Well I love the NGP, and I'm pretty much committed to buy one but just because its easy to port PS3 games doesn't mean it made PS3 development easier. Although Sony has really stepped up with its support, its still an expensive process. The 3DS however is an extension of the same old Gamecube archetype, and on top of being a very familiar process Nintendo is offering even more tools to help development along, which overall makes it a very cheap. Thanks to this we'll see a lot of quirky third party games and more games taking risks on the 3DS, as well as a ton of general support. The NGP will get a lot of polished games, more "AAA" titles that have a longer development process. Not to say there won't be "AAA" titles on 3DS, or quirky games on NGP, just that based on the market this is likely to be the difference in software between the two. In short, we'll see more console-like games on NGP, and as the Wii gets left behind as a last gen console the 3DS will get more exclusive games that seem to fit only on a handheld.

Where does that leave us? Pretty much the same place we were in 2005, we've got a lower spec, cheaper handheld that is getting tons of support, and a higher spec piece of multimedia tech thats relatively expensive but has a nice mix of games and features.

They have different purposes, and personally I'm going to grab both because I don't want to miss anything.

R4 (Ridge Racer Type 4) is hitting PSN next month. Won't mind a digital copy of that gem and I certainly wouldn't mind Rage Racer either.

Such a shame that the series is turning into a NFS clone, done by a low key Euro developer no less.

God though, R4 had such a great soundtrack and for its time, great graphics and feel to boot:

I love you. Favorite arcade racer of all time. R4 will be a definite purchase as well though.

Rage is definitely underrated but loved for obvious reasons. Actually, the one "RR" games I'm missing are the ones for the systems I no longer have, namely the PSP game and RR6. Then again, those two including RR7 were essentially the same game, with 7 being the most complete version.

Despite being a PS thread, I so wanted Bizzare to make a MSR or PGR. Microsoft sucks for not buying them back.

Activision sucks more for closing them.

I don't think MS owned them before (?) MS let Bungie go so Bizzare never had a chance. But Activision is on a roll with studio closures and shelving a franchise so the lesson here is: never sell your studio to Activision. I mean, if IW wasn't immune to Kotick's antics and they created Activision's current cash cow, who is?

Thats the thing that surprises me about it is that Activision however thinks the "Infinity Ward" development branding of the Modern Warfare titles is key. Which is why when they've faced the troubles they have they have continued to restaff the studio rather than also shutter it's existance and move the existing staff with the new staff into a new branded development team to do the same job instead.
