RE:4 Impressions Thread

I'm not a big RE4 fan in general, because RE4 basically zapped away a lot of the reasons I like RE to begin with. But all the same, I feel like this remake was splendidly done.

Sure, it had a degree of omitted content like the other remakes, but this was way more enjoyable than 2 and 3.

My opinion of 2 has become a bit more lukewarm than it had been. I guess my disappointment really lay with the game not being a 'proper remake' like the first remake in 2002 is. As in, you know? How things were mostly the same as the original, but with great new additions. I think a lot of people preferred the thought of that as opposed to the plot being reimagined.

Can't say I came off satisfied with RE4R, it was a huge disappointment especially considering it was the exact same team that did RE2R, which was a near masterpiece.

-Way too faithful to the original source material, which was never that good outside of revolutionary action gameplay...in 2005
-Boss battles sucked
-Shooting gallery gave random rewards which put a curb on planned builds
-Bad music
-Game was poorly coded and ran into several performance hits on PC
-They really screwed up Ada's voice
-Pay to Win features.

The only positives in this were the crafting system, the expanded castle scenarios, the visuals were great, and some of the puzzles were challenging. Other than that I consider this an overall negative experience.

What was your opinion of the original RE4? Because RE4Remake is 1:1 remake of RE4 with some control refinements, and "poorly" coded? Do you understand why they used the engine? RE4R is basically using the SAME engine as RE2 Remake. Every game released at that point, is using the RE Engine.

It's your opinion, but it's a poor opinion. RE2 Remake was so good that even DMC5 uses it.

*facepalm*

What is this post?

What was your opinion of the original RE4?
Back in 2005 it was a massive gameplay heroin injection aka extremely fun to play but with massive long term negative consequences on what it did to both the series and the industry (QTE banal action gameplay and stupid stories).

RE4 Remake removed most of this stuff. They refined the ashley segment, even.

RE4 was a great game in my opinion, that I bought the remaster... again. There will never be a game that has the feel of the controls.

If you disagree with this, then you will disagree with 90% of the Resident Evil playerbase. RE4 Remake itself sold and this was recently announced - RE4 Remake sold over 9 Million copies.

Works for me! I have never had a problem "going against the grain" on popular opinions and adding an alternative insight on things. It's good for debate shaping perspectives to a degree.

As I've stated, authentic Biohazard died in 1996 when Iwao left Capcom and completely died in 2006 when Mikami left. Everything after that has been varying degrees of hit or miss. In my view Revelations 2 and RE2R were the only "hits" during this time period. RE8 was a decent action game but a far cry from what I want in a Biohazard game.

I have had more enjoyment with recent Indie survival horror games than I did with RE4R.
