The fact that the devs awkwardly kept in the main game narrative's voice lines also shows how slapped together this minigame really was. Was like amateur hour, in such decisions.
I've been much happier with the series ever since 2017, with RE7's debut and thereafter, namely because of the enjoyment I get out of the RE Engine itself and the new cast, which Capcom has nailed for the most part. The greater focus on survival horror has been the most important pivot for me, as well.
However, it's not out of line for me to say that Capcom's been creativity bankrupt - which I think is the reason why we're getting half-assed additions like this.
They try to make something different, but fail.
That's the exact reason why I think they've been leaning on remakes so much, aside from popular demand. Capcom REALLY seem to be struggling to create something that genuinely stands on its own that works, without leaning on the material of earlier titles. If we're really going to be honest with ourselves here, even the "original" sequels like Village and Requiem have HEAVILY "borrowed" from other RE games, RE movies and even some non-RE sources - sometimes to a 'T'. I want them to stick with the tried-and-true survival horror elements as a foundation, sure, but don't copy and paste literally entire scenarios, beat for beat. Capcom's (im)balance with "playing it safe" is becoming a detriment, and the cracks are starting to show more with Requiem in general. I'm somebody who mostly enjoyed Requiem, too.
So, I'm not super surprised fans are getting such half-assed DLC like this... I genuinely think Capcom is not coming from the right necessary mindset or talent for creating anything wholly new or original that's ALSO well-designed and fun. Might be more incompetence with the leads' direction than fear of doing so.
But we certainly have been through worse...
