The big Sony event is happening tonight at 9 PM in the UK.

Don't expect to see Resident Evil Village. I mean, Capcom already stated that will be at Tokyo Game Show. It would be a dream come true to see Silent Hill at long last, but I just don't know what to think anymore.

I don't see how this can prove anything. These texts are written not by developers, but by different people who are responsible for publishing games in different regions. In Russian and Japanese releases, completely different words are written on the boxes.

Resident Evil 4 has long established itself as an important stage in the history of the survival horror genre. This is not the classic form that Alone in the Dark created, but its recontextualization.

It is especially difficult not to refer the game to the horror genre, when there are games like Dead Space and The Evil Within, which are inevitably influenced by Resident Evil 4. Even Resident Evil 7, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 was influenced by Resident Evil 4.

Resident Evil 4 left its mark on the history of horror and scared a lot of players at the time, because the game was able to balance the abilities of the character and the abilities of enemies, put the player in stressful situations and show a cold and dark atmosphere.

This theme constantly reminds me of how people don't want to accept that games like Outlast and Amnesia are also survival horror games, because their approach to game design differs from the classic vision of the genre.
No; it's written by devs for ps2 version. Even they were aware that they were using a very different formula from pre-re4 mainline entries plus outbreak games.

I know that the game is officially included in survival horror genre just like re5 and re6 which are also included in that genre by capcom but ı would like to call those 3 games as action horror rather than survival horror. Cause they focus on action / combat more than horror / exploration and the other survival horror elements like inventory management, decision making, puzzles etc. are noticeably streamlined when compared to pre-re4 mainline entries plus outbreak games.

What is written on the boxes in russian and japanese releases?

I never played outlast and amnesia but ı dont think they are survival horror cause they are hide and seek and you arent allowed to fight back apparently.

Despite the fact that Shinji Mikami coined the term survival horror, there have been such games before. There was Alone in the Dark, from which Resident Evil copied many ideas, and Clock Tower, in which Jennifer could only hide or run. Even these games are not the first representatives of the genre, if we dig even deeper.

Survival horror is so named because survival is the gameplay, and horror is the setting. Why is hiding and running not survival? Jennifer Simpson and Miles Upshur are trying to survive this way.

Authors can choose different approaches, but they all achieve the same goal: to give the player a scary and fun experience. Only the accents differ.

What is written on the boxes in russian and japanese releases?

On Japanese boxes there is no mention of such a genre as survival action. There is very little text at all, and the one that is there describes the return of Evil and the fact that 6 years have passed since the incident in Raccoon City.

The Russian website of the publishing house still has a description that this is the best survival horror according to the press.

I don't think the developers are in control of these aspects. The boxes are handled by publishers.

I know games that are similar to re1's structure appeared before such as alone in the dark.

I dont think outlast and amnesia are survival horror cause according to mikami; survival horror allows you to fight back while those games dont allow to fight back. You can only run.

Also survival horror doesnt always have to mean " scary " . There can be scary games that arent survival horror at all.

Dmc1 for example has atmosphere and demons which to some people are scary but that's not survival horror. That's a hack and slash.

Personally ı dont find re games scary, especially after replaying them multiple times from both release and canon storyline order, and ı think the survival horror aspect of the franchise is exaggerated by the fanbase.

Not to mention survival horror doesnt have an objective definition. It's always subjective and resident evil franchise is about biohazards and the actual name of this series is biohazard. As long as a biohazard is involved; it becomes resident evil.

Am ı the only one who doesnt trust the re net's re chronology site?

I dont think that site is even reliable.

For some reason; some canon games and other canon material are missing.

All these years and capcom still havent updated their re chronology page.

I dont think they even care about re collections anymore.

Thank god thebatman released his timeline article.

I hope news bot will release his updated chronology of evil article too.

I don't remember trusting this chronology at all.

I'd like to know what they want to do with the lore of the universe. The concept of Resident Evil 7 is absolutely clear to me: it is a soft reboot that opens doors to new players and sets a new direction. But separate remakes or reinterpretations are something strange. Not bad for me or good, but just something I don't understand. At all.

So is "Village" struggling on the PS5? Now and again, Dusk Golem says that Capcom is having problems with its development. But the PC and Xbox Series X versions are doing just great, according to his tweets.

I noticed that Wesker's coat from Resident Evil 5 and tyrant's clothing from the latest Resident Evil 3 are based on the same material: carbon fiber. Yamagata said it was some kind of science-fiction material that was obviously stronger than real fabric. I wonder what this material is made of.

If Dusk Golem claims the PS5 version of Resident Evil Village is throttling, I may as well buy a Xbox Series X (or S). But what about the Sony exclusives?! ?

Usually it's just better to wait and not buy the consoles initial batch anyway, whether it's Sony's or Microsoft's...
I don't think RE Village will get VR compatibility right away and eventually if the PS5 version ends up being the worst at launch but RE 8 sells well on it's PC and Xbox console versions its possible Sony resorts to paying Capcom for a new "Gold Edition" of Village later on (it might take another year for Capcom to patch it up and make the game work with Sony's VR).
Hopefully who bought the standard version won't need to buy the Gold Edition to get the patch fixes but as it stands I don't think Capcom will delay the launch of Village due to PS5 issues, so all in all in case Dusk's info proves right then the better experience for playing Village from day one will be the Xbox Series X or if you are a PC gamer with a decent enough rig get that. (but I'd say the Series X is the safest bet all things considered).

I noticed that since the announcement of Revelations 2, I began to actively theorize about future games.

Resident Evil Village is no exception.

There is one thought that bothers me. This is a collaboration between The Connections and H.C.F. So far, I still hold the opinion that this syndicate is a completely new player in the market, and the connection with a rival company occurred through Wesker, who was just then selling the t-Veronica virus to criminal syndicates.

But I'm thinking more and more about whether this syndicate might be the same rival company that Ada and Wesker worked for.

Being obsessed with this idea, I came up with a strange idea.

According to Kaitai Shinsho, Eveline was created in the early noughties.

Based on this, and assuming that the mold was created using t-Veronica, we can conclude that the rival company was successful in its project after the events of CODE: Veronica.

This is important because I am concerned about the embryo from the new game.

If you look at it carefully, you will notice that its body is parasitized by an organism similar to the Las Plagas parasite. And on the head of the embryo itself, you can notice stitches.

Yes, it can definitely resemble Nemesis, but the process of creating this embryo is similar to creating Eveline: when she was an embryo, she was injected with the mold genome.

Which brings me to the theory: the rival company's girls are a challenge to Umbrella and its tyrants in the arms race. And the girl from the new game was created as a response to the success of Nemesis. This could have happened before the t-Veronica virus was stolen, which gave the company a big advantage.

Definitely, this storyline is based on the point of view that new remakes are needed to establish some retcons. The Connections could have received data from Kolya, and Romania and Spencer's castle could have been the source of the Las Plagas parasite, which was artificially recreated by Umbrella.

There is a funny parallel in this theory: if in the classic games of the series we fought against Umbrella and its tyrants, and a rival company occupied a third party and raided the corporation, then in the new games we fight against a rival company and its "tyrants", and Umbrella occupies a third party and arranges raids.

Well, the lady with the hat and white hair, may be Alex Wesker. It's odd, though. She looks fairly old. Maybe that's an issue with her mind transformation tactic. Either way, we will just have to see if what Dusk Golem said about her being a villain holds water, but I believe he wouldn't just say things that aren't true.

Regardless of whether I believe him or not, I see a lot in common between this Dracula figure and the actress Elaine Hendricks, who gave her appearance to Alex in Revelations 2. They literally have the same face shape, the same jawline, the same nose, lips, and especially the eyes and eyebrows. She looks a lot like Alex, but she has dark hair like Natalia. Perhaps it was really the consciousness that "corrected" Natalia's face.

And the color of the clothes is peculiar to Alex, too.

If it's Alex, her connection to Spencer's castle doesn't seem strange to me. At all.

But I wonder how Alex is connected to The Connections. The only option I see is through Albert.

Oh, Capcom knows what they're doing. Kill off one Wesker, replace that Wesker with another, and just keep putting the games in different mansions, and to them, it's still Resident Evil either way. I see the last two games as what I would best describe as being a "secondary reboot", like how RE4 was a soft reboot after CVX. Eventually, something's gonna reboot the series again someday, likely after Resident Evil Village.

I think gradually, they will want to distance themselves from using first person, and omit including uninteresting people like Ethan Winters. As well as developing more remakes for us pay piggies, of course. But I do think Resident Evil Village is just a gloried continuation of 7: Biohazard - so our confused friend Ethan can figure out "WHY" our main man Chris is "SORRY" for shooting poor little Mia! ;)

Well, I don't see any reason for Ethan to come back. He is not a warrior and does not want to save the world. I used to think that his story ended with Resident Evil 7 biohazard, but it turned out that no one was going to forgive him for killing little Eveline. I believe that the events of Resident Evil Village are direct consequences, and not completely different events in which for some reason they decided to return Ethan. This makes sense to me.

But I also want to say that I'm not entirely clear what Capcom will do with the veterans of the series. I understand Chris's involvement, because it makes sense to me. He was sent to Louisiana because the best BSAA specialists could not cope, and the importance and risk of the operation was extremely high. In the new game, Chris appears because he is familiar with Ethan and it is somehow connected with the syndicate.

But I think characters like Chris, Jill, and the others have been deadlocked for a long time. Once upon a time, Resident Evil and Resident Evil 2 established characters and storylines that developed consistently. Claire participates in the events of CODE: Veronica because she is looking for her brother. Nemesis pursues Jill as "revenge" for T-002. Everything had its causes and consequences. All the characters challenged and fought a huge corporate machine, so their storylines had to come to a logical conclusion when Umbrella was to be defeated. But instead, Resident Evil 4 focuses on Leon and builds a whole new narrative so that the characters in the series become a key pillar for the entire mythology. The series continued this trend: it built all sorts of stories around these characters, began to drag them from one incident to another, even if the events are not connected in any way. And now they're at a dead end: their war is endless, I don't see any logical conclusion for them.

Or rather, I lied a little here. In my opinion, the new Umbrella can clean up the mess in this world: it will develop and expand. No matter how long it takes, it will eliminate all those who were once helped by Albert Wesker. And only then, when it monopolizes the market, the characters will throw Umbrella the last challenge that will forever put an end to the history of the series.

I hope this weekend, Capcom doesn't show off too many spoilers. I just want to play the damn game when it eventually releases next year, and I don't need another 20 to 30 minute playable demo, where you show me like 10% of the game. :p

And God. Just please make this the last first person sequel, if even for a good long while. Is this some sort of race to get to the "tenth" (more like a millionth) game? Just slow it down, Capcom.
