Re2 Remake vs Re3 Remake

Well; it's not canon anyways, same thing with re2 2019. Which is also not canon. Basically capcom saying " You've survived raccoon city but at the end of the day; it never happened. "

Never played any of the last of us games.

One of the reasons why re2 2019 and re3 2020 convoluted the timeline can even be seen on re wiki.

It's the " This section is based on a game with branching story paths, or several games with conflicting accounts. For more detail on differing portrayals, see this page. " statement some pages use.

Prior to re2 2019; none of the pages had something like that.

Granted re wiki isnt fully reliable ( Even admins think so since some of the articles arent " polished " and they know this. ) but still; wanted to mention this.

I remember spending time at there and having discussion there as well.

Some people were pointing out the story flaws re2 2019 made at that time.

Granted making comments at that site's pages is impossible now since they closed the comments section.

It didnt bother me cause ı was taking both re2's into account just like how ı took both re1's into account but after thinking about it; it bothers me.

Not to mention; when re1 was remade, the franchise was suffering from " 1998 syndrome " and there wasnt any game set after 1998. ( Dead aim was released after re0. ) Re4 was the 1st mainline entry released that's set after 1998.

Meanwhile re2 was remade / reimagined after re7 and there were many games that were set after 1998.

It's no wonder the devs had to explain it isnt canon otherwise it would have been a DISASTER.

Thankfully re3 2020 isnt canon either.

It's a shame; most people dont care about story and progression, all they care is mindless horror.

" It's action so it means it's bad! "

One of the worst statements ever created.

If you pretend they aren't remakes, they're good games on their own. RE3 though feels awfully budgeted. I guess their aim was to get that one out as soon as they could after RE2 was a success. OK, I know the work on that game began way sooner than people believe, but compared to RE2, it's trash in comparison.

I'm not really that fussy about RE2 either. If it never existed at all, it wouldn't upset me. But I did like some parts where they got the creepy aspects near enough right. The police station had that (rarely seen in modern horror games) claustrophobic feeling to it, but the story went by too quickly, to where it felt so rushed. I'm still more engrossed in The Evil Within games, however.

One thing I'm sure you can agree on that sucked with RE2, was the post police station areas. Once you're past the gun store, it's onto the crappy alligator "boss battle" and then you ride a tram down to the lab. That's more or less it. The experience didn't feel fantastic whatsoever. You just get inside the cable car, ride it down, and you're pretty much already there at the lab. What the hell? In the original, you had William Birkin on your ass and the music as you reached the control room was appropriately eerie sounding, like you knew you were nearing your final destination. Here? You had none of that feeling. It was all just one big messed up opportunity.

Even with RE4, I can see them changing some stuff to give some villains depth, but mostly, I think Capcom will be watering it down for time restraints.

Between t-103 and nemesis; ı think nemesis in re3 2020 is handled better than t-103 in re2 2019.

Sure t-103 stalks you more in re2 2019, especially when compared to nemesis in re3 2020.

But the thing ı dont like is; you cant down the monster and get the loot in re2 2019 unlike og re2.

Meanwhile; you're still allowed to fight and down nemesis to obtain its drops in re3 2020.

I dont like how they cut / replaced his drops in og re3 for realism but at least the monster contains some unlike t-103.

Another reason is nemesis at least has a cool mutation which is its 2nd form.

Though unfortunately; its last form is lame, it's a boring giant mutated wall.

Meanwhile t-103's mutated form looks pathetic; it cant even fully mutate.

Why cant it fully mutate?

Ada previously rammed the rpd van to its face while exploding that thing.

I dont understand why it cant fully mutate when it was caught by nest explosion.

Making the games feel both more grounded and more over-the-top absurd at the same time.

Clearly that is why stuff had to be cut.

The original plants were better too. These plant zombies are just stupid. They did give some zombie officers armour which is what I was hoping for. It's just too bad the dream of seeing a RE2 remake became an unmitigated nightmare.

Thank you for mentioning ivies in re2 2019.

They are so lame ı swear.

They also contradict green zombies in outbreak file 2 as well ivy +yx in darkside chronicles.

At least re3 2020 adds ne-alpha parasite zombies which ı think are pretty cool.

I dont see how they contradict any lore either.

Plus this death scene feels unique to the franchise:

I think claire wielding the gatling gun in re2 2019 is more stupid than jill wielding the rail gun in re3 2020.

I mean gatling gun is an unlockable weapon in og re2 while the rail gun isnt one in og re3; it always appeared at the end and was required to blow nemesis to bits.

I'm glad they at least kept the weapon in re3 2020 even though it's not " realistic " for jill to shoot that thing and survive while the weapon creates craters on ground. ( Remember, re3 2020 is obsessed with realism and cuts content due to this weird obsession. )

Though you cant obtain an optional rocket launcher in re3 2020 unlike og game.

You can either use one rocket to blow nicholai or save all 4 for nemesis' final form.

Oh well; at least jill finishes nemesis' final form in re3 2020 with a one liner.

Wished she saved that iconic stars line at the end though; it's used way too early.

Meanwhile claire loses her " You lose, big guy! " line in re2 2019 due to her being too busy at her best donte impression.

I feel like if ı played re3 2020; something tells me ı would enjoy it more than re2 2019 or at least enjoy it as equally as re2 2019.

Idk it feels more focused than re2 2019 in some ways; like it seems to make up its own mind in being a reimagining.

While re2 2019 cant make up its own mind between being a reimagining and a remake, talk about identity crisis.

Though ı wont do that; ı already did a mistake by buying re7 and re2 2019.

Another reason why ı dont want to support capcom is cause of the hate bandwagon people have for re6.

I feel like by supporting the capcom for re7's direction; ı'm also automatically supporting the hate bandwagon for re6.

I've checked the reviews as well as opinions for re7 and most of the time; those include bashing re6 one way or another followed by the garbage " Return to the roots. " statement.

Since ı dont agree with most of the criticisms for re6; in a way, ı dont agree with most of the praises for re7 either.

That automatically caused me to grow disdain for that lame 1st person junkfest.

I'm glad they didnt change jill's and carlos' backstories in re3 2020.

I wasnt a fan of how they changed leon's and ada's backstories as well as their relationship in re2 2019.

And while jill losing her samurai edge ( Thankfully it comes back as an unlockable though it still should have been be able to be obtained in the story and the unlockable should have been dual samurai edges. ) is a bummer; it's not as bad as claire losing her stars knife.

She also lost her brother's lighter; unlike og re2, there's no lighter in re2 2019 and it cant be found in rpd.

How is it gonna connect to recv then where she has the lighter in her inventory?

I find it weird that they cut the stars knife for realism ( " Claire cant enter raccoon with a knife, that's illegal. " ) and yet they gave her a revolver which is an even more illegal thing to do.

Oh well; at least claire can find the browning hp which is nice and probably the best gun in the game. ( Laser and huge capacity. )

I feel like capcom should have remade these 2 games in the same style as the one in 2002 before making dead aim and re4. ( Those 2 games take place after 1998. ) That way; they would have been a lot more faithful; one of the reasons why remake was faithful to og game was cause it was made before the timeline started to move past 1998.

Oh and might as well drop these, rod lima's re2:

If ı had to rank the main characters in these 2 games from most to least favourite; that would be like this:

1. Jill
2. Carlos
3. Claire
4. Sherry
5. Leon
6. Ada

Imo; re3 2020 handles characters better than re2 2019 does though the way the characters are handled in that game are still disappointing.

I'm glad they didnt give jill and carlos new backstories unlike non-drunk leon and fbi ada in re2 2019.

I like the new sewers and while alligator was handled better in og game; ı'm still glad they at least kept the monster in a way instead of removing it like other monsters. I wasnt a fan of the nest lab though plus the new ivies are lame.

RE2R is way better, no doubt about it. Every time I play RE3R I get so dissapointed with all the stuff they cut out, especially The Mercenaries. I was so looking forward to that. Instead of extra modes they gave us that lame Resistance game, which I do not really like. RE2 did alter, add in and cut some things, but for the most part if was faithful to the original. A few other things--

-NO original soundtrack swap like RE2R (I will admit the OST isn't bad but I would've liked this to be included)
-Carlos's new design didn't do it for me, especially the hair. It's not bad necessarily, but they should've stayed more faithful to his original design--at least they stayed true to his personality.
-Nemmy's four-legged second transformation is beyond stupid. Again, should've stayed faithful to the original.
-Game is too short, but then again the original game was quite short also.
-They completely cut out the clocktower interior and park areas

Overall I thought it was an OK game but those were some of the big things that I didn't like. Feels like Capcom kinda rushed it out without thinking about it much. They know RE3 isn't nearly as beloved as RE2 so they really didn't bother putting nearly as much effort into it. I really hope RE4R won't be a repeat of this experience.

Mr. X was definitely handled way better than Nemesis. They made Nemesis too scripted like Ustanak was and the way he tosses Jill around drives me insane. Nemesis was essentially an assassin tyrant and everytime he gets a hold of Jill he just throws her, like what? In the OG he is constantly trying to pierce Jill’s face with his tentacles and actually kills a STARS member. In the remake he kills no STARS, so that was a huge waste of an investment on Umbrella’s part.

You can just down Nemmy with 1 grenade and he’s out. The rewards you get from him are also pathetic and the way he zips around like Spider Man is immersion breaking and stupid. He just bungee jumps with his tentacle and into the sky and vanishes once you leave certain areas. It’s really baffling how poorly he was scripted.

Why replace his badass trench coat with trash bags? Looks weird and not very protective. His flamethrower was also not practical at all, it leaves him wide open to attack. It would have been better to give him a gatling gun instead. His rocket launcher also looks generic and boring compared to his sick rusty bloody looking one in OG, it’s pathetic!

His mutations also make no sense. The T-Virus doesn’t mutate monsters that fast and to the state of a blob without the assistance from stronger viruses.

I can go on and on but you guys get my point. The only thing I didn’t really care for about Mr. X was his transformation, everything else was improved upon.

Yep. I've seen videos on YouTube where people say Mr. X was what Nemesis should have been. I mean, Mr. X was never super fast in his 1998 form, but they did need to improve him for a glossy, full on 2019 remake. But Nemesis just flat out sucks. You don't really get scared of him, because he's easy to defeat in the relatively few 'boss battles' he's in. The rest of the times he pops up is just scripted segments. He wasn't even in the police station. Many people used to assume that the massive hole you seen near the steam was his doing, only to find out it was caused by a bomb. The doggy Nemesis is just... uh! My God, Capcom. You just screwed up a classic enemy. :(

I would have been more ok with his dog form if it happened later in the game. They totally cut out his shirtless phase with his tentacles sticking out. His theme also sucks and sounds like some kind of generic chase theme.

It will hurt to replay this game again, it’s so sad what could have been. I don’t know if this was posted yet but this pretty much sums up my feeling to REmake 3.

Yeah. I really enjoyed that guy's videos. I also used to enjoy watching Nemesis (the YouTuber), but he's a shill now. That sums up RE3 greatly. Don't expect anything for RE4. What will Ashley be like? ?

Ashley is quite a fanservice character. I sometimes think that trying to save her is like playing a Mario game when it turns out that the princess is in another castle. Ashley seems to exist for escort missions and pantsu shots.

I wouldn't mind if they did something different with Ashley in the remake. She could light the rooms with a flashlight like Moira and help solve puzzles. You can even take an episode about Ashley from the original and add several of the same in different time intervals. This will be a good homage to the Clock Tower series.

Oh, I certainly do miss Clock Tower in this day and age. That was one of my favourite horror games way back in 2004. I'm not sure, but I think Capcom obtained the rights, and made one game. It flopped, and that was it for the series. At one time, I think they even planned a movie adaption of the third game (technically the fourth), where Alyssa Hamilton would have been the main character. ?

Capcom unfortunately missed the boat so many times with their opportunities. At least Resident Evil Village looks better than 7: Biohazard is. ?
