Re4 & 5 had human enemies infected and controlled by a parasite. They still functioned like normal humans though. So having them react to gunshots makes sense.

Zombies, Hunters, ooze etc. aren't the same. They're more primitive and not going to cry and fuss when their arm gets shot. The most they would do is flinch, which they do if you hit them hard enough.

With that out of the way, ooze and whatnot "do" actually stun if you shoot each of their hands in succession. Which allows you to melee them.

Yes, I understand and know both of these facts.

Although, the "story" reason for what they are and how they work is not important. The smallest bit of re-imagining of them could change all of that. And, if you'll recall, many of these monsters you've mentioned do in fact cry out and show that they feel pain/stumble (or some semblance of it).

The important thing is, we've gone from having very dynamic enemies, with many ways to interact with them, to ones that are more base, and less interactive.

The way to make a game is not to come up with all of the story and how everything is in the made-up world, the environment, and then build a game which follows all of that. It seems that you'd want an equal marriage of both game design, and thoughtful explanations and story.

I really don't believe just because you can explain away the reason that most of the enemies don't react in Revelations makes it any better just because you give it an excuse.

Also, I would say, in relation to that excuse, many of the Ganados and Majini don't show much more pain than these other creatures do, crying out, etc. The thing that often makes them stumble or stop (even the excecutioner, salvador, etc...) seems to be the kinetic energy that is transferred to them, or that-- simply the mechanics of their limbs are not holding under the strain of trauma, etc.

Well the point I was making was that being still relatively human, they're still prone to pain and nerves etc.

Zombies for example can have an arm blown off and the impact is the only reaction you'll see. They'll still keep coming immediately after the impact moment subsides. A ganado however would react in pain and be briefly stunned from it.

Same with Hunters and Ooze. They're less human and more primitive so they aren't going to react the same as ganados.

That's all I was pointing out.

I do prefer the targeting system myself, but having stuff push towards you unphased by bullets is interesting in its own right sincs majini etc were rarely a threat for me while ooze could be a pain, which is a good thing.

Just as a side note, they shouldn't actually be pushed back by the impact of the gunshot. The equal and opposite reaction is the recoil of firing the gun, not flying back after a gunshot.

The impact of a gunshot would cause a flinch/jerk reaction in anything depending on the amount of power of the impact. A shotgun or explosive blast would obviously cause more of a reaction than a simple handgun bullet would.

A small handgun bullet piercing the chest likely wouldn't cause impact to push anything back since the bullet is small and the impact zone equally small which would focus on pushing through the zone rather than impacting it. Therefore a bullet piercing the center of a man's chest would likely do just that, pierce the chest rather than cause pushback on it.

However, a handgun shot to a hand or outer shoulder or something equally less grounded would likely cause some kind of impact not unlike a high speed object smacking against the hand and causing impact force such as when you take one hand and slap it against the other without consciously stabilizing the other hand first with equal force in the opposite direction.

And many guns have add-ons that help reduce or surpress the recoil a gun emits.

Page 12 of the FBI training manual.
Quote:
A bullet simply cannot knock a man down. If it had the energy to do so, then equal energy would be applied against the shooter and he too would be knocked down. This is simple physics, and has been known for hundreds of years. The amount of energy deposited in the body by a bullet is approximately equivalent to being hit with a baseball. Tissue damage is the only physical link to incapacitation within the desired time frame, i.e., instantaneously.

Well right, it wont knock down a shooter or target but it still causes a involuntary reaction in the impact zone, as well as the wielder of the firearms hands.

I dont know if getting knocked down was the argument.

Yea I wasn't talking about knockdown. If you get hit with a baseball at a fast enough speed it can cause "knockback" depending on the speed and area of impact. Not to be confused with knockdown.

Again, leave your arm hanging without consciously holding it in place. Now smack your hsnd with your other hand. Notice obviously your hand gets pushed back.

Do the same to your head or shoulder. A bullet would have a similiar effect on areas like that which are loose and ungrounded.

Getting hit in the chest wouldn't cause the same knockback because the chest isn't loose like that. Its grounded. A flinch reaction is more likely.
