Sorry, from what? Biohazard? The opening intro is changed in the US and PAL versions, and scene with Kenneth was also censored. But that is fine to have in Japan. Which is generally backwards of the self-censoring made since.

Played the JP version a week ago and I was like wait...... I don't remember it being this violent lol Why they would censor it here in the US is beyond me

ESRB issues at the time prevented it. It wasn't that controversial back in 96 you might be surprised to find, mostly because most people didn't know that it was different. What actually made it more of an issue is when the Director's Cut got released. Capcom stated that they would provide the uncut opening and scene, even the publicity for the game mentioned it, but the final product still lacked it.

To make up for it Capcom put the uncut opening video on their website (QT format, like 3MB big, picture the size of a thumbnail back when that was good quality haha) and blamed a copyright issue from Sony in regards to why it hadn't been included, which Sony then turned around and denied.

This may or may not be Dino Crisis related.

If I buy an NTSC PS1 and I have a TV that supports NTSC, can I play imported PS1 (PSX) games?

If the games are NTSC localized to the US where the console came from yes. Otherwise a modified consoles will play legitimate games from any and all countries with the correct output on your TV.

I'm only after an NTSC PS1 so I can play CT II: The Struggle Within, and Parasite Eve. But none of the American eBay sellers are shipping to the UK.

I had the same problem over a decade ago... and I had copies of PE, CTII, and Silent Hill to play.

My original plan afterward was to get a PS2 because the backwards compatibility of it also would mean I could play Twisted Metal Black uncut and Devil May Cry in actual proper full speed (unlike the messy PAL port). But I never got around to it, and just brought a US PS1 cheap from someone locally who turned up on a local auction site.

Based on that I say scour the UK listings, you might find someone with a US NTSC PS1 or PS2. And quite likely in that case they'll also have the most important item with it already, a power converter. Otherwise if you brought a US console from the US, you'd likely have to go out and buy one additionally.

I came across a lead on eBay that converts NTSC to PAL.

That will be good for conversion to an older TV but only if your console is chipped to play NTSC titles. Otherwise the cable isn't going to help that because the PAL console is still going to refuse to place games from NTSC formats.

I realize that you'd still need a chipped console. Therefore I found myself an actual NTSC PS1 that will play on my TV. Seems like an extremely expensive if not a keen way to play NTSC games. However, I figured that without modding a PAL PSOne, which is not usually sold for legal reasons, then this was the closest / to only option I could come up with. Like I says, it's cost me a bit to get my dreams converted into reality, but if it works, I'll be very happy. Looking forward to testing it in a few weeks, too.
