General What RE is everyone playing until RE9?

So weird and slippery to control. Gross. The characters are all self-serious and covered in dirt.
WHAT. It’s harder than the tank controls on 4? Between the three of them, 6 is like the easiest to move around on.
It's weird I recall not really liking it much but not why, not sure I will stick it out for long.

Yea you’re definitely turning the game off after chapter 1. They get even more grimy as the campaign progresses 😹

It's hard to describe but the tank controls are chunky and nice. The hits are responsive and the enemies react in a predictable way, which makes the combat loop work perfectly. But here the lame zombies are spongy and the melee counters suck. The knife being a separate item you need to equip is also very stupid.

Also just to add to it, the game had a premium PC release and modern controls… but still plays horribly on KBM.

I guess it's just that nebulous idea of "gamefeel" where things are off to me, like why are herbs changed, why do the guns feel weak, etc. Back in the day I guess it was just fun to team up and roll around on the floor doing slide moves, but it's obvious why this ended the action era. The outbreak chaos might have been good for the RE2-3 remakes but somehow that was smaller scale.

Gotta be honest, I hate the melee system in RE6 too. I often see it get praised but I felt like they took what was perfected in RE5 and just downgraded it. I also hate the stamina system, not sure who's idea it was to add that but the game as a whole doesn't feel very good in comparison to how tight RE4/RE5 play.

I don’t want to make any assumptions, but if you believe that I don’t think you’re paying that much attention to their behavior or the controls.

As long as you target their extremities/head, you will get the reaction you are looking for. Same thing for 4 & 5. FYI im not gonna go “well actually” everytime you pick at 6, despite how much I want to, So feel free to hack at the game guys 😁

That’s totally fair and for its time the engine was something different and pretty advanced. I remember praising that about the game, one of the few things I liked at the time. I think now however RE Engine games have made us spoiled, so it just didn’t age as well. I remember even then thinking it would have fit a Dino Crisis reboot better than Bio, but I digress.

My comment wasn’t @ you. I’ve never really played on the PC, or anything past 6, so I wouldn’t know how well MT would hold up against the current engine. But based off of what I’ve seen of 9—Probably blows it out of the water lol.

You mind elaborating? I’m not going to form a counter-argument or anything. I just want to know why, since I thought that anyone that likes the combat of 4 would surely like 6’s.

I got to the underground tomb thing, and I think it suffers from what I call the "Revelations Effect" where it's strangely weightless and shiny. They throw in some low effort attempts and sticking to the "key item x" and "puzzle y" but it's still walking down a straight line corridor mostly. And they forget to do any world building to explain this location or why I might care. I might keep going through but I might also put on RE7 lol.

I honestly just prefer the uniqueness of each character in 5 over 6 (talking about Mercenaries). Everyone has a unique animation for every melee attack in 5. I know characters still have some unique animations in 6 but it felt toned down in comparison. I remember RE6's melee on the ground to be a universal gun slam for example if you have a machine gun equipped while in RE5 everyone's is unique to their character.

Is it possible to get to point in CV where you must restart. I think I locked myself out of the biology lab, again.

Even though I got the skull portrait It’s hard to tell if the game is telling me ‘you don’t have to be there anymore’, or if I’m just looking in the wrong spots for the bug key.

Doesn't the portrait have the lab code on it? It's been a while. As I remember it the game only forces you to restart if you didn't hoard exploding bows before a certain point.

I restarted the RE1 remake as a change of pace. Once I knew this all well enough to do Chris and get the infinite launcher but it's been... a long time. In fact I'm not sure I ever played it in the HD version despite having it a while.

I figured it out eventually, but thanks anyway. I think if I ran out of exploding arrows, it would have been a pain on the arctic base since I think I can only cut down that spider web with that alone.

You didn’t finish Leon’s campaign? 🥹

Finally finished Code V. Anyone find it fun on their first playthrough?

Felt like I was playing fetch constantly, and I never felt like I was in a state of ‘survival’ since there was so much health and ammo. Idk, it’s more recent than it’s predecessors but it feels older in comparison.

It's always been like that, somehow feels different that RE3 despite being intended as the real third game. Too much ammo was never a thing I remember though, iirc the knife was often necessary and the ammo count for beating the airplane boss was really strict.

I had like +250 rounds for the handgun at some point, and the game kept gift wrapping me trash ass arrows so there was no need for a knife. You gotta replay CV, you’d see exactly what I’m saying.

Yeah the plane boss wasn’t a joke. Probably my hardest fight in the game.

I was armed to the teeth and I still got caught up somehow…is the tyrant scripted to be invulnerable to firearms on that part or something?

*CodeVeronica
1000 rounds for the handguns, 93 grenade launcher rounds for the GL, 55 green herbs.

Zero(Hard Mode):
595 handgun bullets
36 grenade rounds
21 green herbs

I didn’t list everything obviously but the amount of resources for the pistol pretty much sets the tone for everything else.
