This is a sad day for zombie aficionados like myself.

Would I be right in saying there would be no 'Resident Evil' without George? I mean, he didn't invent the zombie myth, because that comes from folklore. But he certainly made it renowned among the fans.

The modern zombie is Romero's creation, and without that, we'd have no Resident Evil. We'd have no The Walking Dead. And it's not just those, it's anything that copied them or was inspired by them. It's not even just zombie fiction today, Hideo Kojima once said in an interview that Dawn of the Dead was one of the biggest influences for the Metal Gear franchise.

This loss will be felt by more than just zombie fiction aficionados.

Mikami was heavily influenced by Romero.

There may have been Resident Evil, but not the one we know today.

It wouldn't have had zombies and that's just a fuck no.

I think Bandage131 nailed it in his response.

Certainly a terrible day for horror fans. I now regret not meeting Romero rather recently when I had the chance, as I own some collectibles that he could have signed. I'm sure he was a wonderful guy, and from what I have heard that is absolutely true.

RIP.

Gimpy, I was in a zombie film last year called 'Redcon-1' which should be out on DVD this fall. It has a very 'Dawn of the Dead' feel to it. Although personally, I think European horror films are better made, like 'Zombi 2' by Lucio Fulci. They look like real rotting corpses due to their decaying flesh, torn clothes, and the fact they emerge slowly from the ground covered in worms. Some zombies movies in the US don't make them scary enough. There's also a really great British film called '28 Days Later' which isn't about zombies, but otherwise, the story is a lot like The Walking Dead, because a man awakens from a coma to go out looking for others. And one bite or scratch and you turn in seconds.

Cool You Died! Is there a YouTube clip of the part with you in it?

No, not yet. It's in post-production according to IMDb. I was in a scene with one of the soldiers. Epic Pictures are releasing it, supposedly this fall. It's gotten re-cut so many times, which is probably why it has been delayed. Here's some screenshots on this page, though.
