Other Resident Evil (Movie) Teaser

First details on Zach Cregger's ‘RESIDENT EVIL’:

• Takes place in Raccoon City during the events of the ‘Resident Evil 2’ game

• Filmed to be from POV of a normal guy including - first-person shooter action + wide lens shots over his shoulder

• Many easter eggs for the games including weapon progression & creature mechanics

As a "Resident Evil" movie... this looks like absolute shit.

The creature coming out of that door shares NO resemblance with a bioweapon - old or new. Looks like something out of a supernatural horror. On my first watch, THAT was the moment when I emotionally checked out of this as an RE fan. That was enough for me.

And looking back at the trailer again, halfway through - it looks like the protag is using a smartphone... in what we thought was 1998.

Take the "Resident Evil" title away, and it looks like it could be a well-done and weird horror movie, but that title is what ruins it for me. Doesn't even look like it could replicate or co-exist with the same universe as the games... which has been the problem with these big-budget "adaptations".

So, this ain't it, chief.

Fucking disappointment, considering all the hype and hopefulness that Zach as Director knew what he was doing for fans of the games.

Only a fucking tourist would spin this specific teaser as something that deserves the "Resident Evil" name. I wouldn't care if this movie were its own thing, without that title - because Resident Evil has become disjointed as an IP with an identity crisis over the years enough as it is. This new film doesn't help.

I just saw the trailer on IMDb and I was going to make this topic, but you guys beat me to it.

As far as what I've seen, it does look kind of cheap looking. It looks like it's going to have characters no one has seen nor even would give a damn about. This is one time I may sit out from the theater when it comes to Resident Evil movies. I saw all the Mila movies and Welcome To Raccoon City when they came out in the theaters, but this one doesn't appeal to me so far. Maybe as we get closer to September, there could be some kind of video material that could change my mind, but until then so far, not excited. If anything I'm disappointed because I was looking forward to another Resident Evil movie. I may rent it or buy it from the Apple TV app from my 4K TV when it releases.

I hope something good comes out of it by the time we get to release, because its release is in September, which is my birth month. I'll be 44 on the 4th.

Looks nothing like Resident Evil to be honest and the director saying it could take place during the events of RE2 is bullshit since there's snow on the ground. It looks more like Zach Cregger wanted to make his own zombie movie and slapped the IP name on it for more exposure.

I'm seeing a LOT of arguing on social media from both sides and I will say, the people bitching about the people bitching are just as bad if not worse.

This might be a decent film (I liked Weapons and Barbarian was OK) but I don't think it's going to be a good RE film. I'm not sure why it's so fucking hard for them to adapt the first game as one film. If I had the budget and the license, I'd straight up make a body cam horror film with police in a isolated building (think [REC] or Quarantine) with zombies and other monsters. Simple, done. Shouldn't be this hard.

Not clicking for me, and from what I’ve read about the director or whatever, he comes off as insanely pretentious when talking about the movie’s relation to the games. Don’t nobody gaf about your self-insert dude.

I’m supposed to be impressed because you put in a green herb cameo, wow.

Yeah but after nearly 25 years of abysmal garbage that was also called "Resident Evil" for no reason I think this is the right direction. I don't want to clap like a seal over Lickers and RPD logos, I just want a good movie. Cregger doesn't seem like a hack from his other films so I can give it a pass for now.

It looks like a solid horror movie on its own, but I didn't see much of any Biohazard in it. The thing that worries me a bit is that's the teaser, that is the 60sec we have to sell us on a first impression and it lacked any RE authenticity. I'll give it a whirl regardless, maybe it subtly connects and there's much more to it in the main film. Again usually you want to convey what it is in a teaser and perhaps it did, we'll see.

[REC] was so incredibly underrated. Felt like watching a found footage of an Outbreak scenario or something.

I don’t know about that…the soundbites I’m catching from his interviews is suspect. Taking inspiration from re4 to create a movie about re2, seems kind of backwards.

There were comments under the teaser too that said something about novistadors, but I didn’t pay it any mind at the time.

He can talk bs all he likes, I'm only interested in the final product. Movie directors and writers have egos and they often sound like that. People are just insane going on and on about it for some reason, like the current social media circus has given everyone brain rot. Remember when Resident Evil: Apocalypse made the Nemesis into a guy called "Matt"? Remember all the Netflix crap? But sure *now* this is the worst thing of all time, he didn't even read the Outbreak Wiki to see the nuke was changed to a Thermobaric Missile, what an idiot! Jeez. I mean, this may well suck anyway but it's a strange overreaction.

I mean there’s enough material to work around without the film rejecting having any resemblance with the story and instead replacing that similarity with game mechanics to fish for that moment where dudes watching go "oh it’s just like the games because he has shotgun shells but no shotgun durr"

Like maybe we could see who the other supervisors were, the other evac sites, or maybe what the outbreak looked during the day. Or maybe I am expecting too much
