RE9 RE9 Story DLC Theory

So Zeno is essentially the new Wesker.
I think so yes. I think a lot of my disappointment with the Zeno character was the lack of explanation and no back story. It seemed like wasted potential. But if the plan is to explore his character in future releases then I'm looking forward to it. I always thought it was a mistake that they killed off Wesker.

This is why I say it looks like Capcom has ran out of gas, and just sort of plods the series along, recycling ideas. That this Zeno guy was never cast up in any prior media just makes it kind of obvious that they like to make up things as they advance, so if they kill off a major character, this is their back up (since I take it Alex Wesker was supposed to return, but they chose to cancel that intended title, so they brought Zeno in). Although they have been toying with this idea since UC (the apparent Wesker clone).

Even RE8 was just like RE4. I think that unlike 4, though, 8 has no real replayability. They even hinted that Ada would be involved. While that of course wasn't the case, it just really goes to show I built a strong case of Capcom doing this.

I wouldn't be so bothered about games being remade if Capcom had an ounce of respect for the OG lore. Like surely one cannot build upon stuff and have it be canonical for all of these years, then alter it all NOW. After 30 years. Pfft.

I think Capcom knows that newbies won't be interested in the look or gameplay style of the classic era, so all of these remakes and stuff are kind of like a reboot intended to overwrite much of the lore. But it really is a weird reboot. Because now a 30 years old franchise is following the lore set out in a remake. So for anybody to say this isn't all meant to be one huge retcon, they'd either be lying to themselves, or moving the goal posts as usual...

Here is an interesting interview with the Requiem devs that gives us some hints as to the future related to the Connections and Zeno (Of course they can't outright spoil future plans):

"Unai: ...Speaking of
new characters in this title, Victor Gideon and Zeno also made their debuts. What kind of roles did you intend to give them?

Fukasawa: ...Gideon is a former Umbrella researcher and a follower of Spencer. Leon even refers to him as a "ghost of Umbrella," and he is a character who symbolises the "past" of bio-terrorism. In Leon's campaign, he was written to serve as a focal point for settling the scores of the past Raccoon City Incident.

On the other hand, in stark contrast to Gideon, Zeno is a member of the shadowy organization known as The Connections. We view him as positioned to hint at the "future" direction of bio-terrorism.

Unai: ...I felt like I wanted to see Zeno in action just a little bit more.

Kumazawa: We are incredibly happy to hear that so many players have shared that exact sentiment. For us as well, we consider Zeno to be one of our highly valued characters."

The franchise ain't going anywhere. What worries me is when they introduce new shit that goes nowhere, then gradually, they introduce something else that goes nowhere as well.

All moaning aside, you have to admit it doesn't progress the series in any logical way. It ends up being more of an irritation. Because these plot aspects never reach a conclusion. It happens too often.

Like, instead of having Billy return in a new game, so we can find out if he was guilty or innocent, they just wanna do a remake of RE0. Now even if the game is great and all, it's a remake. It's just a rehash of a game Capcom released 24 years ago, as of my writing this.

Plus, we also had RE0 reimagined, in TUC. This is why I think Capcom should focus more on producing side story media like, say, the Revelations games. But because the remakes set out all the groundwork, they don't have to think as hard. They just tweak the script, etc.

This guy has a point.

Zeno seemed to do the same again, leave a bunch of questions unanswered and they even killed him off before you even really know who he is.

However this thread is about how there are clues pointing to the continuation of his story. Are you saying @Caffeine Addict that Zeno is not coming back?

Since there hasn't been any update on the DLC, I don't know if he can return. It's likely they'll use his virus abilities, like how Wesker used the Las Plagas in RE5. This is so they can build a new direction from there. And also, Hunk probably isn't dead either. I can see Hunk returning more than Zeno.

They kind of need to be careful. I do think it's fine how they are furthering the Umbrella aspects of the plot, after getting off track for years. Umbrella began the series, so it is only right the storyline should revolve around what they did and can do. But they have to basically do things to where it makes sense.

Speaking of Umbrella, what on earth went on with Neo-Umbrella after RE6? They never got mentioned again. I think this is why I point out things like that a lot. They shouldn't like, keep making stuff up, because it brings forth mixed feelings, or confusion. Because you wonder if it will be revisited in a future title.

Come on don't sit on the fence after all that ranting about how Capcom doesn't follow-up on story, is Zeno coming back in the DLC or not?
