RE9 RE9 Story DLC Theory

It does look as if Capcom regrets killing off ol' Albert. But you can also kind of tell they're making up things as they go along nowadays. Like with this guy showing up, plus Raccoon City being intact, and a Mr. X randomly hunting Leon. And rumour has it we may go back to the mansion. But if I wanna see any Wesker again... it's Alex!

Now, I played RE1 enough times to know the house is no more. So I am not surprised by the "nostalgia bait" tag people are giving to these kind of odd ideas. Destroyed should mean destroyed. Maybe the facility in RE0 survived. I haven't got a clue. But they are referring to the Spencer Estate itself. Not the other labs in RE0.

Remember in Outbreak how you saw more than one thing strike the city, instead of a single bomb? They chop and change their mind so many times, it does not surprise me they like to make up reasons to return to a place.

Kind of like when Ash Williams went returning to the cabin where his suffering began in The Evil Dead franchise. It's just to get fans talking on forums about how things will be potentially playing out. But if you think about it, this happened in the sequels to Saw as well, with people somehow ending up being chained up in the same bathroom.

- He has all the same abilities and mannerisms as Wesker.
And you could make the case that he has the evolved powers of Wesker.
- Victor Gideon calls him an "Imitation" clearly linking him to Wesker in some way.
Not linking. Zeno is a clone of Wesker. The story is clearly stating this. Grace is ground Zero for this. Zeno wants HER biological genes so they can do gene therapy to make Zeno younger. And then do the clone therapy with this gene to create a new baby. Just like Grace. They need more Weskers in this storyline. Look at the room that they ended in. Think about it.

Elpis is the codename for whatever Zeno wanted to do. My guess is THOSE babies? They were supposed to be the new humans of Raccoon City. WITH Grace's genes. Zeno wanted a weapon, though. What if, you take the genes of Zeno, and combine it with Grace to make more Mr. X'es. Remember, the investors wanted more weapons. Zeno said they spent so much money to create this next generation of foot soldiers, but we don't clearly know the agenda of Zeno, Gideon, or any of the new company. All of it is speculation.

Elpis is a vaccine, I know that... that's what the story says. But I cannot ignore the room. I cannot ignore the choices. I cannot ignore what that room is designed to do. Because once the blood goes into all the babies, you got a million Mr. X'es to deal with in 10 years from now. All Zeno needed was two things: Grace's password, and/or Grace's blood. Just remember: Grace is ground Zero.
- He had the Racoon City Syndrome just like Leon and Sherry, this might be because Wesker would have had it and that was copied too, or Zeno was in Racoon City in 1998.
That's the most logical idea of this. They didn't talk about the "mold" in this game. Which is why I disagree with...
- He has the Mold, which is how he instantly regenerated his arm after Leon cut it off, just like Ethan in 7&8. He might be like Ethan, a reanimated biological duplicate made entirely of Mold, or he could be like Jack Baker whose body was infected by the Mold. Both Ethan and Jack survived extreme events that would have killed even a Zombie, which is how Zeno survived being decapitated.
I believe Capcom created a new storyline to get away from this storyline for a bit to wrap up the RE2 > RE4 storyline. So, no.... this "mold" is completely separate, and not connected to the Requiem storyline. The requiem storyline is the Raccoon City outbreak/virus, and the las plagas virus that Leon contracted during RE4. Mold <-----------> Raccoon City. Completely different.

RE7, RE8 NEVER... NEVER talked about Umbrella, or any of Raccoon City. At least, how I remember it. Completely different experiment. And I also disagree with...
- He is a high ranking member of the Connections, an organisation that weaponised the Mold, and who's soldiers retrieved Zeno's head (and body) in the epilogue of Requiem.
You said it here. Kind-of.

Actually, I could see them going to the craters. Plural. We explored one of the craters - Raccoon City's crater.

I actually though that Requiem was gonna be an open world game where we would go to the crater. This clip...?

...Had me hyped for Requiem, because I thought we were gonna explore the destroyed Raccoon City, and the crater itself. We kinda did, but these are "quadrant" worlds. They dangled a carrot, IMHO. I could see us exploring more of this in the future, though.

I hope we get to play as Chris in the DLC. Leon going to the mansion would be a first. But the police station feels more like HIS true golden moment. It was STARS who entered the estate. Just like it was Claire who went to Alfred's palace (yet another memorable location).

They really need to bring Ada back. How old would she be now in the timeline? It's getting bad having to consider their natural age in the series.

You don't think this is the Mold? It sure doesn't look like a virus ability. Wesker could regenerate but not like this.

I never made the connection of Zeno’s healing to that of the mold. Some creatures throughout the series have had the same regenerative abilities that the virus gives them to survive extreme wounds.

People that aren’t necessarily overtaken by the virus like Sherry show similar ability, and even someone like Moira to a lesser extent.

Sherry show similar ability
Ah yes, Sherry's shrapnel wound does regen instantly in RE6.

I think though that Zeno's severed arm reattaching is most similar to Ethan and the fact that Zeno is a high ranking member of the Connections who have a history with the Mold (and the RE9 director is who brought the Mold to the series in RE7)

When Zeno injects Elpis, we see the Racoon City Syndrome clear up from his face, and he loses his Wesker abilities which is how Victor Gideon kills him so easily. But Elpis being an anti-viral and not an anti-fungal would not destroy the Mold, which is why he's not actually dead after being decapitated.

It was always weird that they introduced a Wesker like character with no explanation about who he is, and that we didn't get a boss fight with him either. Then he just dies. It's because we haven't seen the last of him, and we will find out who he is and we'll get to fight him too.

Wouldn’t be the first time..

I can’t think of anything else the mercenary would be interested in grabbing off the ground, so this makes the most sense than anything else I’ve thought of or seen. Though I never saw the mold angle but you make an arguable case.

I can't wait to find out how it all gets handled.

I found the Zeno character frustrating because Wesker was such an important character and to imitate him with no explanation was annoying. If it turns out the lack of info was because they planned to focus on Zeno in a later release, then I'm really looking forward to finding out more.

Of course my secret fear is Zeno will just be another Alex Wesker or Jake Muller that we never see again.

Yeah, it would be disappointing if he’s one and done. I remember him monologuing about the affairs of present day Raccoon City being scavenged by soldiers around the globe, the death of a previous president, and the nature behind the missile strike.

It’d be great to see someone like him shed more light on stuff like that again instead of reading it through files.

This would be the worst possible outcome 😔

Yes. That's the thing. They put in what they did for nostalgia. Now they may not understand they need to follow up on it.

I still think it's pointless. We already had clones with Alice. I think a Revelations 3 with Alex returning would have been a better idea for a game.

I know we've been burned before but it feels different this time, like they are being very deliberate about certain things because there is a bigger plan going on.

If they can give Zeno a decent backstory including the details about Wesker, and have him as a main antagonist / boss, I think he could be a great character.

I don't know what your trying to pull off, but you don't seem to pay attention.

When was the first time "Mold" was introduced? I don't know if you know this, but it was Resident Evil 7/Biohazard 7. Continued in RE8.

So, you mean to tell me that both Sherry, and fucking LEON S KENNEDY... contracted MOLD? If anything, the Elpis vaccine, destroyed las plagas. Also destroyed.... MOLD. Because ZENO's powers was reversed so much, that he is reverted back to the yoked human he was. So much... he got mad at Gideon.

Am I the only one who fucking sees this? Either Capcom is fucking with us, or the current developers are retconning MOLD into the RE2 > RE4 storyline, and I'm a fucking retard? Am I reading this right?

*looks around* Am I the only one who sees the plot holes? Because CAPCOM wanted to wrap up the RE2 > RE4 storyline, but then you want to bring in a virus that was only introduced during RE7, and now you want to say we'll retcon RACCOON CITY STORYLINE... AS MOLD.

Get. the. fuck. out. of here.

Might as well remake Resident Evil 4 again, then! And then INTRODUCE MOLD THERE! At that point, then, there's an alternate reality, where LEON S KENNEDY IS THE FUCKING VILLIAN. Jesus!

Me neither.

The only person in RE9 that I am suggesting has the Mold is Zeno and that is part of his back story which has not been revealed yet. The Mold is not a virus so it would not have been destroyed by Elpis which is an anti-viral (Elpis did remove Zeno's Wesker-like virus based abilities)

It's the big reveal that's in the up coming story DLC, where Zeno will play a major role.

Of course all of this is just a theory, and they may find some other way to bring Zeno back if we ever see him again at all, but I think we will.

Capcom never seems to want to resolve anything, so I give up. They never revealed why Jessica gave that guy the sample of the T-Abyss viral thing. Whatever it was called.

Natalia has never returned. Nor Billy. But okay. Bringing somebody "back" in a remake is supposed to count. Not. And Barry getting cut in RE3 was just the dumbest choice they could make, since it ruined his arc, and Jill's too, in a way.

They've became content with just recycling the past lore for remakes, and doing these awful Hollywood movies ain't helping either. But I just hate that they do that instead of focusing on the things they already built upon, for decades, in the video games.

They introduce so many new pathogens and villains, that you can tell they're just lost creatively.

I think this time it's different. If we look at the Natalia / Alex Wesker example they properly explained who Alex Wesker was and you have 2 boss fights with her.

Zeno on the other hand gave us no backstory or explanation as to his likeness to Wesker then they promptly kill him off with no boss fight. Why introduce such a major character with no explanation, no boss fight and then just kill him off. It's all very suspicious.

Well, yeah. It is. Because I have long suspected they've been making up stuff as they go along. It kind of shows.

They had Spencer portrayed as being the evil jerk he rightfully was, right up to the death blow dealt to him in RE5. Now they kidded on he has sorrow. Rewrote him to be more sympathetic.

Nah. F*ck that. Seems stupid and another series' retcon, so when Wesker offs him in the RE5 remake, we are meant to feel sorry for the very scumbag who made Umbrella and killed thousands with his virus, and who said he was to become a god. That's so laughable to make him into Mr. Moral Ground after all these years. 🥴

Notable errors aplenty. Like Claire having a weapon in a flashback she did not use in RE2. And etc. And this new storyline is probably gonna go nowhere.

RE = cash cow. Moo! 🐄

But, by SUGGESTING Zeno has mold, then you are changing the storyline of Raccoon City. The whole point of Requiem is to wrap the Raccoon City (RE2 >RE4) storyline. RE4 was its own storyline, but they didn't retcon Raccoon City into the storyline, but kept Raccoon City largely a side-story.

Raccoon City is canon to RE4, largely, but it's not the focal point. Make sense? No? Okay, fine. Whatever.

I agree that Requiem was about wrapping up the Raccoon City storyline, but it was also about moving on to the future of the series. Victor Gideon as an old Umbrella researcher represented the past, while Zeno and the Connections gave us a glimpse into the future of the series, with the Connections replacing Umbrella as the main evil organisation, and Zeno replacing Wesker.

Zeno in Greek means "Gift of Zeus", or "from Zeus" and is a direct reference to Wesker thinking he was a God and Zeno being from Wesker.
