Was wondering earlier what impact the game's DLC has made to the game for me. For all it's faults, Resident Evil 5 has always been a good solid 8/10 for me and i had hoped things might change, and i think they have.

Both expansions are amazing i think for totally seperate reasons, and when you figure in the new figures, new costumes, Versus mode, and completely revamped Mercs Reunion that i haven't even touched, the package as a whole definitely goes upto a 9/10...possibly rising to a 9.5 after a while!

It's no Resident Evil 4, but in the end i'd happily admit it came quite close! Admittedly, there's even a bunch of things in RE5 that i'd love to see in RE4.

RE5 alone was 9,5/10 for me, but now after this DLCs I think I have to give 10/10. LIN is amazing nostalgic trip and DE is a great action scenario.

RE5 Gold Edition is now my favourite RE title

Yep. It was already way better then RE4 to me, and now it just blows it out of the water. I now almost enjoy RE5 as much as I did Outbreak, almost.

I always considered RE5 a 9.5 level game, a serious GOTY contender and a worthy sequel to what I feel to be one of the very top greatest games of all time. This stuff is just icing on a great cake.

No, because in my mind DLC doesn't count towards the actual game. Certainly not when released nearly a year after the game itself. Not to mention the DLC isn't even as substantial as the Separate Ways addition to RE4's later editions, and I don't count that either.

So no, RE5 remains an 8/10 for me.

I always loved RE5 too, although it was not perfect. It was a strange experience playing LIN then moving straight onto the main game. I think if I were playing it for the first time I would have found the sudden change in pace and setting a bit frustrating. Suddenly losing Jill for Sheva, switching a creepy mansion at night for the bright sands of Africa and also the paranoia of being hardly any enemies to there suddenly being hordes. It comes as a bit of a jolt, even when you are expecting it. It also makes you realise just how long the game takes to get going. You have all the 'Wesker Children' sub plot stuff at the start, then the game completely changes and in all honesty the plot doesn't really get going again until 5-1.

Desperate Escape does a good job of fleshing out the game's climax. To me it always felt a little rushed how you don't come across Wesker at all in the game until the end of chapter 5-3 then before you know it, the game's over and done with half an hour later. To get it as chronologically as close as possible. I played through chapter 6-1 and 6-2 then saved and switched to Desperate Escape before rounding off 6-3. It's a good fit and adds to the sense of urgency as you head towards the climax of the game. Unfortunately the impact of DE makes the already poor 6-3 chapter even more of an anti-climax in my opinion.

Overall I'm happy with both new episodes and they add to what was already a great game. I'm glad people seem to be re-evaluating their original opinion on it.

I'm not talking about the game, i'm asking about the package.

Regardless...how could DLC "not count"?

I love the expansions as they give you both the original and new aspects of the franchise. LiN giving us the old horror atmosphere where ammo was scarce and fighting the enemy was a good challenge while DE is more the now RE games, action oriented. The Mercenaries Reunion is awesome I love the characters no one seems useless (except for Rebecca) I love how it varies from the old Mercs and it not just being the same thing with different characters. It is definitely easier than the old Mercs though the boss enemies seem to be able to take less damage
