Like the Japanese Horror Thread, this is for other regions of Asia who create similar horror films. We'll use this thread to once more share titles and build our viewing history.

Once more, I'll start it off with a very small list of a few that come to mind.

Gin Gwai (The Eye) - Hong Kong

Image

A blind girl gets a cornea transplant so that she would be able to see again. However, she got more than what she bargained for when she realised she could even see ghosts...

Shutter - Thailand

Image

A young photographer and his girlfriend discover mysterious shadows in their photographs after a tragic accident. They soon learn that you can not escape your past.

I like Ring, and The Eye. The original Grudge is not available in English yet, or maybe that was Juon. But I saw the American version with Sarah Michelle Prinze and it was okay. I also watched Audition, but I don't remember much about it other than that painful scene where the guy gets his eyes stitched together. You can clearly see a bit of influence in games such as Fatal Frame and Kuon.

Noroi: The Curse

I found this to be pretty interesting, it follows the style of the now cliché 'found footage documentary'. Although I found it to be pretty long and complex for a J-Horror film, there are many rules set within the universe of the film and having a main cast of over twenty five characters. That being said, I'm a huge fan of the 'Blair Witch Project' so I have to say Noroi kept me very interested from beginning to end. It's one of those films you watch that you would notice subtle little effects and visuals upon a second viewing, and the ending is unforgettable.

I heard it's pretty rare to find a hard copy, or it would at least cost a pretty penny, so I'd suggest using other means to get it, argh matey.

I loved the original Shutter, despised the remake; very chilling story about "attachment", you could say. Also wasn't there an English movie based on Gin Gwai? I could of sworn the plot was similar.

I've taken a fancy in Korean horror movies, lately:

The Red Shoes
Image
Based on the fairytale by Hans Christian Andersen. It kind of spans between being a psychological thriller and a vengeful ghost story about a cursed pair of women's high-heels that mysteriously causes some horrific murders. Why are women obsessed with obtaining these shoes? Be careful what you pick up that does not belong to you...let alone wear it.

The Host
Image
Not exactly as scary as it is more of a monster/bio-hazard movie, and a bit comedic at that.
An aquatic-like monster rises from the Seoul's Han river, attacking people and kidnapping a little girl.
As her family embarks on a journey to find and rescue her, they unravel a mystery about the government and military experiments.

Nice suggestions, both look good. Will definitely watch.

Thread revival, nobody else watches anything in this genre? Pfft...

Infection. This is a good Japanese movie I watched a while back. I recommend it.
