PROLOGUE: Eye of the Dragon
The air in the underground facility is especially cold. Wesker notices, but doesn't mind. A man with a heart of ice can tolerate a slight dip in temperature. The lab technicians had to be...silenced, so he is all alone in the cool, dark room. The only illumination comes from a single lit up computer terminal near a large metallic chair in the uppermost corner of the large room. Wesker walks over to it and sits down. He speaks into a microphone near the monitor. "Lights".
The overhead lights flash on in an instant, filling the room with a white, flourescent glow. The entire room is filled with stasis tubes, 32 in total. Albert Wesker smiles to himself as he walks amongst the tubes, gazing at their contents. Each tube contains the body of a young man, each completely identical, as if they were all cloned from the same source. The unconscious bodies float silently in their tubes, their eyes shut to the horrors committed around them.

PROLOGUE (cont.)
Their heads are shaved, and multiple electrodes are attached to their scalps. Wesker looks at them and smiles. "My precious little playthings..."
Wesker walks to the center of the room, towards a tube different from all the rest.
Within this one floats the body of a young woman with blonde hair. Wesker looks at her fondly, smiling. "It'll be time for you to awaken once again, my little doll. My, if only William and Annette were here to see you now..."
Wesker walks back over to the main computer terminal where he issues another directive. "Calibrate #42."
A stasis tube with the number 42 on it begins to glow. The tube's occupant begins to go into REM's. The liquid begins to drain from the tube, and the young man's eyes snap open...

NEXT MONTH: In downtown NY, Claire Redfield has just attended a joint meeting between the DEA and the BSAA. Following the WilPharma bioterrorism incident, Claire has been working closely with the organization that her brother had helped form.
After the meeting, on her way back to her hotel, Claire senses that she's being followed. When she turns to look back, she sees someone who she never thought she'd see again...

Hmm, seems intresting so far, when I saw that you had posted a story I found it only fair to comment on it as you did for my story.

Claire's Diary- March 20th, 2007
The nightmare that I survived 9 years ago in Raccoon City seems to be destined to repeat itself. Ever since the fall of Umbrella, other corrupt corporations have seemingly strived to pick up where they left off. Ex-Umbrella employees who had managed to secure samples of the viruses joined new corporations, while some tried to peddle the viruses on the black market to the highest bidders. The results were devastating. There was the WilPharma incident in India, which was just a precursor to what happened in that airport 2 years ago. Two years ago, I had to relive the nightmare of Raccoon City, something that, after my ordeal on Rockfort Island, I'd thought was forever put behind me. But it's funny how the past comes back to haunt us.
A man named Frederick, a high-ranking WilPharma executive, decided to stage a bio-terror outbreak, in a twisted sales pitch to a Nicaraguan militant by the name of General Grande. Frederick found a willing accomplice in a man named Curtis Miller, who lost his entire family in the Raccoon City outbreak. Curtis was driven by revenge, the sorrow of his loss eating away at the very core of his being. He wanted the names of U.S. government officials who had funded Umbrella's viral research to be released to the public. Frederic betrayed Curtis, however, and Curtis decided to exact his revenge in his own personal way, by injecting himself with the G-Virus. Leon and I managed to put a stop to the outbreak, but not without great loss.
WilPharma went the way of Umbrella after the scandal was made public. The newly emerging pharmaceutical company, Tri-Cell, bought out WilPharma, employing 60% of their research staff. Umbrella...WilPharma...Tri-Cell...This ominous ladder of succession.
There have been other instances of bio-terrorism following the airport incident, particularly in impovershed countries in the third world, but nothing that can be linked to Tri-Cell in any way. Still...I believe we must be suspicious, we must be ever vigilant, if we are to stop the nightmare from ever occurring again.
Working with TerraSave, I've been assigned to a branch office of the DEA operating out of N.Y.C. Lately, my office has been working closely with the Bio-terrorism Security Assessment Alliance, an organization which was established in response to the continued bio-terror outbreaks following the Raccoon City incident. The agency was partially founded by my brother, Chris. I thought my new assignments would bring us closer, but...
We're in charge of monitoring corporations like Tri-Cell which are conducting viral research within US borders. We're currently in the process of trying to pass a law through congress which would drastically limit the amount of viral specimens a corporation would be allowed to possess. Thanks to Leon, we already have President Graham's approval. Also, thanks to Leon, I finally have a lead on something I've been searching for for the past 9 years. The government agent who took Sherry into custody, Nathan Cartwright, disappeared along with Sherry 9 years ago.
His name recently turned up on a roster of participants engaged in bio-terror military preparedness exercises in South America. It's a thin lead, but it's all I have.
Sherry...I'm almost in tears as I write this...
I'm so sorry. Just to think of you, all alone in this world...I will find you, Sherry. I'll keep my promise.

Based on some...uh...info, it seems that Sherry Birkin will NOT be in RE5. I felt that hers is a story which needed to be told, and, what the hell, if nobody else was going to tell it, I'd do so myself. I promise many satisfying plot twists to this tale that I shall spin, and I hope all of you will enjoy it immensely. Chapter 1 will be up as soon as I find the time to type it; probably in about a week. It picks up right where Claire's diary leaves off. The identity of #42 will be revealed (although I'm sure some of you can guess). 'Till then, take care!

CHAPTER ONE:Past Resonance
The woman with the red hair walks along the docks. There is something familiar about her, the young man thinks, but he can't quite place it. Inexplicably, he is drawn to her. The young man watches her for a while. She sits down on a bench and opens her handbag, pulling something out. She's eating something. A pain of hunger strikes him; he would like to eat something too. He looks at her for a while, mesmerized by the sight of her. Then she does something that startles him. The woman with the red hair turns and looks directly at him. He quickly turns and begins to walk away, pulling the grey hood he is wearing tighter around his head. He should go, he thinks to himself. Find someplace safe to hide. What if she wants to send him back to that terrible place? During the days he spent traveling aboard that freight ship that he stowed away on, the young man swore that he'd never go back. Still...he can't stop watching her. He decides to stay back and watch her from a distance...
After her meeting, Claire Redfield decides to take a walk down by the piers. Spring came early this year, and the early evening air is pleasantly mild. Claire finds a bench and takes a seat. She's got a lot on her mind, and figures that the fresh air will help her think.
"Chris...", she thinks to herself. "Why are you so distant? You're so absorbed in your work, you hardly ever talk to me. You don't return my phone calls, and the only e-mails you reply to are work related. If only you'd just let me in; tell me what you're going through. You're acting just like you did back then, before you left Raccoon City. Please, Chris, don't disappear on me again..."
Claire pulls out a file from her handbag and opens it, looking at a list of names on a printout. The heading on the page reads: Luz Nueve Enterprises, Bio-Terror Military Preparedness Exercise, 9/12/06, Caracas, Venezuela. The 11tlh name on the list is Nathan Cartwright.
"Hmm...", Claire thinks to herself. "Luz Nueve...I've never heard of a corporation by that name before. It's gotta be a front for some other organization. And the details of this operation are highly reminiscient of the training missions conducted by the U.B.C.S. I can't go through official channels and launch an investigation. Leon really put his ass on the line to get me this info, and the whole thing reeks of an international conspiracy.
I guess I'm on my own with this one. If I'm going to get any new leads on Sherry's whereabouts, I'll have to play this very carefully..."
Claire reaches into her handbag again, this time pulling out a bagel with cream cheese. She had bought it for lunch, but didn't have time to eat due to the urgency of the meeting she had to attend. She takes a bite, savoring the taste. She hears the sound of automobile tires screeching in the street far behind her, and turns to look. That's when she sees him. A young man, wearing a grey sweatshirt at least 3 sizes too big, the hood pulled down tightly over his head. He's wearing a pair of tightly pressed black slacks that look completely out of place with the sweatshirt. The shoes on his feet are mismatched, each from a different pair. She looks at his face with a look of suspicion. He's staring straight at her. Claire scowls at him angrily. The young man gasps, turns quickly around, and walks towards the street.
Something about the young vagrant disturbs Claire. She focuses on his face in her mind's eye, and it hits her. A bolt of recognition. Her stomach tightens, as a wave of anxiety grips her. She stands up and throws the rest of her bagel in a nearby garbage can. Her heart begins to pound.
"It can't be...", she thinks. "I saw him die 9 years ago..."
Claire's mind flashes back to that fateful day on Rockfort Island. That horrible tentacle piercing into his flesh, and his last words: "Claire...I love you." He died, saving her. Claire's voice is choked with tears as she speaks his name. "Steve..."
Then she hears another voice in her head, dark and sinister: "Maybe he'll come back, like me, to see your sister again."
Claire stiffens, looking urgently every which way, trying to catch a glimpse of the young man in the hood. "I have to find him", she thinks.

TO BE CONTINUED...

Thanx. Glad you enjoyed it.

In about a week, I'll have up Chapter 2: Escape. This will be the detailed account of how the 42nd clone of Steve makes his escape from the facility in South America. In Chapter 3: Cocoon, exactly what is "special" about Sherry Birkin will be revealed...
