It took me almost a week and a half to make this video, and honestly, I had a blast making it!
The funny thing is, when I first watched the movie, I walked away thinking, "This doesn't feel like Resident Evil." But looking back, I think my biggest mistake was expecting the movie to take place in the RE2 world and timeline. I went in hoping to see more of THAT specific universe, haha.
But after giving it some thought and looking at the movie from a different perspective, I actually started appreciating what Zach did. He basically mixed elements from multiple Resident Evil games into one single world, including references I didn't even recognize at first!
For example, NYX from Resident Evil Outbreak. When I first saw that monster, I was like, "WHAT THE HELL IS THAT?! WHERE ARE THE ZOMBIES?! WHY IS THERE SNOW?!"
But once I stopped expecting a direct adaptation of RE2 and started looking at it as its own interpretation of the Resident Evil universe, I genuinely enjoyed it a lot more.
And that's actually what inspired me to make this video.
After watching the movie, I had SO MANY ideas about things I would've loved to see. Not necessarily Leon himself, but maybe little details or references that would let us know he was somewhere out there, haha. I wanted to explore those ideas and create something that brought some of my favorite elements of the games together.
So, after a week and a half of work, here it is!
Did you catch all the references I included? Is there anything you would've loved to see that I missed? And what did you think about the direction Zach took with the movie?
