I wished Alien Covenant had gotten stellar reviews like this!
To me that was a let down.
But then again, everything after Alien/Aliens is a let down to me in that franchise.

Except for games, Alien Isolation in particular.
I'm also a fan of the 2010 Aliens vs Predator game. Somthing about playing as a monster is so much fun.

Fyi, still haven't seen Covenant.

Btw, without giving spoilers, is it true Alien Covenant retconns Aliens? Because if it does, that would make it worse than Resurrection or AVPR, and make Ridley Scott the biggest...

Lately, I've been into Anime and the Japanese culture. I'm currently watching the Blu-ray version of Akira with the VHS version audio.

Blade Runner 2049.
Was an absolute masterpiece. It lives up to the hype and was at least on par with the original.
Great visuals and great food for thought, very smart script.
Something that is lacking in Hollywood nowadays.

I loved it.

Cult of Chucky!
Not a nearly as bad as Seed and Bride. Child's play was one of my most memorable horror movies from childhood (next to SCREAM) and this movie ranks after the first 2. The lowbrow comedy was kept to a minimum and a couple of lines were reminiscent to the original movie style. The kills were great and brutal, unlike the first 3 movies. I won't lie, looking back the original trilogy was ridiculous and hardly scary...but when I was a kid, it was the only thing that gave me a fear and that was dolls. Needless to say I was a stuffed animal kind of girl. Haha

I have yet to see Cult, but have you seen Curse?

Yes, it's better to watch Curse and then Cult since they tie into one another. Both are pretty good but Curse feels like a soft reboot and resembles the first Trilogy and nearly ignores the rest.

I actually love slasher movies! My Bloody Valentine Remake is a must watch
I also loved the Scream franchise as well as the TV Series... Sadly, the latter is about to get rebooted, it was so interesting, why do they cancel/reboot stuff without concluding the previous stories? What was the point of the last two seasons then? :frown:

I've seen Curse. If Cult is even better (not currently that big on Chucky's story, but it's fun, and I have fond memories as a kid watching him murder people), I'll have to check it out.

I'm a canon freak, so seeing things get retconned out is maddening, especially when it's unresolved.

80’s Slasher are my favorite film genre.

81’-82’ the untouchable years.
Studios were pumping one out a week but they were great.

All those films had likeeable characters.
You didn’t want to see them getting picked off - nowadays the films are populated by the most hateable cast of characters, one wonders how their even friends.

Child’s Play 1-2 are classic. 3 is fun.

The Bride and Child are lame.

Curse was good, return to form even.

Haven’t seen the latest one yet.

My favorite is classic, practical effects body horror. Alien/Aliens, The Thing, the first three Dead films...

I agree many characters are generic and dull nowadays. That, and many horror films now lack subtly, atmosphere, and anything truly disturbing. It's used to be excessive gore, now it's jumpscares with nothing else but fluff.
