You see, Capcom is going through an experimental stage at the moment. They're testing the waters.

Why not follow that path and improve on top of it? The game has received very positive reviews and has sold well, which is important to these kind of businesses, isn't it?
The positive reviews aren't near as important to these types than the financial revenue - but it's already been said that the path they've taken with Revelations will be used again in future.

Actually they're just going through a period where they don't know the difference between up and down. Most of their decisions in recent years have been colossal fuck-ups and the backwards attitude exhibited by Kawata is just choking creativity. All of his contributions to the series have been sub-par at best, so I wouldn't take anything he says with any real credibility, especially since he isn't involved in BH6.

Their struggle for existence is over for the time being.

This is not just an end.
This is the end of a beginning.

With News Bot in that one too.

Capcom has had less success than failure in the last decade. Aside from losing a great portion of top talent in the mid 2000 from mismanagement, numerous franchises were sunk into the ground through trying to change them (maximo, bionic commando among many others anyone?) and numerous "new" IPs this gen have frequently failed mostly because, like this CoD stance, have mostly been dervivtive of other company or western successes. Add to this the Mega Man fan debacle Capcom won't listen to a fan base ever again. but then they have lost confidence in making products for the perceived fan base they have to just target ones out there.

Even staff who made RE5 struggled to make that because they did not know how to follow up RE4. And when they accomplished the final product wanted to wash their hands of the franchise because they felt restricted by it. And then you understand how Mikami must have felt, wanting to work on other ideas and yet stuck with the series he started.

Put all that together and I hardly believe they have a clue what to do most of the time. Winging it on gambles which is the real reason for this statement.

Bionic Commando Rearmed was decent though.

Yeah, indeed and look at that. They took an old style, slightly updated it's look, and it was well received. Maybe there is the fact it'd been a long time since the style had been used, but people liked it. The full 3D one though was a dog's breakfast.

When I first read the statement I had questions like "if people didn't want old school Resident Evil then why the hell was Resident Evil 2 and 3 the most requested games to be added to the Euro PSN?" and "why did REDC top the PSN sales charts for so long when it was released in the US years ago?"

Additionally how many people around here and elsewhere have said they'd take a port of the REmake over the Wii Chronicles titles and have it hopefully turn up for 360 and PS3?

I don't think this statement, even if exactly correct for all Capcom's RE products, will be true forever. It probably is correct for now. But eventually what was old will be new again and Capcom will eventually revisit old style scares somehow down the line (BC Rearmed itself is one example, as was the lengthy break before Street Fighter 4... and questionably MvsC3).

Edit - I just wanted to clarify that I may have overstated Capcom's lack of success in the last decade above in some ways. It's still had 20+ million sellers in that time and so forth, and successful franchises (Dead Rising and Monster Hunter have been great new IP's for them in the last decade) but I believe critically it's been more patchy and looking at the fan side of the franchises, general disfavor with Capcom isn't specific to just Resident Evil fans when it comes to Capcom titles.

That's what bothered me about Bionic Commando. After Rearmed, I was hyped for the 3D game and trailers looked promising. Graphics were decent enough, looked like it played well too. The swinging is still a lot of fun though, but the game itself is so shallow. There really isn't much to it. I've actually more fun just idly swinging through the air that I've had actually playing through the game itself.

Took some time to read the comments on that page and boy almost all of them are out for blood for Capcom even thinking about going in the direction of CoD. I hope they acknowledge this backlash and listen for a change and better not tell us to "chill out".

Looks like some people did a complete 180 in this thread from where they were a few weeks ago. Thanks Kawata!

He doesn't even suggest Capcom are going in that direction though! He's quite clear that the numbered games should retain their "Resident Evil-ness" whilst spinoffs can cater for different audiences.

And how is that different from the Resident Evil of the past how many years?

People would do well to remember there was a Resident Evil FPS long before Call Of Duty rolled around.
