Thoughts on the lone figure?

- Ethan returns?
- Placeholder model?
- Vision?

Would love to hear everyone's thoughts. I personally feel like this series has a problem offing characters permanently, so would rather him not. It also takes away from the weight of what happened.

Using his model as a placeholder is admittedly odd though, out of all people.

To understand that Ethan is walking down the road, we need to hack the game and see what we can't see in the game itself. I think it makes sense to agree that it is very strange to treat this as a storytelling.

However, I can't deny that the scene clearly shows the car stopping in front of this person. We also know that Ethan is a character without a face, so the authors use different and even creative methods to avoid showing Ethan.

Does that mean Ethan could have survived? I think so. He could have survived. The developers could have added this moment as a touch of hope.

But that doesn't mean Ethan's story wasn't ended. It was ended. Ethan's journey had come to an end, whether he survived or not.

If people also think that the next game will definitely be a game about Rosemary, then I will remind you of the plot twist about the BSAA.

I didn't notice that people talked about it often, but Chris uses a bomb called N2. This is the equivalent explosive weapon that was used in Raccoon City, as they are both a direct reference to Evangelion.

I was going to write a reply but this honestly sums up what I would've been writing, so thanks for that. You did the work for me.

Ethan being alive and assumedly regenerated after an extremely dark journey for him and the player was the way to go in my eyes after an extremely dark couple of games. His story was way more tragic and painful than what I feel ANY other main RE protagonists in the franchise have been through.

With that in mind, I think without this ending, it would've felt too much like despair-porn with everything that has happened to Ethan and his family thus far. It was the ending I didn't know I needed, and its subtly in its execution serves it well without being "too" hopeful since the player currently really doesn't know, but heavily implied.

This ending was 100% well played and deserved on Capcom's part if so, and I hope that's the case. Character arcs don't often close in this series, but a closure doesn't have to be through death or martyrdom, either. I'm honestly tired of that troupe, in both real life and in fiction. There has to be a balance.

"Retirement" in any way for these characters is 100% acceptable to me, and the villians always being done in by the player in these games holds their own tragedy and weight as their ill-intentions are what really brings it upon themselves as "evil-doers" or more morally-challenged characters. I believe "true" intentions from characters, like what Ethan had, should be better off rewarded in a narrative. Of course, characters on both "sides" can be complex, flawed and make mistakes, but love can still prevail in the end, despite bumps in the road, and Ethan is fundamentally a loving character. He doesn't do anything out of revenge or feeling the need like HE has to be the one to save the world like the rest of the RE cast. He just wants to help his family.

Unless it's Game of Thrones, our protagonists can live for as long as they need to for all I care. The story just needs to stay interesting and well-written as possible.

Ethan sacrificed everything, but he was still rewarded with life in the end, coming back full circle with his reunion with Rose, thus ending the father's story. I don't think his ability to live on takes away from any of that. Amazing.

I think he could have returned, but as with other horror characters who return to loved ones, he could be evil for some reason. Miranda's doing, no doubt..

It could be Ethan, but if not and he's really dead, then good, because this and the previous game put him through all kinds of pain and suffering. I say put the poor man out of his misery.

It kind of seems like they're going to make this like The New Mutants, with how Rosemary, Jill, and others, have problems coping with their viral induced abilities. That's fine and all, but they cannot overdo it with the comic book appeal, or the survival horror aspects will diminish even more. I mean, RE8 was essentially another action horror game. It kind of annoyed some fans who felt it was jumping the shark considerably.

That ending might imply Rosemary has some unusual powers related to mold and she can briefly see or communicate with people whose conciousness got assimilated by the mold as even Ethan got to talk to Jack in that "mold realm", and even Eveline sort of manifested to Ethan in this dream like state. With regards to Village´s ending, there is a chance Ethan´s daughter could in fact now have some of the e-series bow powers but also a few from the megamycete / miranda? Not sure but that could be the case.

So maybe if she focus her mind, Rosemary can talk to the deceased that got assimilated to that "special realm", somehow it makes me think of the Stranger Things show where we have an upside down dimension, but in the case of RE 7/8 this place looks a lot like an "afterlife" location. Miranda believed that a ritual would bring her daughter back to life, but now that the megamycete is dead maybe there is still other viable ways to use anything (or anyone) that´s still carring the mold (is seems Mia is the less affected but Zoe on the other hand might still be under quarantine due to infection).

Although its up for grabs what exactly is the megamycete, some theorized its alien but i´d love for them to explain it being some sort of dimensional rift anomaly caused by experiments from scientists (i don´t know if they would go that far to explain it, but i thought of something along the lines of Cloverfield Paradox storyline).

Also going forward i´d really like for some sort of conflict between Sherry and Rosemary, or Natalia and Rosemary since there are lots of "mutated" survivors around that could be properly explored for the next games (people like Manuela, Zoe, Sherry, Rosemary, Natalia Korda).

I´m also curious to see that the company who developed Eveline was led by Brandon Bailey, maybe the next titles are going to explore this guy as a new threat?

After some discoveries and good discussions, it seems to me that HCF technical assistance and the impact of the virus on the fungus can still be developed in the future.

First, the report from the game says that Eveline's fungus differs from Miranda's by 0.05 percent. This data may be much more significant than it seems, since the scientific community even assumes that the DNA of humans and chimps is 99 percent identical.

Secondly, the fungi of Miranda and Eveline are really different. The report suggests that the changes may have been made intentionally, and we know that Eveline has better control of the fungus than Miranda. Moreover, Eveline's fungus has an exponential form of infection and can spread from body contact, bites, wounds, and so on, when all the villagers were infected with the parasite in the first place, so they turned into Lycans either over time, or from the imbalance of cell division due to injuries.

In other words, this whole "virus-powered" comment from Capcom may still be the case and hasn't been rewritten.

Of course, we still have more questions than that. For example, we do not fully understand the role of the BSAA in these events. They may have tried to jump on the Eveline project, tried to intercept Eveline, watched Miranda, and used illegal weapons. It's possible that they even knew the whole truth about Ethan and were watching him because they were counting on the birth of a new Eveline.

Since when does Capcom ever continue storylines with infected characters? Yeah. This one is a rare exception, because it is about the Winters family. But besides that, Capcom normally sets up things that they never mention again. That's kind of worrying. I know people here are quite invested in the mythology, but maybe Capcom doesn't focus on that like they should be.

Like, we know that Jill is infected. Right? If any character should be considered important and come back one day, it's her.
