RE9 Requiem Announced!

For my chosen canon RE3 ending I consider Nicholai dead from helicopter related explosion. But at this rate Raccoon City is like Tatooine from Star Wars, every time it appears the series feels like a shrunken universe. Not feeling it so far and I'm not sold on the nuclear aftermath imagery either.

Meanwhile I re-read a few of the old "leaks" and none of them have a clue about going back to the city or this new main character. Same old vague ideas without any real details that line up. People just like claiming things about Leon. One guy claimed it would be another island setting, someone else said Jill would be Leon's co-op partner.

Absolutely agree with the second paragraph, but not the first!

Post apoc in RE sounds like a very intriguing idea -ESPECIALLY with a Raccoon City destruction setting- because it's done so well in other games like Fallout and STALKER. Which is why I'm dying to see gameplay because I would like to know "how they're gonna do it".

Well let me put it another way, I think it looks striking (specifically as a reference the A-bomb aftermath) but I'm not convinced that's the most appropriate thing in a sci-fi-horror B-movie sense. The older games referenced Terminator 2 multiple times after all rather than anything so serious. It will be interesting to see how it pans out in a game sense if they are actually going with a Fallout style world.

I know most people would really say RE 5 single handedly had closed the chapter of the old Umbrella story, but thing is if you read the lore post RE 5 there is still a lot of stuff that was inserted referencing them (as in Wesker, Spencer, Raccoon City, etc) from small easter eggs to more curious stuff like Alyssa Ashcroft reference in RE 7...
and after 5 there has always been another Umbrella that shows up (Neo Umbrella in RE 6, Blue Umbrella in RE 7)
Regardless of what some consider the fact that Raccoon City will be part of RE 9 is actually a good way to finally wrap around the cliffhangers from previous games (above all the Outbreak ending that clearly shows something shady is happening even after the city´s sterilization, we just didn´t know to what extent Capcom would utilize that going forward)

I don't see any connection to RE5 in the teaser video or my previous post tbh.
I never said the RE Requiem teaser was about RE 5, what i meant is that anyone that says Requiem has no ties to previous games other than
1. the game location being Raccoon City and
2. Grace being Alyssa Ashcroft´s daughter,

That affirmation (that Requiem won´t have more links to previous games) clearly is extremely biased, so i take into account that RE 5 even if "apparently" closed the book on Umbrella... the games that came after RE 5 (and RE 7 and Revelations 1 games that were directed by the same guy that is now RE 9 director) are always referecing something connected to previous games (be them outbreak, or any RE mainline or spinoff game)
Let´s take RE 7 for instance the files from that game and other easter eggs and lore references feature elements such as: Alyssa Ashcroft (outbreak), Clive R O Brian (revelations 1), HCF Company (RE Code Veronica), Blue Umbrella (that explicitly mentions BU has hired employees from the original Umbrella Corporation) etc, etc..
So while the initial trailer might not contain anything much tangible to prove there will be more stuff that connect to the games, you cannot rule out that possibility, in fact the whole point they re going to use this destroyed Raccoon City as a playable location, is reason enough to consider there will be "many" connections to previous events/characters that were involved with past games.

Yeah but I was responding to Duty on the trailer and its post nuclear 1940s inspired visuals, so if you're going to quote do it with purpose no big deal. Wild speculation aside I don't believe Capcom will ever tie up loose ends or conclude their expansive plot threads, it will just go on forever for the sake of more sales.

A 1990's post apocalyptic setting would suffice for Biohazard, not 1950's like Fallout.

I just used Fallout and (STALKER!) as example because these games do it so well and it's possible that Biohazard could incorporate survival horror into a similar setting :).

I´d say the big tease of Raccoon City hit hard, and i think not many people expected, considering leaks or not.
While RE 9 wouldn´t be considered same as the proportions of GTA VI come 2026, mostly due to a more restric public playing survival horror games, it will have big sales...
But one way to make more sales is to appease to the long time fans, and when they were developing Requiem, i still tend to think they will tease fans more and more... and there´s no denying they are cooking more remakes down the line
