10 years after Raccoon City was stated by the Japanese developers during the Premium Party. So it's either a complete oversight on CAPCOM's part or they have re-retconned RE5's date to 2008.

2 to 6 online co-op? That's excessive. I think that might be something that is later adjusted. Unless the co-op is just a flat out survival mode that continues until you die? I can't see it though. I'm very interested to see how this plays out.

No it is prequel set in 2013. See in 2008 Leon hops into his time machine and travels to 2013 where he finds a world filled with BOW outbreaks, which is caused by the still alive Albert Wesker. The reason for this is Chris, who is no where near as buff as he was in RE5. Leon finds out that the reason Wesker escaped in 09 was cause a giant boulder blocked Chris' path, Chris was too weak to do anything about it.

So Leon travels back to 2008 and tells Chris that he needs to bulk up for his epic encounter with the boulder. Chris enters Rocky mode, trains for weeks non-stop on end and thus our version of RE5 takes place.
