I'm considering trying Fallout: New Vegas, if only Bethesda can make a product that doesn't freeze up every five minutes and isn't riddled with glitches.

IMO Fallout 3/NV were kinda bleh, I'm waiting for Skyrim, but Dark Souls is keeping me very happy until then.

Aside from the SHIT ending and all the damn bugs, Fallout 3 is one of the best RPG's I've ever played.... Never bothered with NV, the sour word of mouth turned me away from it... not just talk that it was glitchy as balls, I also heard rumors that it caused PS3's to yellow light. =/

There always seem to be rumours about games making the PS3 YLoD or whatever. I had a try at Fallout 3 about a year ago now but I just couldn't get into it, I prefered Oblivion much more. Not that I finished either, I'm more a fan of your old traditional turn based JRPG's.

Xenoblade is one I've never tried either, but I've heard it's good. I do have Digital Devil Saga (1 & 2) and Persona 3 & 4 which I bought a while back that I haven't fnished yet. I like the system but I'm new to the games and I just haven't gotten around to really playing them yet.

I do have Resonance of Fate for PS3 as well, this is one game that, no matter how hard I tried, I just could not get in to at all. There's just something about it that stops me playing and I don't know what it is. I think the reason I never play any new games is because I always end up replaying my old classics instead.

I have decided to revive this thread for reasons to be explained.

For my birthday, one of my friends decided to purchase for me Chrono Trigger on the DS. When I first saw it, I was thinking "Meh." I wasn't too enthused about the characters, even Marle, the type of character I normally fall for immediately (the perky archetype, eg Meru, Rikku, Yuffie, etc). The only character I even slightly liked was Lucca. However, my impressions of the game rapidly began to change.

Firstly, the battle system. I personally think that it's fantastic. I find it to be very timing specific, and very strategy oriented. I also thought that the cross-tech system was very innovative. I'm quite a fan of that too. Honestly, the first part of the game I liked.

Secondly, the characters. At first, I found them to be bland. Chrono = typical starting hero, Marle = perky girl & Lucca = machinist. They didn't really have all that much personality. However, they began to grow on me, although I still don't really like Ayla (beserker. Small tangent: why did they feel it necessary to make Ayla speak like an idiot. She's from prehistoric times, not from some Idiotland) , Frog (Samurai, I think) or Robo (Robot. Big leap, I know).

And finally, the story. It had the typical RPG start, meet up with some stranger, choose their name, small adventure. But then I found out (at the King's court) how your decisions matter. I was asked "Did you care about her wealth? My reply was no, but then a flashback cued, to me running straight over to her necklace. Are you a nice person? Yeah. Cue flashback of me eating some old guys regenerating lunch. Another example of your actions carrying on is the Mayor at Porre. If you gave the woman you meet in 600 AD the Spiced Jerkey for free, the Mayor is known for his generosity. If you make her pay, he's a miser. I thought that was excellent

Currently in the story I just (major spoilers)
Spoiler:
Saw Chronos get vaporised like a sample in a mass spectrometer, and Magus just joined my team. I have no complaints with the story, other than forcing you to use characters. Hint, hint Ayla. I want my two mages, not a beserker.

Overall, an excellent game so far. I thoroughly recommend it.

Pretty much every JRPG forces you to use certain party members during the course of the game before it opens up. Besides, Ayla's arguably the best character in the game, combat wise.

But yeah, CT is a well thought out and designed game. It's a classic for a reason.

Anybody else hyped for PSO2? I'm going to participate in the second closed beta this weekend, but open beta is supposed to be right after that unless something catastrophic happens.

I've been anticipating it, but I keep forgetting to keep my eye out for the playable beta, because of being wrapped up in other games at the moment. I will try to make sure and get into the open beta when it comes around.

I will say, speaking of Phantasy Star, it's probably the only game I've gotten into where I will play a magic-based Elf-like class(Forces) over any other(Cast Rangers are second on my list). I don't typically care for mages in other fantasy-themed games, but PSO is "Speculative Fiction", and well, it's a fantasy that takes place in a future age. Compared to Western fantasy, Japanese games tend to explain magic with alchemy, nano-tech, or convertible ether energies.

And since we are in the topic of RPGs, I'd recommend Dragon's Dogma to everyone. There is well past 70-80 hours that can be put into this game(which doesn't count all the new stuff in New Game Plus). Multiple endings, which the finale is completely mind-blowing. And in reference to that, what is Capcom's obsession with Ouroboros(the continuing cycle) lately?
The way the endings are achieved reminded me a lot of Chrono Trigger in certain aspects.
I'd really wish Resident Evil could go back to having alternate endings, or multiple playthroughs to achieve various ending stories.
