I swear, the more I see Jill's new face, the more I keep seeing a very pale Sheva. Anyway, totally using Rebby.

I really hate the alt costumes for this game. Mostly because of how lazy they are. Barry's is just warrior chris recycled, Rebecca's is fairy tale sheva recycled, Krauser's is Heavy Metal Chris recycled, Claire's is just Business Sheva recycled with pants.

Chris, Jill and Hunk got new alts, fine, Wesker is just his end-game model minus the tentacles and metal.

It was just incredibly lazy all around to not bother to actually give the chars their own unique alts, but, to recycle Chris and Sheva's for the most part.

I might get my copy tomorrow. I know a game store that releases stuff early. It's the same place I got MvC3 4 days before release. They said they'd have Mercs tomorrow so hoping it's true and I'll be able to get it.

Got my copy of Mercs 3D today. It's pretty fun, it's basically what you were expecting, but, it does look a lot nicer in person than it does in the youtube videos.

The main flaws of it are the lack of quick turning without use of the touch screen (which make it a pain to do), and lack of being able to instant reload through the menu. It slows gameplay down a bit and leaves you open to attack in both instances. Regardless, I was able to get SS ranks with 240k scores either way despite those limitations.

Also, they removed the ability to converse with your partner. You can use the Thanks/Come On/Wait/Go commands and taunt but that's it. You can't reply to someone when they heal you or hand you an item like in RE5. Yo have to do it manually, and there's no more complimenting someone for a nice head shot etc. And there's no begging for help when you're in dying.

Sound overall is an issue with the game because of the 3DS' speakers I guess. Voices sound muffled and Claire for example sounds very weird and unlike Alyson Court until you really pay attention and realize it is her. Sound Effects on flash grenades, guns, explosions etc. are pretty crappy overall. They're missing the realistic depth to their sound and effects. Overall the sound is very dated.

Controls take some getting used to, especially if you're heavily used to RE5's mercs. But, they're not bad. I use Control Type D as it's the closest to the way RE5 plays overall. And if you don't mind using your thumbs for the touch screen instead of the stylus, playing in the menu can be pretty fast and fine overall.

The stats and level building are a fun little bonus that helps when things get a little crazy. Some of the levels have areas closed off like the Missile Area's left side is entirely shut off and inaccessible, which kinda sucks. And the lack of a Versus mode they originally promised also sucks. There's pretty much solo and duo and that's about it. And obviously, the only new additions are the RE4 levels and enemies, but, even though they're recycled from RE4, they still add some 'freshness' to the game after playing through the same stages for so long. It was nice to get treated to some RE4 levels and enemies like the Garrador as a boss etc. to change things up a bit.

Popokarimu showing up as a boss was cool too, even if he was made even easier than in RE5.

Overall, it's still a fun game. I don't feel it's some amazing game in it's own right, but, for what it is, a way to play current gen RE on the go in quick action packed doses, it does it's job reasonably well. Basically, it's portable mercs and doesn't strive to be anything more than that. And that's fine. Worth a buy in my opinion.

Removing Rebecca's flame spray and only giving her two guns while everyone else gets 3 though is rather...........odd. In any event, Pilot Chris > all. Definitely my new current fav.

^ So all the new additions and upgrade system doesn't make it feel more like a true game? That is what I am hoping for.

Anyway I get this tomorrow. Anyone else excited for this? This topic is dead.

No, it really is just a portable mercs and not much more. It doesn't feel like some amazing game in it's own right. It honestly is just a watered down version of Re5's Mercs. It's basically like they took RE4 Mercs and it's graphic engine and kinda wedged RE5 Mercs into that, both gameplay wise and graphics wise.

There's definitely a higher focus on melee in this one than in RE4's mercs sure, but, it's still very watered down and I find it far more similiar to RE4's Mercs than RE5's despite it's RE5 roots. The Skill system, leveling, and switching load outs between chars is more like gimmicks added in to make up for the watered down gameplay.

I mean don't get me wrong, the game is fun and not 'bad' by any means. It's just not something I would claim is 'amazing', and certainly not a reason for current hardcore mercs players to drop $250 on a 3DS for.

I only played the game for a total of maybe 3 hours and already beat all the missions and unlocked everyone. So if you're expecting it to have tons of content and an amazing new experience, you'll be dissapointed. But, if you just expect and accept that it's a portable version of Mercs with some limitations and some added gimmicks to account for the limitations, that you can play while on the go, you'll enjoy it.

Got the game today and just got a moment to play it a little bit ago. Overall I like it surprisingly. The graphics are a lot better then I was expecting (especially the demo of revelations which I LOVED)

The game itself fills like mercs. With a few extra stuff here and there. Like the skills. I feel like the entire first level is a waste though as it is just a tutorial and if you know RE at all you'll SS rank the entire level in 2 mins lol No joke.

My biggest grip with the game is I was confused as hell at first because I'm used to holding B to run. Apparently you don't need that anymore? Holding B makes you walk and just using the circle pad fully makes you run or lightly to walk. Takes getting used to but works. All other controls feel the same and work fine. Though there is a new addition where you can use A for quick healing which is a welcome addition in my book. Also, I like the being able to shoot and move thing a lot better then I though I was going to. It works great when in a pinch. I loved it in revelations as well. The FPS mode doesn't bother me at all either. Though it makes it hard to see if there is a enemy behind you.

Overall I like the game. It will be a nice hold over until I can get revelations and a good time to play with fellow 'haze members. But it's nothing too special.

Switch to Type D controls, it uses B to run, that's really the only change from Type A to Type D. It's what I use since I'm so used to holding a button to run in RE that it feels unnatural to allow them to auto-run lol.
