Other Leon's Wife

This is not what a business relationship looks like
Yes it does, but a better translation of that file, which again does not imply anything about cutting ties and goes on to include her suggesting a loss of future opportunity to make use of their partnership:

Additional intention of working with him further:

He also nearly got her killed by Javier in 2002 and this did nothing to stop their rivalry from continuing.

From Patrick in 2006 which again mentions her still working with him:

I've known no sources to contradict these, that's why I asked.

Oh yeah, you’re right. My bad. I read over her report again, I forgot that she technically gave him a different sample, so they wouldn’t have any reason to have a falling out.

That's the thing, I see it as betrayal wouldn't be a falling out to them so much as it would be just another Tuesday on the job. That's the life underground. No honour among thieves. They're both used to using people and being used in turn. It's not personal.

It's why Ada suddenly having remorse and wanting to settle down as Leon's little homemaker would be such a massive disservice to her character. It's just not her style. And he'd be nearly as big a criminal as Alyssa for not turning Spencer in to the FBI and FSB by not turning Ada over to the CIA. The rival company board were no better than Wesker.

Nowhere does it say she cut ties with him. Her 4 report indicates the intention to continue working with him in order to achieve her personal goal and in 5 it's mentioned she is the one who gave him Spencer's location through Irving and Patrick.

The 20th anniversary book.

A female spy possessing top-tier combat skills. Her true identity, including her real name, remains entirely unknown. She once operated under Wesker's orders but severed ties after vanishing alongside another organization during a mission to recover the dominant species Plaga. She appears to act with some purpose, though her true intentions remain undisclosed. She maintains a peculiar relationship with Leon, whom she fought alongside in Raccoon City, showing neither clear friendship nor affection.

Interesting. And contradictory given she leads him to Spencer not long after that and her personal thoughts on the immediate aftermath of the plaga retrieval and of hearing that he was killed indicate she wasn't done working with him. How odd. But nothing new there! Thanks for clarifying the source.

RE:4 seems to run with the cutting ties idea more explicitly, though the original never says she keeps working for him either. She just says they're letting each other roam free while keeping an eye on each other.

I think it's just Irving who leads Wesker to Spencer. Patrick's unaware Wesker's already in league with TRICELL, he just knows Irving's also an informant to Ada, who he knows has worked with Wesker, but he wouldn't be privy to BIO4's events. The BSAA also learn the same intel at the same time, which would make sense if it came from their major sponsor TRICELL who also wanted Spencer for themselves and might've even orchestrated Chris & Jill having to face Wesker.

Ada hears about Wesker's death just because it's a huge event for the entire underworld, as he was pretty much top dog in its informal hierarchy. She mentions being in league with him for a long time, but not that she still was.

Not explicitly but I would think "having fun with that" could only mean wanting to still use working with him to help with her goals and feeling any kind of "emptiness" over his death would be due to no longer having that option. Seems they simply never bothered to determine what her "true purpose" actually was themselves and didn't know how to keep up the plotline without just more of the same vague statements so they quietly abandoned it but couldn't commit to definitively concluding it either, rather like Mikami and Murata leaving Umbrella's revival on the table.

Ada just has an odd sense of fun, she generally gets a thrill from danger. She feels an emptiness because Wesker was such a significant figure she knew very well and suddenly no longer has to keep an eye on.

Blue Umbrella still looks like the most likely outcome for the old Umbrella revival plot, but jury's still out on it. There's no indication Ada's "true purpose" has been abandoned. She hasn't been featured since 2012 besides remakes, so it just hasn't been covered. People thought HCF was abandoned until BIO7 too. The simple truth is nothing gets abandoned unless contradicted. Some things might end up not being covered again in great depth or even at all, but they still exist within a "live" world, things are always happening even with things we don't see.

I'd argue HCF were abandoned and though they can also still be dug out of the basement for convenience, a pointless mention in a messy Connections background conspiracy that needlessly convolutes everything doesn't amount to much in the way of being brought back. They're still as far as we know as dead as TRICELL.

If they knew what to do with Ada, they'd stop keeping her out with her goal unrevealed and wouldn't tiptoe around it so much. It would've been very easy to keep her in VILLAGE yet they scrapped her when she'd be a far more fitting addition to that particular plot than Spencer ever was. At this point the unsolved mystery isn't adding anything more to her character or the overall narrative, it's just dragging out, and I don't see how it would make sense for her to not have any intentions of working with Wesker further if she still wanted to keep an eye on him. Losing access to him by cutting ties completely would make that impossible.

It's not like with Simmons who she ultimately quickly took the chance to help kill when it presented itself, she'd probably have done it a lot sooner if she could've gotten close. She wanted Wesker to advance in power for her own benefit. She also must have known that he'd be able to get a sample even without her, Ada is no fool. The idea of her suddenly wanting no more to do with him despite having no way of knowing what would happen in Africa doesn't make sense to me.

Much like archives once claiming incorrectly that Alex was male and the convenience of Zeno existing, it all just strikes me as not having a clear idea of where to go next. Things can always change on a dime again. Ada fully intending to give Wesker the sample until questioning his intentions only for his pointless answer (despite "not paying her to ask questions") to suddenly stir her conscience is also a huge deviation from her doing it on orders from the rival company. RE:4 acts like the rival company doesn't even exist as they were the reason Wesker didn't go get the sample himself. Yet he shows he can purely for fanservice.

Apologies if you decide to respond and started to before I finished those edits, I wasn't fully satisfied with that initially, I'll try to avoid making sudden changes in the future.

HCF obviously haven't been abandoned when they're mentioned in the latest game though. Being dead or unresolved doesn't mean abandoned, fans seem to have this wacky built-in notion of statutes of limitations and lack of object permanence just because things aren't addressed well or timely enough for them. The Family could be defunct by 9 too, but they're still mentioned in it, so haven't been "abandoned." You might not like certain choices or directions, just as I don't, but they are what they are.

Whether they know what to do with Ada or not doesn't matter, very little's ever pre-planned in general. That's normal for most ongoing stories. A lot goes into choosing what to cover in any given game. It's never a matter of not knowing what to do. They have many ideas but have to choose for any given project, with countless factors to influence that choice.

There's never an indication elevating Wesker was Ada's actual intent, only that he was a pawn and working with him served her "true purpose". She gave him G to survive and never gave him the dominant Plaga. Ada had no way of knowing Wesker would recover Krauser's body, whether in the original or remake. Those are the only two missions she's done for him we know of. There's never any reference to working with him afterwards, this seems to just be a misunderstanding. Ada cut ties with him because she betrayed him, with RE:4 adding the Simmons-like context of her viewing him as too much of a threat.

Ada was always going to betray Wesker either way, but she wanted to know his intentions, while previously the Umbrella revival subplot filled that role. Ada can betray Wesker both for HCF and her conscience, they aren't mutually exclusive. The remakes ignore almost anything not directly involved in their stories, because they generally try to "streamline" and are catered to a new, bigger audience allergic to complexity. Certain things don't receive the same build-up they once did, so implementing them would be awkward, while other things like Operation Javier are rewritten with entirely new context so nobody needs to have played DC. Just look how many new fans didn't even have a clue who Wesker was in RE:4. They constantly have to do balancing acts.

You might not like certain choices or directions, just as I don't, but they are what they are.
Of course, I just don't agree with the idea that that particular choice in game is what that anniversary book arbitrarily says. I also disagree that abandoned is an inappropriate term in this context.

You would think Leon would be too busy for marriage. But maybe he has been spared the cut-off point for a love life because of his exposure to different pathogens. :D

Chris and Jill should have been wed by now, but it is too time-consuming being husband and wife in a world with all these bioweapons running amok. LOL. :(
