Homecoming was good imo, just not great. When the series has had such great games, the slide towards somewhat .. mediocre is glaring compared to other series perhaps.

Im excited for the next installment though, perhaps even as they slide into mediocrity it'll be one of those series i always have the highest of hopes for being great once again.

That's rare, why did you dislike it?

I've taken a small break from Onimusha to play some Star Wars. Found a really cheap copy of Battlefront 2 on sale brand new for PC, my little brother broke my old copy so I had to pick this up. So I played all through Battlefront 1's campaign and then BF2's campaign again for fun, this makes me want BF3 so bad, if it came out it really could be the best game ever. I must do this yearly now. I love these games, but I need a new PC, mine broke a few weeks ago and I've been using a spare, it was freezing a lot even though these games are from 2004/5. So I want to get a new one but am unsure what to get. I've heard that old games don't work very well or at all on newer PC's. I usually only player older games on my PC, generally from anytime inbetween 1993 up to 2006. So if I bought a brand new stock PC would games from that era work fine on it? Also how much do PC's cost now? I checked about 3 stores the other day and only found laptops to gauge a general price from.

And back to games. I also played Motorstorm, it was fun.

I had more of an issue with the fact that it's a remake of then a 6 year old game. Like everyone else, I was anxiously awaiting RE4 after CV. What made things worse is that both Mikami and Okamoto mentioned that RE4 was going smoothly and on schedule (on PS2 no less). It was naturally a big lie given that shortly after that, DMC1 was announced and said to have been originally RE4. The remake/GC announcement later in the year basically meant that RE4 won't be seen for a long time.

The remake itself was fine but I still prefer the original by far. It's generally more challenging, particularly the arrange mode, and the robust scenario routes; I spent quite a bit of time back in the 90's getting all the possible cutscenes.

Given what happened afterward with the series, I've become far more appreciative of the game. It had everything the old series was know for in a nice package, and it was the last time a game in the series actually scared me. The road to the cabin through the woods, then the cryptic transmission from Wesker and Lisa's moan upon entering the area really had me going. I died the first time around thinking that she's beatable.

Anyway, all that talk about Onimusha persuaded me to replay the trilogy. Looking at Oni3, I have to wonder why the water physics in Capcom's current gen games stinks by comparison (not the shaders, just the physics). In fact, it's better than a lot of current gen games too.

Ah ok. I guess it would be like them remaking RE4 right now.

I finished Onimusha 2. I think it was a pretty fantastic and beautiful game. Far better than the first game too.
Spoiler:
Gogandantess is so cool, I love his over the top theatrics and Jubei's reactions to them. The only other character I played as was Oyu, I don't think I gave Ekei or Magoichi enough stuff when with them, but from looking at the end game status menu (or whatever it's called) it seems like the story branches of all different ways with different characters depending on what you do. I liked the story in this one a lot more than the first two as well, it made more sense. I want to play Oni 3 right now, but I don't have a copy of that so I'll have to track one down.

You just have to be super nice with everyone individually to get all the scenario routes. However, it is is possible to please all four and play as them in the same run.

Has anyone here ever played Star Wars: The Phantom Menace? The one based off the film? I think it's the best movie game I've ever played. I haven't tried Goldeneye yet but this is a fantastic game that holds up (for me at least) even now. I do a replay of it every year or so, I love the level design in this game, it's compacted full of hidden areas and secrets. So fun to explore. And it had a fully explorable city, well, two towns that you can run around and rampage and do whatever you wanted in 3D gameplay, two years before GTA3 came out. Sure there were no cars, but you could actually kill kids in this, IN A STAR WARS GAME! The guards would chase you around and send Bounty Hunters after you if you murdered people. It also has some cool role playing elements to it. It's like a platform/RPG/action-adventure/mini-sandbox game.

This summer I went from having nothing to play to way too much to play. Gamestop was running and is still running a buy 2 get 1 free sale. So I picked up Sonic and Sega All Stars racing, Lost Planet 2 and Sonic Unleased. Im also playing Shenmue on the side. Just finished Shenmue 1 and on to Shenmue 2x.

Yeh, i played SW: Episode 1 for PSX (still have it)
I found it to be a cool and challenging game. I tried beating it, but it would always glitch when I got to Naboo.
lol, i remember that my brother would always put in the cheat so he could get to the endgame missions. He would always play the one with Cpt. Panaka and Padme taking back the palace.

Has anyone played Star Wars Episode 1 Jedi Power Battles for PSX?
Me and my brother always loved playing that, GEX, and Sled Storm when we were bored during the summer.

I've been clearing out my games and selling whatever I had bought out of impulse or simply stuff that I won't be replaying in the future. I've only got two games on my agenda before I bid farewell to the hobby that's increasingly become a chore for the past 5 or so years. I probably wouldn't have enjoyed RE5 for example if it weren't for the series' legacy. I don't have the patience to play fighters because, simply put, online does not substitute the arcade experience; I suppose age and the community is a factor as well. The latter being a larger one and there isn't a good scene around here anymore.

So while getting rid of a few games at a vintage game store downtown, I found an old PS1 (SCPH-5501.. the last audiophile desired model) in a good condition for mere $10. Upon cleaning and testing the thing, I ended up replaying a few games. I had forgotten how much better the games looked on the original hardware compared to PS2/3 emulation, particularly via a well shielded Monster S-video cable (yup, they do make a difference particularly with colours and audio). I'll be replaying DC and DC2 before I pack things up. I know the latter had some FMV and loading issues on the PS2.

For those unfamiliar with the PS1 output issues on latter consoles, the picture is incredibly sharp and the colour suffers a bit as well. It's not unlike the PS2 picture quality on the 20/60GB PS3's when the system launched in 2006.

The games I have left on the agenda are RGG4 and Batman AA's sequel. Beyond the smoother playing demo of the former, is the game better than RGG3? I enjoyed it a lot but there were a few notable dull parts that broke the flow.

11 years, I've never met anyone else who's played it. This is momentous.

I used to hate Theed Gardens and City when I first played it, it was so hard because of the Destroyer Droids, but now I love it. I can complete the game in about a day now and it's easy for me. What was your favorite level? All of them were so different which was great. I loved running around exploring Mos Espa Markets, and the Pod Race Stands. The Coruscant Level was also really cool, I liked going into the under city. Reminds me of Knights of the Old Republics under city which was even cooler.

Have you played the Revenge of the Sith game? I always thought about buying it but never did. I wonder if it's as good as The Phantom Menace.

Yeah I rented Jedi Power Battles, I think it was even harder than TPM I never got to finish it.

And on topic. I played all through Halo: Combat Evolved for the first time, since it came with the Xbox I picked up, I figured I should play it. Enjoyed it a lot more than I expected, and can definitely see why people like the series so much. And unlike most shooters, it felt like it had aged pretty well too.

Spoiler:
I was surprised this game had a story and characters, and was surprised it wasn't to bad either. Cortana was awesome and felt full of life even though she's just a AI, really liked her character, and I liked Guilty Spark too. I enjoyed all the cutscenes with them. Wish there had been more cutscenes though. I liked the unveiling of The Flood too, the game got a lot more interesting from that point onwards. The part where you escape into the swamp with a platoon of marines, and then The Flood swarm and pick your men of one by one, and turn them into mutants who then attack you reminded me so much of RE. I'd love an RE game in first person, in a city/country area with a whole group of survivors moving through an area, getting picked of by Zombies and turning against us.

I'd played it before at friends places but only split screen and when the game was still fairly new. There needs to be a bit more direction though, a map or a marker point. Since the levels are huge and sandbox-like, sometimes you just have to wonder around for a bit. Also reuse rooms less. But other than that it was fun, and the grenades are so awesome to use. Will definitely buy Halo 2 sometime soon.
