With REQUIEM just over 24hrs away from its official release, I want to open this thread so we can collectively post our initial impressions. Feel free to use this thread to post live impressions as you go through your first play through and take breaks, or to post long form after completion.

For the first week let's use spoiler tags when we see fit. Of course as always if there's any long form post you'd like to make, feel free to make a new thread too. Thread creation is always encouraged for interesting topics, debates, etc. This will be for our initial thoughts.

Happy RE9 everyone!

This game is amazing!!! First off it's beyond beautiful to look at. Grace has the best acting in series history. The game is scary as shit, maybe the scariest the series has ever been.

There was a small Leon segment that was so much fun. The chainsaw is pure physics mayhem. A zombie picked it up, I shot its legs and it fell, then the chainsaw started to drag it across the floor like some chainsaw shark.

But right now it's all about Grace and my god it's like RE:2 but even more intense. The pressure RE:2 puts on you is why that game is so great, as well as the level design. This has the level design and every room, every hall is something horrible just waiting for you. These are the best zombies the series has ever had and the multitude of ways to get rid of them is so well done. It is so intense, and with limited saves it's nerve wreaking. I am in love!!!!

I'm only a couple hours in but yeah, so far we have a contender for one of the greatest RE's in a long time. Grace's sections feel like pure RE2 and the Care Center has massive RPD vibes. Only really played as Leon for a few short sections so far but he felt like such a powerhouse, can't wait to play more. Very curious where the story is going as well.

Also, this zombie AI is incredible. I went through this room earlier and this zombie stayed in the hall (must've successfully snuck past her) but I ended up dying and having to reload my save. Went through it a second time, she must've followed me in and well.... She jump scared me pretty good. 😅

Best Resident Evil I’ve played since 2012. If I have to sit and wait through another 7 & 8 to get to a Resident Evil of this caliber then by all means of course.
When the enemies started shooting at me with automatics and it didn’t slow the combat down, that’s when I knew this game was different, that they understood how to stretch the boundaries of the gameplay without looking goofy all while still being a ‘Resident Evil' title

Just beat it earlier today, what a wild ride. I'm about to dive in for my second playthrough but this is probably my favorite non remake RE since 4? Maybe 5?

The whole last half of this game was something else. The RPD, Tyrant/Super Tyrant, the Titan Spinner, Plant 43, Zeno being a Wesker Clone, the fucking NEMESIS parasite returning and the lickers getting a design that looks more reminicent to their classic designs. Also fuck, they brought back HUNK as a boss fight. It felt like pure fanservice but I was honestly loving every second of it. My only gripe I think is the whole Spencer and Elpis plot. The Spencer we saw during RE5 did not seem very remorseful. I know he free'd Patrick before his death but I imagined that as more of a one off thing. Also a little bit disappointed that there's no extra mode it seems (hopefully one is coming in a patch). A Mercenaries mode with playable Grace, Leon, Zeno, Victor, Hunk, etc would be pretty awesome. Also anyone else run into Tofu bouncing around outside the RPD? :ROFLMAO:

Finished it last night, game is amazing, easy 9/10. I was shocked to find that I found the Grace sections to be much better. Honestly if the game was all Grace it might have given RE:2 a run for its money as the best classic style RE game, her sections are that good. The way this game keeps the pressure on with not just stalkers but creative zombies and situations. I thought the limited gun selection and focus on stealth would hurt but it's done in such a way that it compliments every facet of classic RE strategy with item management and hallway clearing. It's some of the best classic formula stuff out there, it's just not a full game.

Leon's sections were clearly a step down from 4, they just aren't as creative or have the same energy. The large exploration section just didn't offer enough things to do for how long the section lasted. Don't get me wrong there are some very creative moments but the majority of the standard combat is pretty basic, basic enemies, basic layout. 9's encounter design has more in common with RE6 than 4, in that it's not so much how will this room be different in layout and strategy but more oh some weird shit is going to happen here and you just shoot everything that comes at you.

But I loved the surprise gameplay moments. The crazy fan service. The bosses (except for the last) are top notch. The story is fun even if it is the rise of Skywalker of RE stories. It's a great time.

Need to replay it more times to see where I would rank it finally. And I will do a much bigger deep dive later.

Besides the fan service parts of the game, I think the story is a letdown and only raises more questions than answers. It's sad because I really do like playing the game but its short like RE3R. (I platted it faster than RE3R!) I was expecting an actual open world game with this title but sadly Capcom chose the rushed copout route yet again and not actually pushing the franchise in a bold new direction. Switching camera perspectives is cool but its something that should be expected, especially when games like Fallout have been doing this for over a decade.

But when it went full blown RE6 in terms of design... that's when the game was no longer hitting those high-highs - in being those specific parts you mentioned as being overly basic.

They were being very considerate to "fans" like you when they created Leon’s Raccoon City/Ark fighting sections. There’s natural downtime and each fight within the city has a different situation than the last one, and they brought back the idea of giving enemies certain weapons to compensate for the player’s power spike—And even in that instance, when they did tap in to RE6 moments, and there’s a lot of them, it never overstayed it’s welcome. Though personally I wouldn’t have minded more shooting sections.

They toed the line perfectly while appeasing to everyone at the same time and that’s worth some praise.

Finally finished the game on a standard classic playthrough and I thought as far technical achievements, overall gameplay design, pacing, control, and how it meshes Grace's sections with Leon's; this game is right up there with the best, maybe top 5 RE games for me and definitely in top 10 tier.

My issues with the game are with the story and the retcons that I feared Capcom was going to pull ever since 3make Jill showed up in Death Island. I won't get into that yet since I want to give people enough time to digest it all and it may require a whole other discussion because it's a lot!

Overall, a great entry!

I´ve diligently avoided to read and watch stuff concerning the game in the last couple of weeks, to avoid the spoilery content... And then the release date finally arrived, and while my initial plan was to complete my first campaign playthrough with an intermission (and two play sessions) the game got me so hooked that i couldn´t stop playing it, on my run i fired up the modern campaign.
If i remember correctly I started playing circa 11:00 am and had a blast playing it that i finished it in on long session, that probably lasted more than 16 hours, basically The whole night hours, and finish in the early hours of the morning.... even though i kind of usually don´t give much validity to the often skewed mathematics of review systems, i´d just have to applaud the developers for what they achieved here! Mr. X´s Hats off to them!!!
While i´m yet to go for a second run, the first one was enough to catch most of the secrets and easter eggs and i will now try to be a bit concise, so without further ado, i´d just say for fans of the Resident Evil games, do yourself a favor and play this game as soon as you can, you are in for a treat, and you won´t be disappointed!
Other than that i´d just say i´d really need to know what´s next, and hopefully if there is any DLC coming o feel they could add Ada somehow into the mix - that´s the only thing i´d nitpick, while its not a terrible omission, i do think The addition of Ada, would make the game even more fantastic than it already is, but i've seen some people talking that a few of Leon's quips in Requiem are lines said by Ada in other games!
Hopefully i´m getting back for the next weeks/month just to check out the discussions and the whole zeitgeist, but Cheers, and enjoy what its definetly one of the top gems in the history of RE games!

I let the story simmer a bit and have tempered my expectations. This is honestly a great RE game that serves as a course correction from RE8’s superpower Tim Burton direction. While it is flawed in some respects, I can get over its shortcomings because it hits those nostalgic high notes so hard I can’t help but love it. I wouldn’t place it higher than RE1-4, but it is a solid A ranking from me.

I'm in the middle of my 3rd run, where I'm having some fun with infinite ammo! Cruising around with infinite ammo in the Requiem puts a smile on my face

Now that the dust has settled a bit here are some thoughts about the game:

- The Rhodes Hill Chronic Care Center section is excellent and in my opinion represents what Resident Evil gameplay should be. Right up there with the Spencer Mansion and R.P.D. This is by far my favourite part of the game.

-
When you first turn on the power to the BSAA tent in the Raccon City outskirts it's an amazing moment.
I enjoy this section of the game too, but it feels like you're playing a different game. To be honest I wish they had just made 2 separate games. However Leon's system would be perfect for a Raid Mode looter shooter style DLC, and let's not forget that it was Nakanishi in Rev1 that originally came up with Raid Mode. I could see something like that happening instead of the usual Mercenaries bonus mode.

- Going back to the R.P.D after nearly 30 years was special and of course I had the Audio Pack so the classic music was playing transporting me back in time again. I was just a bit younger than Leon on his first day at the R.P.D and it hit me that all these years later I'm still almost the same age as Leon and we're both getting older. So Leon getting older and facing his mortality really hit me in a way I wasn't expecting.

- I have mixed feelings about the story. I really enjoy the nostalgia and connections to the classic era,
but I think how they portrayed Spencer fell a bit flat for me and there was a lack of explanation concerning the Wesker (imitation?).
I did like Victor Gideon and I am very glad how they handled the ending in that regard, just as long as you make the right choice.

Overall a fantastic game and I'm looking forward to whatever DLC they are cooking up!

Actually Morrowind did that whole 1st person and 3rd person switcheroo first....in 2002!

Probably before the average Requiem player was alive.

Anyway I am boycotting this "play it safe" piece of corporate vaporware until a year or so when Capcom does one of their megasales and this is on it. Every impression I have seen points to a overall lukewarm experience, despite a few high notes.

Now that I think on it, I probably will not pre purchase or day 1 purchase an AAA game ever again, as they are really starting to smell of designed in a boardroom and not by talented developers and Requiem appears to be no exception, and part of an overall trend when looking at the gaming landscape from the bigger picture.

Every impression? Including in the impressions thread you just posted in? There seems to be some very positive impressions in this thread and the overall reception to the game has been extremely positive. Steam reviews are Overwhelmingly Positive and the User Score on Metacritic is 9.5 out of 10.

If you want to be negative about the game you will always be able to find others who are negative too, but don't delude yourself into believing that this game is lukewarm.

Because Metacritic and a bunch of spoiled rich kids living in some suburb up-votting a game like this in online channels and review sites is analogous with something that is actually good quality and will stand the test of time.

People will look back 10 years from now and see Requiem as a truly Herculean contribution to the gaming landscape I am sure. A truly innovative title that sparked something ground breaking.

A masterpiece which took several years to find it's audience and inspired creative genius for years to come.

I didn’t get the idea they were 'playing it safe'. Requiem ain’t revolutionary either, but if they were any less tactful with Leon’s gameplay it could have weighed down hard on the game. And you’d see players saying stuff like 'oh this would have been great if it wasn’t for that side of the game'. But nah, it’s just an overall solid game on all ends.

A bunch of spoiled rich kids? The game has sold over 5 million copies, that's a lot of rich kids. :ROFLMAO:

I'm not rich and I think this game is pretty damn good. After a couple of replays, the hype has died down for me a bit though and I will say I'd personally probably rate it a 8.5/10. The story falls apart a bit towards the end of the game and there's a few sections that really drag down the replay value but it's far from a bad game.
