OT OT Game Discussion

Well, ever since the PS5 came out, I have only bought like one or two games in the last few years. I was broke a while back and resorted to selling my old PS2 horror games. But these days, a lot of people purchase games through Steam or they use emulators.

I kind of regret doing that. They cost a lot on eBay to get again, and that's also applied for used copies. But there was a lot of games I hardly attempted, as they were so difficult in my view, or just outright on the boring side. 🫨

Generally, I do favour the old generation because games were just more fun, and the storylines were good. In fact, the original RE2 was the game that made me fall in love with the survival horror genre. Then RE4 changed that, even if RE4 is still a great game, even now. 😅

Have updated the forums to remove the OT section as it was largely forgotten and to consolidate it into a couple of threads. OT Discussion and OT Game Discussion.

Thinking about going through Parasite Eve again. I put that game second only to Biohazard, as it combines survival horror with JRPG elements.

The sequel is a tragic story, could have been one of the greatest games ever but Squaresoft cut the budget, cut the development team in half, and told the developers to distance themselves from the source material based off of Sena's book (Sena himself was so outraged that he had a falling out with Squaresoft when the game was released).

People can forget the not-to-distant past quite easily but looking back now, the way businesses ran things back in the 90's, 00's and even the 10's was actually atrocious. Things only started getting a little better recently and business leaders are loosening up a little bit, especially since Covid 19.

Absolutely one of my favorite games of all time, from the aesthetic style to the timeless soundtrack. I remember back in 2002 after Rebirth campaigning for it to be remade. Remaking games became a kind of polarizing word then and still is, but I stand my ground Parasite Eve was the one that got away and could benefit from a tech increase like no other (given the feel is retained). That entire quarter of Square releases is truly unforgettable, great period of life to be a gamer.

Got through SH:2, solid remake overall. Definitely faithful which I appreciate, with some new material albeit not too much. Artistically, musically and most of all atmospherically still on point, which is most important. Definitely gave me goosebumps at times, only a few games ever had, so that atmosphere is still painfully stressful (something the non Team Silent games did NOT do). Graphically it was either extremely pretty or rough around the edges, kind of an odd bag. Even at it's best though, the optimization is abysmal. Gameplay was also the most interesting part, how they'd tackle it. Honestly, it feels bare bones and greasey, in a solid way. It feels more like it's original era, for better or worse, up to the players; I liked it. Overall solid.

I still have to get to Silent Hill 2 remake. Im actually at an advantage because I never finished the original and lost interest early on, same with Dead Space. Dead Space remake was a real treat for someone who never got into the original and everything felt "fresh" (for lack of a better term) despite some obvious dated gameplay features.

I loved Silent Hill 1 but for some reason Silent Hill 2 did not reach me, but something tells me this remake will rectify that and I will enjoy it adequately like I did Dead Space remake.

Factoring in my delay playing SH2R, 2025 may not be as boring as we thought because Obsidian is also releasing two new games (Avowed and The Outer Worlds 2), which should keep me engaged for a good chunk of the year.

I played it and went through it once on PS5 it was fun and close to what I rememeber. You're right it lacked some polish but its true to form which I liked

Playing Silent Hill 2 remake. So far so good, pretty run of the mill survival horror so far, no particular complaints or special praises, but it is keeping me engaged and focused, just made it to the Wood Side apartments and I like the layout!

Gotta say after playing Dino Crisis and remembering how particularly HARD that game is for me (not so much the combat, I have always been pretty good at combat in games) and getting lost and trying to figure out what area I need to be in and what items I need to utilize, this is sort of a relief because I seem to have a handle on the exploration and the puzzles so far. It may get harder and may not, but I'm glad this game seems more balanced and approachable.

Just as I predicted it reminds me of Dead Space remake. Solid experience and modernized graphics but some of the themes/puzzles/encounters definitely feel like something from 2+ decades ago.

Does anybody here like the WWE games by 2K?

They've all been crap in my opinion, since 2013. I used to enjoy them when THQ had the license. They haven't impressed me since about a decade ago. Data destroying bugs are always a big problem, coupled with a lot of related glitches, and so on. I think the 2020 game was totally broken, resulting in a high demand for refunds. 😣

The actual 2025 Royal Rumble starts in about half an hour, over on Netflix. 🤼‍♂️ 🤼‍♀️

Silent Hill 2 Remake cont...

Loving it so far, just entered Heaven's Night with Maria (obviously a stripper herself). The tension and atmosphere is certainly there and the puzzles are fairly challenging, but not overtly. Can someone clarify if they were tougher in OG SH2? I have yet to get stumped but I always got stumped at one or two sections in these old survival horror games so maybe they've streamlined the experience a bit (playing on Standard Combat + puzzles)?

I gotta say I really do not like UE5. I thought UE4 was pretty bad but this REALLY takes the cake. I have to turn the settings all the way down and turn on DLSS because I can absolutely NOT play a game with <60 frames per second and I don't care kind of game it is! Whether it's a massive Esports game or an atmospheric survival horror game I need a smooth experience. UE5 is gonna be a scourge on humanity for sure!
Not gonna let this affect my opinion on the game itself though, and will thank the divine that RE will not be using UE5!

Back to playing, 'tis a great game so far. See what's in store for Fat Eddie, Angela, and my new girlfriend Maria. I've heard some reports that the cheesier dialogue in the OG was actually better because it made the experience feel more "dreamlike". Not sure I could agree with that and it sounds like just nostalgia warping people's minds. RE1 was fantastic in SPITE of bad dialogue, not because of it.

Yeah the performance was my biggest gripe, it added to what is quickly becoming a Bloober feel sadly, not to take away with the good they've done. Puzzle wise it's in line, I'd up the difficulty on those when you can.

I generally like the storylines in all the Silent Hill games. The issue is the gameplay.

In Homecoming, I never found much ammo, so I was reduced to using an axe or a pipe to smack loads of smog spewing monsters. The hotel section was so irritating. But I was always getting creamed by that giant doll. I thought that for a game with more of a focus on combat, the combat just sucked.

I gave up. I did play through Downpour, and I generally liked that one more than the previous game. But compared to ths first four games, or even Origins, it was somewhat weak in terms of the combat. There was only one boss fight in the prison, and there was some bugs in the game. When you opened a door, it felt slow, with poor textures in some areas.

I tried all of this (ignore the ad though) and scraped up a few frames. Boy I haven't had to worry about this stuff in ages! Maybe once the Nvidia 50** series drops the 4080 will drop in price and will be worth looking into. Gosh this is bad.

The Hospital is fantastic! Best part of the game so far, the atmosphere really shines here and feels more 3 dimensional in contrast to the sort of drab apartments. This just keeps getting better and better! Every note/letter is interesting and keeps me engaged and wanting to know more.

Unfortunately, I cannot say the same with Biohazard 4 remake, a game I did not really like but only finished just to get it over with and none of the lore in that game interested me in the slightest. Yikes what is happening to me? XD
