I think RE:2 is as close to as good as it gets for a modern remake, while RE:make is actual perfection. With that said I prefer the original RE2 to RE:2. The ambience, music, color palette, scenario structure, enemy variety and ironically lack of detail the pixels left up to interpretation just sits perfectly with me. I'd definitely play both and decide, though admittedly RE2 is a product of its era.
RE3 is not as good as RE2, even if RE2 did change so much as well. But I think there's plot aspects they needed to retain, but Capcom failed to do so.
As an example, I always considered Barry flying in to save Jill as canon. He does this to redeem himself. Then after these remakes came out, I saw so much being altered. No Barry ending. Brad isn't killed by Nemesis any longer, and there was a lot else they changed. A lot.
But RE9 revealed that the remakes are seemingly canon now. So, like. Whether I disagree or not with this move, Capcom has made their decision to personally select what they believe is canon.

REmake 2 + Soundtrack Swap DLC is perfection. The classic games had memorable music playing in each area, where as the modern games have ambience with a hint of music here or there. So playing the remake with the classic music naturally provides a more classic experience.

I would spend hours on the original RE 2 when I was in my early 20s. I really love the remake it captures the whole vibe of the original, with newer originality.
I don't really like it, personally. I see the remakes as disappointing. I do think if you overlook all of that, then okay. It's not a bad game in itself.
The producers say they aren't trying to replace the originals, but there are plot aspects in the remakes that greatly differ from the original versions. So that's a weird way to put it across.

Same for me, I am a huge fan of the original and the remake was a fantastic modern realisation.
Give it a rest @Caffeine Addict you have told us enough times how much you don't like the RE Engine games. You should try to enjoy the series again, look for things you actually like instead of endlessly posting negative comments.
