RE9 Evil Has Always Had A Name - Live Action Trailer

It's insane that a trailer is essentially better than any movie we got. Used to say the same about the Romero BH2 commercial.

Well it would be interesting to know who directed this seeing as they got Maika Monroe to be in it.

Edit: oh.... it's a music video / vfx guy now known for War of the Worlds (Amazon Ice Cube version LOL)

That was very well done and makes me wish we got a movie that focused on Raccoon City citizens during the early days of everything going to shit. You can hear Nemesis and spot his silhouette in that trailer when Maika runs outside of her apartment btw which is a neat easter egg. Seems like the last part of the trailer confirms not only does the ruins of Raccoon City still have zombies and most likely other creatures still roaming around that survived the blast but also soldiers trying to take control of it. The united states military? Blue Umbrella? The connections?

It's cool as a one-off promotion to build some hype, but I think a lot of people on social media are jerking it off too hard to this, like it's the best thing they've ever seen - assumingly because the bar for anything live-action RE has already been so low, including some fans' standards for what's expected out of RE media in general.

Honestly, why and how would a zombie still be walking around a desolate Raccoon City for nearly 30 years (if that's what's being implied), especially out in the open like that? I get they're trying to show that the infected in RE9 act on memories, but this was a bit of a stretch with how long it's been. Kinda corny. Can't take that seriously.

Visually, it was mostly done well - so I don't hate it. I do agree it's already better than any of the RE movies - but again, low bar. I just can't stand overpraise from the general population toward such things that are really just "OK" or passable, just because it isn't absolutely dreadful.

I still think Capcom and who they work with can step it up, and be more consistent with the earliest games' established lore and logic.

I think it's just an oversell to show the new zombies off, which admittedly was a bit corny, but you pretty much said it yourself. The bar is so low that people are overhyping it knowingly so just to show anything is better than what we had live adaption wise at this point. Here's to hoping the new movie is better.

An "oversell" is a good way to put it. That trailer isn't very serious. I just have standards for the quality of even the most "minor" things - which do matter when building a world/franchise. Look at what Halo did with 3 and ODST!

It's the context within the game that's going to matter. I'm really looking forward to it.

And that new movie, I'm kinda optimistic on. Depending on how it looks before it releases, maybe I'll actually go buy a ticket for the first time in years. I haven't bothered watching new movies at all for a long time, but I heard 'Weapons' was actually well done. The director being a 'Whitest Kids U Know' guy is what sells it for me. I think he's intelligent and aware enough to pull off the first solid RE film.

Potentially.

The trailer is pretty serious considering how b-movie alike the RE games from the Racoon City period are. Like we're pretending to be sad for a zombie now? I blasted so many of those guys without remorse and they left me notes about eating doggie food!

Even as a RE tie-in it just feels a bit lacking because it's just filmed on a volume. The new theatrical movie on the other hand has promise since it's coming from a real film-maker. Weapons was tonally appropriate with some laughs and a lot of weird disturbing moments.
