RE9 RE9 DLC dropped

Completed my first run through it last night. It's okay? A bit disappointing if I'm to be honest. It feels very scrapped together last minute with copy and paste story areas and even the dialogue is the same. They did mix up a few enemy locations at least but not enough to keep it interesting. I also find most of the perks to be very boring and uninspired. There's a few cool ones like setting enemies on fire with kicks but then there's a lot of boring ones like 10% increased damage on certain weapons.

I think I would've preferred a Grace Must Die mode instead that is more inspired by Ethan Must Die in the Care House. This isn't very hard either outside of Blister Heads randomly being able to one shot you. I don't really see myself replaying this much unfortunately.

The (repetitive) music alone makes me not want to play it.

Might be their laziest Resident Evil DLC since Ghost Survivors.

Capcom's being retarded.

I'm usually more on the positive side, but this is a miss and then some. While the main story of RE9 definitely hit, everything post completion has felt like a major miss. The book isn't closed and proper DLC can still add to it positively, but as of now this is one of the most lackluster post completion Biohazard titles. Remember that feel after completing RE4 for the first time? Even on the vanilla GCN version, this is the polar opposite. I was up for a new mode, but this is a retread and is devoid of any soul. If that's the case just give us a proper Mercs or Raid mode please.

Not feeling this. Wish I was could tell what was going on behind the scenes because I feel like maybe they couldn’t balance Leon around a mercenaries mode.

There isn’t a dodge this time around and there are a lot of ranged enemies that could turn a lot of situations into a nightmare or downright annoying.

The fact that the devs awkwardly kept in the main game narrative's voice lines also shows how slapped together this minigame really was. Was like amateur hour, in such decisions.

I've been much happier with the series ever since 2017, with RE7's debut and thereafter, namely because of the enjoyment I get out of the RE Engine itself and the new cast, which Capcom has nailed for the most part. The greater focus on survival horror has been the most important pivot for me, as well.

However, it's not out of line for me to say that Capcom's been creativity bankrupt - which I think is the reason why we're getting half-assed additions like this.

They try to make something different, but fail.

That's the exact reason why I think they've been leaning on remakes so much, aside from popular demand. Capcom REALLY seem to be struggling to create something that genuinely stands on its own that works, without leaning on the material of earlier titles. If we're really going to be honest with ourselves here, even the "original" sequels like Village and Requiem have HEAVILY "borrowed" from other RE games, RE movies and even some non-RE sources - sometimes to a 'T'. I want them to stick with the tried-and-true survival horror elements as a foundation, sure, but don't copy and paste literally entire scenarios, beat for beat. Capcom's (im)balance with "playing it safe" is becoming a detriment, and the cracks are starting to show more with Requiem in general. I'm somebody who mostly enjoyed Requiem, too.

So, I'm not super surprised fans are getting such half-assed DLC like this... I genuinely think Capcom is not coming from the right necessary mindset or talent for creating anything wholly new or original that's ALSO well-designed and fun. Might be more incompetence with the leads' direction than fear of doing so.

But we certainly have been through worse...
