Not too far before the release of Biohazard Code: Veronica, images scattered around the internet of a mock up box art for Biohazard 4 which appeared to be on the Playstation 2. As it turned out, these images like many others during the Biohazard timeline, turned out to be fakes. Biohazard 4 however was far from fake, being announced and said to be in production soon after these images scattered about.

The first build was never seen, aside from the mock up box art. It was later revealed by Mikami however, that the first project of Biohazard 4 was trying many new game styles. These newly developed styles however developed another project, entitled Devil May Cry. The demo of Devil May Cry was included with Biohazard Code: Veronica Complete and Resident Evil Code: Veronica X (5th Anniversary) in the United States. Many areas from the original Devil May Cry were said to be transformed a bit from the original build of Biohazard 4, thus enticing fans of the Biohazard universe to not only give this fresh new action game a try, but see what could have been.

In 2001 Shinji Mikami announced that the Biohazard series would be exclusive to the Gamecube, including the originally scrapped Biohazard 0, remakes of Biohazard, Biohazard 2, Biohazard 3: Last Escape, Biohazard Code: Veronica and finally the release of Biohazard 4. Only three of these six promised titles released in the form spoken above, Biohazard 2, 3 and CV were only ported not remade.

Less than a year after this conference, the first images of Biohazard 4 appeared. These featured Leon S. Kennedy invading Umbrella Inc. He was said to be infected and being chased by some sort of swarm. This was the second build, as the first turned into Devil May Cry.

One year after this build was shown, a scattering of new images and an official trailer hit at E-3. This time there was no swarm, though the setting looked somewhat similar. Leon S. Kennedy was still there, but instead of an infectious swarm a ghost-like hook man chased Leon through what seemed to be a hazy dream world. Dolls would attack Leon when in this state and he would seemingly have other illusions. A small font appeared on the bottom right-hand screen of his condition, which set up for the final builds life meters.

All together there were four builds of this game, including a version that turned into Devil May Cry and the final build. This is our modern Biohazard 1.5, yet another title for the Biohazard community to salivate over, with near no chance of ever playing. All we can do at this point is hope a demo is included someday in an upcoming title or bonus package of some sort.
