^ talk about overkill! Releasing it the same day a AC3? i never want to hear someone accuse Capcom of milking resident evil. Ubisoft is milking this franchise until it's completly dry and run into the ground.

SH Collection FINALLY got a patch. Preliminary impressions point to various fixes, including fog that doesn't look like a pixelated mess etc.

ALSO, MGS4 is getting a trophy patch in August. Go figure.

The PAL patch for SH HD is smaller than the US one since the former got a few "fixes" on disc from the get go. At any rate, I'm happy to say that the games are now playable with no noteworthy frame rate issues. It's mostly capped at 30fps instead of the original state of unlocked frame rate that fluctuates between 30-60fps (albeit with heavy slowdown). No more constant stuttering.

Aesthetically, the clean looking streets are still there but the fog is much much better, though still not on par with the original version. Haven't seen any other improvements but can't comment fully since I never finished either game in their original states. Audio quirks are fixed and some bits are back like the foghorn.

I'll say that I'm satisfied overall so if you can find it at a bargain price, go for it. Purists will still prefer the original PS2 versions, but hey, this isn't so bad with wide screen support.

Now for that Downpour patch...

 It's a fucking brilliant franchise. I'd understand the reservations if it wasn't.

Well, that's good to know. I've actually put off buying this collection becuase of all it's "issues". I've never played SH 2 or 3 so this was something I was interested in.

If you do get a chance to play it let me know if the PS3 version loses the censor they had over a certain "mature" scene involving a pyramid.

That part is fixed too, and lip-syncing is better too but that infamous "fogless water" scene is still lacking since the fog density isn't quite perfect. Rombie should post his impressions soon regarding SH3.. that one was a bigger mess IMO.

It wasn't a censor, it was just the load stream cut off most of the shot starting the cinematic before taking the loading off (every time you go into the room the game runs a fade up from black unless told not to, and they forgot about it not being needed). But yeah, as SG said it's fixed as well.

I played through the entire SH2 game from start to reaching the hospital, then loaded up a few old saves from when I went through the game several times earlier. The results are clearly an improvement over the previous work but there is still several issues that the purists are going to hate.

Firstly, frame rate (and I hope bug fixes) were the main goal. As SG already noted the frame rate is a much improved but not entirely gone issue. What I am interested to note however is that while the outdoor frame rate is right 85% of the time, interiors seems to now be super smooth and fast - and it's drastically noticable when you go from one to the other.

Audio has been improved in that things which weren't working have been fixed, such as the scream in the apartments which was almost unnoticably quiet (and locked to one channel direction of audio). I haven't been able to check from not having a save near to it, but I figure the missing horn sound when you go from the Historical Society to the Prison probably got fixed, as well as some missing music in the endings. The audio quality isn't going to ever change due to it likely being the files on disc, so the weird metallic sound with things like the chainsaw and breathing haven't been fixed. And the 5.1 mix is still screwy, although SG probably can say more about that.

Fog is, as SG also noted, a mixed but improved event. The mess is gone but hanging squares of fog is still apparent a lot of the time. The wall is still visable, and the first major telling sign is when you arrive in town and the first enemy in the fog is still obviously clear, but at least they tried to fix it.

The cutscene with Maria has been fixed however, well mostly... one shot looking down still shows that the scene doesn't have as much fog as the original ever did, but it now doesn't look like there is none and objects are no longer just cut off but do disappear into the fog.

I had a save on the boat ramp, and that too was a mixed bag... the water texture during the cutscene has been removed at first, but then as James rows further away the water texture kinda goes back to the weird one it used to be and the edge of the map seems still visable. And no fog has been added during it. But the area in actual gameplay, like the rest, has had more fog around.

I'm running out of time before I go to work to try SH3 properly other than to load it up and see some improvements in frame rate and fog again. I read a brief comment from someone who played that first saying the lipsync is improved but not perfect depending on the cutscene. Guess I will find out when I go further into it. Will do so tonight when I get home.

I'm just hoping the game freezing bug is gone, because that was what was stopping me from finishing SH3 properly.

Hmm, guess the frame rate cap at 30fps is very selective (or screwy). The intro in the public washroom for example indoors is clearly capped while parts of the apartments (and SH3) are still uncapped, hitting 60fps. But the outdoors are 30fps most of the time, though I should check Born from a Wish since that one had consistent, stutter free 60fps without the patch too.

5.1 mix is still the same so bass can be overbearing in some tracks, namely in the hospital. I'll have to check out more tracks to judge it better.

Seriously. What. The. Fuck. 2 and a half months and they can't properly patch the game killing Silent Hill 3 bug. Really?

I actually can't get past the motel. I leave after talking to Vincent, go out on the street. Bam. Game freezes. It even just froze at random in the hospital when I was trying to get to the usual freezing point

I finished the game once. But I just won't ever be able to again without starting a new game I think.

What a pile of shit.

Do any of these fixes pertain to the 360 version? I really want these two games on current consoles, was hoping an eventual patch would allow me to obtain them without worry. Also does it contain the extra scenario from Restless Dreams?
