Yeah, Yama. It sucks. :(

All but a few of my survival horror games were physical. I was never a digital buyer.

I may have gotten a PC game if it was a physical copy. Never as a download.

Personally I'm pretty appalled by it, even if the writing was on the wall. The ability to preserve the medium is why I even supported PS despite having a PC. There's something said for being able to physically preserve products legacy, especially offline. They're playing with fire here and I don't see this one going away.

I'm assuming it has to do with PS6 and the mobile rumors, so perhaps disc is tough, but they may want to re-think how they're going about it. The music industry went through this and is bigger than gaming, so it's not a great sign for us... though if we can land somewhere in the middle like movies I think that's fair (going out of your way to secure a copy).

While I am sad about it from a collection point of view, as you say the writing has been on the wall for a while and the reality is the version of the game you actually play is not the version that's in the box and hasn't been for many years. However we can still back up the final version our games on an external hard drive (go with a HDD not a SSD for long term storage). It lacks the romance of a boxed game and I'm going to miss that, but our games aren't in danger of disappearing.
 
There was a bunch of links I seen on Facebook yesterday, claiming The Evil Within 3 is in active development. 🤑

I do hope so. It's a scarier series than any recent RE game. Let's be honest. 🤣

So true in regards to what's on the back of the box. Perhaps the worst offender was Destiny 2. I was going through some old crates of games and saw the back of the box and thought to myself, not one thing shown is available in the game anymore. Like the literal vanilla campaign at launch has been deleted and it's online only, so there's no way to play the actual campaign that I bought a game of. It's actually incredible and a bit criminal when you think of it.

If you were stuck playing the disc version of most games, with out being able to download all the patches you'd be playing a buggy, less performant, less balanced version of the game. Most games have a significant day 1 patch and then multiple patches after that for a period of time. So while I understand why people are upset from a collector's point of view, the reality is we have been relying on downloads for a long time already.

Yeah, even back to the PS360 era. What I was referencing is that the vanilla campaign of Destiny 2 is gone, even online. Like it quite literally doesn't exist. Nor do the first few expansions. It's actually a pretty rare and criminal case really.

Finally the TLOU Factions crowd can eat something even if not official. Passion projects sometimes give you more of what you want anyway in the end.
 
I regret selling my rare horror games.

I looked on eBay at what one would be shelling out for unused copies. Sealed copies can be anything from £700 to over a grand.

Yeah. Not happening, sorry. But I was a bit too hasty when I sold them.

I'm pissed to be honest. I know the writing has been on the wall for a while but I thought we had at least one more generation of physical before it happened. I play mostly on my PS5 and have a big physical library. I enjoy going for the platinums in the games I play. This being announced at the same time as the closure of the PS3 and Vita store AND right after Sony announced they'll be removing purchased digital movies from peoples library's does not paint a good look for an all digital future with them.

I'll buy physical of games I care about until they officially stop it for good in 2028 but I think I might be switching to PC after that for most games. Arrogant Sony is in full force and I don't see any reason to buy a PS6 if it's an all digital console. I can buy almost all the same games I buy on PlayStation on PC in that case with the added benefit of having multiple different store fronts to choose from and being able to play them along with the same games I bought on Steam 10-15 years ago. I'll only miss out on the exclusives and with Sony committing to doubling down on live service slop, I don't think I'll be missing out on much.

It would probably sting less if they gave an option to convert my physical library to digital but they really don't seem to give a shit about their customers, especially with their silence over all the backlash. If I can't carry my physical collection with me forward, I'll just move to platform where I can play everything in one place and is more reliable. Not to mention I don't have to pay an extra fee for online play.

I suppose I made my peace with it when they released the digital only PS5, although at least you still had an option then.

On the topic of the PS3 store closing down they have said that you will still be able to download your purchased games after the store front is closed.
