I've been playing Red Dead, it's a good game but not without flaws. Lately it's been really pissing me off. I hate the death and respawn system in this game. I wasted a whole lot hours of time exploring the land and collecting many things, only to be killed in a random encounter and lose everything because the game just reloads the last time you saved in a safehouse, and autosaves don't happen frequently enough. It's almost game breaking for me. Why on earth did they just not implement hospitals like GTA does. I just rage quited my game after I wasted another bunch of hours exploring all of Tall Trees and Great Plains for the first time only to be killed, just before entering my safe house. I lost everything  It just ruins the magic of exploration and fun when you have to re-explore the entire map again because some stupid Ninja animal killed you from behind.

Other than that major flaw, it's a pretty nice game. The land is beautiful and there is a lot to do. I just finished all the main missions in Mexico. I take back what I said before about this being as good as the GTA3 trilogy though. It's good, but not as good as those three masterpieces.

Edit: I went back to it and just campfire saved often. New Elizabeth is a beautiful location, but very dangerous. Got attacked by Grizzly Bears multiples times.

So I finally gave in. For months now just about everyone I know (that plays FPS') has told me I NEED to play Battlefield Bad Company 2. I have been trying to stay away from shooters since I have always tended to gravitate towards them and miss out on great games outside of the shooter world. Second reason I decided to ignore the word of mouth was simply, I hated the first Bad Company. It was another missed attempt at making a great BF on a console, sure it wasn't as bad as others but the first thing that stood out was the guns just didn't feel right. If you make a FPS and can't get the guns to feel right you failed and failed badly.

So the other day I was feeling the need to deal some headshots and the like so I said screw it and I picked up BC2. Now anyone who plays military shooters knows what to expect, a straight forward go here shoot this campaign and some fun multiplayer action. They are all pretty much the same. Well Bad Company 2 has blown me away, I have spent most of the time so far with the campaign. So far this is easily the best military shooter campaign I have played in some time. The last one that struck me this hard was, shit the original Ghost Recon on PC. When did that come out again?? Damn that was 2001.

BC2 excels on so many levels (campaign-wise) first the opening is thrilling it hooked me immediately. Which shocked me since the first mission takes place in WW2 and we all know how stale WW2 has become. But this mission was so well done plus the story is intriguing. Now lets jump ahead to a level called Snowblind which cemented this game as awesome. It is rare when a seasoned shooter vet like myself is taken back by a fresh take on conventional shooter elements. Explosive barrels have been around since the dawn of the FPS and they have been used to blow things up, kill enemies but I have never come across a game that you used the explosive barrels to make a fire to keep your self warm so not to freeze to death. Snowblind was a fantastic experience, you are heading down a snowy mountain to regroup with your squad and a storm rolls in. You have to go house to house to stay warm or you will freeze to death in the cold, the wind is blowing visibility is low and you are being stalked through the storm by enemies. A little ways down the mountain I came across a quite long gap between houses, I would not of made it across the way to the next house then the iconic red barrels caught my eye. I squeezed off a few shots from my rifle to ignite them and ran to the cover near by. The fire kept me warm until it was time to move to the next destination.

The other highlight of the campaign so far [SPOILERS]was when the pilot of your chopper gets captured by the enemy. your squad is ordered to pull out and go back to base. of course they ignore the order to rescue their friend.[END SPOILERS] The thing that struck me was not the cliche story telling but the fact that when you are going toward the base you hear him screaming in pain and then hatred and anger filled me. I was determined to fight through the waves of meaningless soldiers and save the pilot, my friend. I was shocked by this because I was not expecting to get so emotionally attached to characters in what I expected to be a by the numbers military shooter campaign.

So if you read this whole post, thanks if you didn't that's fine. I am floored by this game, there is now a new standard a new benchmark for me to hold ALL SHOOTERS to. I am expecting an epic conclusion to this campaign, hopefully I am not disappointed. I will say that this will not be a campaign I will soon forget. Every stage has been epic and there is tons of variety to be had. The story is half way decent, its not really a story driven experience but there is enough story to satisfy me and keep me firing through the waves of enemies.

Buy this game!

Been playing an RPG known as Enchanted Arms.

It's kinda repetitive gameplay wise, but the characters, golems, and story more then make up for it. I keep wanting to know what will happen next. It's got alot of good lessons in the story to.

I also just picked up Red Dead today, I've never played a rockstar game before because I hate GTA, but the premise of this one interested me and I really like the free roam option. I need to make a possee.

I'd attempted Silent Hill: Origins a few days ago. Got lost in that large rat maze of a place that begins with an S. You touch the mirrors and the place goes rusty and weird and you spend ages looking for stuff. Gave up on it eventually as it pissed me off.

Moved on with Homecoming. Again, it pisses me off, but it ain't too bad yet. I'm at the part where you solve a puzzle involving a coffin. It is right after speaking to that man in the junkyard where you get the pistol, and these annoying monsters shoot smog on Alex. And that chick is pinning fliers to a billboard. Hello! Who gives a damn? =)

I just finished Red Dead Redemption.

Spoiler:
The ending was spectacular.

John getting killed, and then the game skipping ahead until Jack was all grown up, and you play as Johns son hunting down his fathers killer. That was brilliant.

I liked the story and the characters. Still not as good as the GTA3 trilogy but a very good game nonetheless. But it has some major flaws however. I'd give it maybe an 8.5/10.

How about explaining the score and enumerating the flaws?

I genuinely want to know.

I'll give you my take. The common complaint that pops up is the somewhat disjointed story in addition to a few anti-climatic moments that will have you scratching your head hard. As far as gameplay and overall experience goes, the only annoyances I've found was ninja bears and relative lack of challenge. There are the occasional bugs you'd find in open world games too, but overall it's a technically competent game even with the platform differences much like GTAIV. It's a R* game so some slowdown is a given.

However, the overall experience is stellar, and I've never been a fan of GTA. If you like westerns at all, you'd be in heaven because of the overall presentation and there are enough random events that make the world alive. Of course, the lighting, weather effects (the best thunder/rainstorms ever IMO), and the audio design are impeccable.

It's a 9/10 from me.

Actually the 360 version has alot of bugs too, some say more. Search them on YouTube its hilarious. Theirs alot for both systems. Just generally, the game is probably the worst Quality Assurance nightmare ive ever seen. For such a damn fine game its a shame.
This is one for the 360 thats hilarious.
