RE9 “Weskerrrrrr?”

Sorry for the horrible Barry Burton impression 😂 Hearing lots of yapping about Wesker potentially being mentioned in the trailer. I can see the resemblance perfectly, especially the Uroboros version.

It would be so amazing if they brought back Wesker or Spencer. I feel like the ongoing story of Resident Evil was never as good after they killed off Wesker and Spencer in RE5.
I'm really hoping Victor Gideon is working on bringing one of them back

Victor is wearing a snakeskin coat similar to RE5 Wesker and Ouroboros is a symbol of a snake eating itself. Coincidence?? Yes.

I want Wesker back too but I feel like him coming back in a game that doesn't feature Chris or Jill doesn't make much sense. I think they may save that if they ever follow up on the BSAA using Bioweapons plot they set up at the end of Village. That said, Victor is definitely wearing the same coat as Wesker so its very possible he's somehow connected. I think we have a higher chance of seeing Spencer come back this game. Capcom focused on him heavily in the road to Requiem video they released.

That's a good point if there is a "back from the dead" character it would more likely be Spencer.
We know that Nakanishi was working on Requiem at the same time as Sato was developing Village, so it's possible that the team that was working on Village is now working on RE10 and possibly the Chris, Blue Umbrella, BSAA plot. If Wesker comes back at all (I'm not counting Umbrella Corps), you're right it would more likely be there.

Rather than do the cliche thing and bring Wesker back, Capcom should just completely re-write 5 and 6 for their inevitable remakes and give the guy more development with his organization(s) and an actual respectable send-off.

Capcom's worst mistake was RE5's sloppy, rushed, dumb narrative as a whole - having Jill and Chris find Wesker in one of Spencer's many mansions without any lead-up, and then killing Wesker off in a fucking volcano. I still refuse to believe any of that bullshit is canon, including all the games leading up to RE7 finally stopping the bullshit and saving the series. People thought RE4 OG jumped the shark, but with 5 and 6, it's not even close to the damage those titles without Mikami did.

The REmake storyline will take precedence for me, without question, if Capcom finally rights their wrongs made in their prior mishandling of Umbrella and Wesker's end - but please, do NOT "bring Wesker back" when there's a chance to retcon the absolute worst era of the entire mainline series with these latest remakes.

Retcon, rather than "return" - then decide what to do with him from there, with new storyline/events that would still align with the narratives of 7, 8, 9, etc. for the future. If they remake RE1 (again), Code Veronica and RE5 correctly, there will be NO reason to bring Wesker back in order to satisfy fans who want more of his character. I'd personally even ditch all the bullshit in 6 completely, and make that Wesker's final appearance, by replacing whoever the fuck 6's random villain of the week was.

Fans know deep down that Wesker was given the shaft - his time cut short in the most braindead, un-survival horror-like way possible - and that's the real reason why they want him back so badly, but not as much as a regretful Capcom does, I'm sure...

I originally appreciated the idea of moving the needle story wise after a lack of doing so in RE4, especially when at the time we were looking forward to “taking down Umbrella” in the early RE 3.5 promo footage. But after the dust settled it was done horribly story wise and inside a soulless RE4 clone that outside of a few engine enhancements never came close. Fun videogame not a great Biohazard. 6 triple downed on that sentiment.

I don’t know about all that. They ain’t got to wait a decade or two just to bring him back—All the viruses that’s been seen in the games have a biblical level of power, it’s easy and nobody would bat an eye. And the best situations for a Wesker appearance will always be the games where you can smack around the enemies.

Who the hell do you think Wesker is? There’s no better way for a walking trope to die than in a game like 5/6.

I enjoyed Wesker as a character in RE5 I just didn't like that they killed him. Particularly after how great his character was in RE4R / Separate Ways, I realized how much the series was missing him. I'm definitely looking forward to how they handle his character in a potential remake of 5 (and Code Veronica), but he will inevitably die again.

I know it doesn't make sense for him to ever come back and I don't think he will but I would be on-board if he did.

ALL FACTS.

5 and 6 have some redeeming qualities when it comes to a very few specific things, but none having to do with being "good" Resident Evil titles.

RE5's cutscenes were very nice to look at. Whoever handled the cinematography did a great job, and presented the slop in the best way it possibly could have looked. I still think RE5 shows just how good the MT Frameworks graphical engine really is. It's a great looking game and I did enjoy its aesthetics. I believe any fondness that some have for 5, comes more from its presentation, rather than the quality of its story or its terrible level and overall game design.

I will also say that the backstory lore for RE5 was better than its main plot - being the only thing story-wise that I can compliment it on, with the origin of Progenitor and how it tragically affected the natives/Majini.

But Wesker (and even Spencer's) death, alongside Tricell's introduction/collaboration with Wesker out of nowhere, was a hard fumble. Between Code Veronica, 4 and 5, it became incredibly unclear who exactly Wesker was working with, and Capcom just eventually settled for Tricell - not really knowing how to progress the main plot forward at that point, so they decided to drop the ball/plot by killing the dude off, completely.

And I will say that RE4 was at least a self-contained diversion from the series' main narrative. Las Plagas aside, it didn't fundamentally change anything for the future of the plot, while still planting more seeds with Wesker's shadowy involvement for would-be future titles, which I liked. RE4's story on its own is still fun and interesting, but RE5 flat out KILLED all momentum the series had narratively built up to that point, for the reasons I stated in my last comment. RE4 might've slowed the main plot down, but it still didn't outright destroy all story progression that started with Zero/1 like 5 did. RE5 completely sabotaged everything while riding the coattails of 4, and 6 was just the insult to injury.

I fucking hate 5 and what they did to Wesker - then randomly giving the guy a bastard son in 6 that we knew nothing about before... which sabotaged Wesker's character even further, from beyond the grave. There's NO way Wesker would be interested in anyone but himself. He was WAY too self-obsessed and megalomaniacal to have those kind of interests to be sexually procreating. The way Wesker casted Excella (of all women) aside said that enough. Wesker would've cloned himself before he ever had a child. He was as cold as cold could be and hardly acted human. The fact that Capcom was trying to convince us that he had such interests, resulting in a child, was just narrative slop/fan-service at its worst - only because they wanted to keep Wesker "alive" in some way.

5 and 6 absolutely destroyed the series, especially the main plot - and it's nothing short of a miracle that we've had some great titles since then, especially with 7 and the 2 and 4 remakes.

Give Wesker and the Resident Evil series the major pre-7 retcon overhaul it deserves and so needs!
