I don't know about you guys, but this landed for me. I'm just going to shoot-off some of my initial thoughts.

Right-off the bat, even though it was literally the first reveal of the show, I caught on that it was (Code) Veronica pretty quick. Maybe I've just gotten used to how the RE Engine looks by now.

Considering how different this intro was when compared to the original - it was still narratively recognizable. I think that says a lot about how good the direction of this story retelling is actually going to be.

For one, I previously called it that HUNK would be inserted into this remake as a retcon. I don't think I said it on Biohaze, but I did elsewhere.

HUNK having trained on Rockfort Island, and now having a bigger role in this remake - only makes sense, and it seems like the PERFECT example of how you retcon a game series like this... for the better!

The fact that "HUNK" was in Requiem recently, too - just made me think of that as a possibility even more. And it clearly was.

A thing to praise Capcom on is... for as how out-of-order they've been handling all these remakes and sequels when it comes to chronological storytelling, they've still been weaving these release-to-release narratives by theme pretty well.

Fans who just completed Requiem, will now get to see the backstory on both HUNK and Zeno (Wesker) in Veronica.

Using the 'V' (aka 5) in Veronica to indicate that this is the game to release after RE:4 as not Leon's but Claire's story... is clever, as it is extra ironic - considering the original CV was supposed to be RE3!

Claire's model got an upgrade, and they pulled it off. She wasn't made to look too different from her RE2:R version, which - even though I didn't mind much how she looked then - she was one of those RE Engine characters that could've benefited from an upgrade such as this. She was a little odd looking at times in RE2:R. Overall, this new version of Claire I am extremely satisfied with.

And the darker, more gritter horror aspect that was rumored for this remake shines through a bit in this reveal, too. The original CV was pretty horror-centric at times, but I can see glimpses of it being even more so here.

The boulder comment from the old woman was funny, even though I hate RE5. She was a little awkward (voice acting maybe?), but the overall tone and handling of the trailer was just too perfect for me to care about that too much.

From the looks of the trailer, a couple locations were instantly recognizable, which was great to see. The mansion-esque area on Rockfort Island from the original, as well as that one iconic pain-in-the-ass room in the prison, with the two floors (if I'm remembering correctly).

Capcom is doing a damn good job, I think - and personally, I'm almost positive this'll land better than Requiem with me, which I felt dropped off kinda hard after Grace's half of the game, even though I enjoyed the journey of Requiem overall.

Veronica could very well be the best remake since REmake, if my gut is anything to go by.

And as far as that title goes... Veronica... I dig it, I think. It'll take some getting used to.

I'm not sure if removing the "Code" aspect of the title has much of an impact on the previous lore (maybe somebody else knows better than I do on that, since it's been a while since I played the original) but this remake is only looking like a positive to me!

If Zero remake receives the same quality as this - especially with co-op - I think us RE fans are going to be eating well for a while!

Lastly, the fact that this didn't have an EXACT release date, despite the rumors the development cycle for this particular title has been going smoothly, is a bit confusing.

That's all I can think of for now. Pumped!

Edit: Apparently the second image is official, and shows off her entire outfit.

I don't think it's bad. Her new outfit gives off a darker, more tactical tone than how we remember it. Character model herself looks good.

Edit 2: That third image looks BAD-FUCKING-ASS. Wow. Something very old-school RE-quality about it. We're so back.

So... the end of RE3R was Chris in this apartment? Though I wonder if this latest forced walking section replaces the epic T2 inspired assault on Umbrella Europe from the original...

It's being developed by Capcom rather than outsourced to a smaller and capable studio so that means they will spend way too much money on flashy and silly features (Old lady welcoming Claire at the apartment Chris is staying at in Paris? Gimme a break).

Can't be thrilled by this in any substantial way so will probably catch it on a sale in 2028.

Sorry but I don't like my video games the way I like my military hardware (flashy, up to date, and stupidly effective), I prefer a little jank and Capcom plays it waaay too safe.

What kind of take even is this.

I like what they've shown so far. Claire looks fantastic and the small glimpses of the Rockfort locations also look excellent. CV was always THE RE game that needed a remake the most so I'm very curious how they're going to handle it. The original has such potential to be a great RE (and such an amazing soundtrack) but is held back by the tedious backtracking (more so than other RE games) and the awful potential to softlock your game if you're not well equipped for the tyrant plane fight. The story also has some excellent moments that are also brought down due to things like Steve being goofy and unlikable. I won't mind if they take liberties and change things up more so than other remakes but hopefully they won't cut things like enemies or iconic locations like RE3 did.

All facts. Now that's a good response.

I was worried about this too but in this zoomed in screenshot you can see the Umbrella Paris building with the Umbrella logo in the top middle. There was a leak floating around a while ago that the intro would be playable instead of a cutscene so I think Hunk will take us to that building and there will be a playable section inspired by the original cutscene.

Interesting... but if she gets caught by HUNK (for some reason) I can't figure out the placement of that set piece.
She gets caught by Hunk when she opens the door in the trailer, I'm guessing he takes her to the Umbrella building which you can see at the beginning of the trailer. Also in the original game there is a file called Hunk's Report where he reports what he has been doing related to the Island, so he was there in the original.

Yeah but what I mean is she already got caught, so that whole part with the helicopter and the exploding barrels is redundant. I mean you could work around that but it would mean getting caught a second time before being shipped to the island.

It's called "pointless filler" and Big Video Game is notorious for it.

Lets see how the gameplay holds up. If it's a least a fun homage to the original then it'll definitely be worth the price on a discount sale like Requiem. :)

Yeah I understand, I was worried she got captured by Hunk and then wakes up on Rockfort Island, but I don't think that's the case now, they are just expanding the back story. All we know so far is she got grabbed by Hunk before going to the Umbrella building, but could still end up there for the events in the original cutscene.

The first remake from 2002 remains unbeatable.

We have definitely come a long way since Shinji Mikami was at the helm.

Nowadays, the dude is sadly viewed upon as being something of a "country cousin" for the survival horror genre. LOL. 🤔

But his legacy is still of importance. At least, IMO. 🧟‍♂️

Not really on topic, but I agree! It just hasn't been the same without him. The series went from relative creative freedom to corporate controlled algorithms starting with 5 and that's been the trajectory aside from a few surprise hits.

Ummmmm..... Where did you get this? This is the same team that did the RE2 and RE4 remakes. Same exact. More than that, this is going to use the RE Engine.

I think he's talking about the original story in Code Veronica, is what I got from that post. I think RE Veronica is going to expand Code Veronica, in ways that other remakes hasn't done. As much as I like RE Code Veronica (I played the Dreamcast version briefly, and the PS2 port a.k.a. "X."), I feel like I missed a large portion of the game when playing it. You are entirely left to notes to get backstories.
