In 1999 the Dreamcast was launched and not too far after that an exclusive Biohazard title was set to appear on the new console. It was definitely an event, to those faith full to the series and all gamers in general. This was the first next generation Biohazard title, set to use pre-rendered BG's and span two GD-Roms.

In 1999 a few screenshots were released, as a fan in the day I will never forget seeing them at some now abandoned low budget gaming site. It featured Biohazard 2's heroine, Claire Redfield. Unquestionable due to her Biohazard 2 top and wait, pink pants?

Yes, pink pants. This was the first build of Code: Veronica and these few images (to you're right) were stared at by many of us for endless hours, it's as if each of them brings back a story itself.

Only a few months later new images were released, this time Claire wearing her full Biohazard 2 suit. For obvious reasons it makes sense to have a fresh costume per game, though her Biohazard 2 suit looked awesome with next generation graphics, it would have been nice to see it show up as an un-lockable. Her costume is also one of the few things we have to go by on what a Biohazard 2 remake could look like.

Overall the amount of change wasn't drastic, though the images did have a different feel to them, enough to warrant some recognition.

Quick Look: Noteworthy Differences

  • Could change between the 1st and 3rd person on the fly.
  • Damage to clothing was apparent, not sure how it'd mend.
  • Claire wearing pink pants / Claire wearing RE2 costume.
  • Room details and very different enemy placement.
