General What RE is everyone playing until RE9?

Cindy B

Playing on OBSRV
I was thinking of doing a play through the entire series leading up to RE9! I'm not sure if I'm going to play the side series like Gaiden, Survivor and some of the slop yet but definitely all of the main games. I will probably update this thread as I get through them. It's been years since l've played some of these games so im pretty excited for this. Last time I did a big marathon like this was before RE:2.

What is everyone else's plans? Any marathons?

My goal is to obtain every Platinum/100% for every RE game in the series that has trophies (not including separate trophy lists for the same game) on PlayStation. Currently I have Darkside Chronicles, Revelations, Revelations 2, Village, and RE4 Remake left. Working on completing all of these before RE9 releases and I've been slowly working my way through Darkside again recently. Unfortunately its quite a grind, 4 playthroughs and you need to S Rank every chapter on both hard and very hard so it's been testing my patience quite a bit.

By February, I plan to (if I get around to it) (re)play the series in more or less the following order, leading up to Requiem...

Zero
1 Remake
2 Remake
3 Remake
Outbreak File 1 & 2 (online)
4 Remake
7
8

Likely skipping CVX because I play on Steam and never bothered with emulation for a game before - aside for Outbreak.

Skipping 5 and 6 because they're still trash wannabe Resident Evil installments and I'm still hoping for a complete or heavy retcon for their inevitable remakes. I will continue to skip them for repeat series playthroughs, pretending they do not exist, until the lore and gameplay experience is eventually "fixed." As they are currently, these are not immersive survival horror games with respectable story direction and characterization.

Skipping Revelations 1 and 2 for the same reason above I'm skipping 5 and 6. Revelations is the afterbirth of 5 and 6, coming out of the same terrible era for Resident Evil. It's hopeful to see that Capcom appears to be shelving the Revelations games completely and focusing on Outbreak for moving the series forward - the latter being the actual worthy Resident Evil spinoff with gameplay and lore that meets the standards of the earlier titles.

Wasn't fond of the writing for the story of 8, but I would consider some of the narrative redeemable.

Here's hoping 9 recaptures the quality of the best remakes thus far and the incredible 7 - far exceeding it.

Time will tell!

Since I finished Separate Ways I've been revisiting the whole series focussing on getting all the unlockables (weapons, infinite ammo, etc.) which I had never paid much attention to in the past. Then doing some fun playthroughs with what I unlocked.
Some of the recent highlights have been getting S+ ranks for both Leon and Claire in RE2R to unlock the Infinite Rocket Launcher and Mini Gun, S ranking RE3R in Inferno mode with the Infinite Rocket Launcher, beating Madhouse mode in RE7 to unlock infinite ammo then finishing the game in under 4 hours with infinite ammo on the Magnum to unlock the Circular Saw and X-Ray glasses.

But the hardest to obtain weapon which I recently got was on a revisit to Revelations Raid mode. I had previously only played the PS3 version and wanted to try the Ghost Ship Chaos which they added in the PS4 version. Once I finally got to the point where I could do Ghost Ship Chaos runs, I started grinding for a Lv 50, blue tagged, max slot Serpent Magnum. After 90 hours of Ghost Ship Chaos runs it finally dropped. Here is the beast fully kitted out (check out the Firepower stat!):

Trying to complete the original titles, 0 to 6, on maximum difficulty. I have never played the titles that manipulate the camera, so I figured I’d start with them first so that’s been kind of tough since the option of bull-rushing the enemies isn’t viable in those like it is in 6.

At the same I’m weighing them all against each other. Resi ‘96 was great and it instantly occurred to me why oldheads are so repulsed by 6 lol.

I've mainly been replaying bio5 and bio'02 when I have the time, but I'll probably also get back around to replaying more soon.

I'm not playing any of the games. But since I been trying out gyms with free guess passes in my general area, I have been listening to the in-game soundtrack to Resident Evil 5 on my iPod while working out. I'm having a great time.

However, lately, some guy named Charlie White from YouTube has been marathoning the entire Resident Evil series lately. Tonight, he played up until before the Tyrant before the airport in CODE: Veronica X. You can check out his live gameplays here: https://www.youtube.com/@penguinz0/streams

Oh I'm not getting amped up for it by doing any kind of marathon, they haven't earned that yet. RE4 remake might be in the gaming rota though.

I’ve finally made it to RE3 ‘99. Search results say that Raccoon City is based on Missouri…but it really looks like New York on roids to me with all the infinite alleys.

Racoon City in 2 and 3 always just looked like the back streets of Japan to me. I feel like they didn't have much need to go to the US in those days for research. Anyway, RE4 OG has entered my rotation, it's got the sauce.

If the novels are canon, according to the 4th novel "Underworld" during the prologue, Raccoon City is in Pennsylvania. Remember, Raccoon City does have mountains.

Yeah, it’s this midwestern big city that’s apparently situated up high encircled by mountains and forests. I can’t recall a real life equivalent.

So the team behind it just drew it up their own native locales, throwed in whatever they thought the US was, and combined everything. Sounds about right. Still looks cool

Actually being from the Boston area, I always thought Raccoon City looked the most like Boston in terms of all the alleys and cramped streets. Especially the North End area.
Well I was think of the smaller areas Jill has to navigate, those big streets are too easy to avoid a zombie in LOL
