Resident Evil 0 Remake’s Rumored Partnership Feels Like History Repeating Itself

The rumored Resident Evil 0 remake could repeat history if recent reports about an alleged marketing deal for the game actually come to fruition.

This is quite poetic if true, gives me a chuckle. I don't mind either way ofc given it's just marketing rights, the game will of course release across all major platforms.

History repeats itself if so. Either way, as long as it still releases across all major platforms on day one and isn't a timed exclusive, that's fine by me.

In all seriousness though, I would love to play a RE0 Remake, as long as it is a completely separate title from rumored(ha) RE1 Remake 2. I am aware that it has a mixed reception among the fanbase, but I enjoyed it as a game in and of itself with some experimental features. Every location in that game was well designed and Billy Cohen was surprisingly a great character with great backstory, and I'm positive updating it with modern features and improving on the co-op feature would be a blast.

I always treat it as it's own thing and pretend it never happened when playing Biohazard 1, but some people don't have the cognitive capacity to see it as such, unfortunately.

The only potential danger I see here is that if they do Remake Biohazard 1 again, and Remake 0 as well, how would they tie it all in w/o screwing up the Biohazard 1 Remake? Definitely some red flags there.

Like yourself I too separate it, I was hard on it back then, but little did I know we were in a golden era and how spoiled we were with quality. Playing it now I love it, it's essentially some more RE:make, the best part is the assets weren't lost so it holds up gorgeously.

I really enjoyed RE0, it just needed item boxes and it would have been much less frustrating.
I think the reason they got rid of the item boxes is because it would have made the sections where Rebecca and Billy get separated easier.

I really hope RE0 gets a remake, I might even play it on the Switch2 for nostalgic reasons!

People would always complain coming across an item and having to travel back to a box, then come back for it, was jarring. I know, our ‘25 brains almost can’t comprehend this now, it’s charm to us now (and I was fine with it then) but I remember it was a serious point of contention for the series at the time. Think of it, we had 0,OB and 4, all changed the inventory system back to back.

Which is strange if you think about it. I mean, the original plan for item boxes was to have them be like how they were in Real Survival mode in REmake: Items in boxes do not teleport, forcing you to backtrack the whole 9 yards to get what you need.

It's paradoxical to think that people were complaining about a feature that was already simplified in the first place.

Same here.

I thought the remake had the best graphics, along with 0. I did feel as if 0 was rather boring after the very solid train section opener.

But the PS2 era was glorious, with constant hits. The PS3 era was nothing special until The Last of Us came along, followed by The Evil Within.

Now anticipated games are getting cancelled. WHY? It is hard to be a fan of modern gaming when you wonder if a game will even be completed.

Mikami deserves the blame for the Nintendo exclusivity deals. That was completely his call (Suicide bombing the franchise with RE4 on that platform was also his call, but that is another topic, and probably beyond redundant at this point).

Giving Capcom AND From Software credit though, these two Japanese companies, are actually doing pretty good at reaching across all platforms these days, especially prioritizing PC gaming, which is great and really smart business practice. Reaching out to as many players as possible is a no-brainer but I guess that wasn't obvious back then. Heck, even today there seems to be a trend towards more exclusivity deals, by and large, but it seems to be much more transactional rather than purposeful.

Regarding RE0, maybe the best way to cope with the story is to just imagine that Rebecca took a nap in the mansion west save room before she pepper sprayed Chris and had a nightmare and that was RE0! "Rebecca's Nightmare" has a nice ring to it, dunnit?

CAPCOM's sales and marketing teams were even very against it immediately, but President Tsujimoto said the creator should do what they want. It wasn't so much of a "deal" though, Nintendo's reaction was just "oh? ok".

Maybe if this remake is a success, Capcom could perhaps bring back Billy for a new game. Because, as you know, he never returned in any post RE0 games, or RE anything, besides TUC Wii shooter (which I guess doesn't count, as it just retells the events of 0). But I do recall that he was supposed to be in the Infinite Darkness Netflix series, before Capcom opted to go with Leon.

Since now is a bad time to be a console gamer, (PS5 Pro, which is 45% better than PS5, cannot even come close to hitting 120 frames per second consistently with RE4R on Performance Mode, and jumps from like 85-100, which is silly in practice) I actually hope this rumor is true.

I just bought a Switch Lite at a laughably low price and Switch 2 is right around the corner so if they go ahead with this it'll be very nice.

Nintendo is being very accommodating in this bad console period with releasing lots of new stuff. Who knows when next Gen consoles will arrive but Phil Spencer is promising huge performance gains with them so it's pointless for someone like me to buy a new console right now and will have to wait probably 2-3 years!

If Nintendo can do something like this all the better I say.

Yes I know Switch technically is a console but im thinking powerhouse hook up to your 4k 120hz TV stuff that only Sony and Microsoft offer. Neither of the two seem worth it right now as opposed to Nintendo's sweet offerings on a handheld device in this time period.
