Well that is Kotaku's own video, but I was under the impression that Blue Point was doing this too. Nevertheless, I'll let you know how it compares when I get it in two weeks. Ironic though that when all it's said and done, the PS2 original versions (including Restless Dreams) remain the best ones overall.

Then again, I still think that RE4 GC is the best version overall. I think the only HD games that are undoubtedly superior to the originals in EVERY single aspect ICO and SOTC (add GOW Collection II/ 1's cutscenes wreaked for obvious reasons).

I somehow doubt Kotaku could change texture output. The look is unchanged in both original and revoiced modes too. But indeed we will see in a few weeks.

Looked it up. Couldn't remember where I first saw it but here is Tomm Hulett talking about the game last year when the voice cast options happened. Mentions Hijinx.

Quote:
We’re proud to announce that Silent Hill HD Collection will offer an option for original voices in Silent Hill 2.  This means fans and newcomers alike can experience the classic horror tale remastered with modern voice performances; as well as the original recordings from 2001.  Producer Devin Shatsky and I have been striving to make this a reality for some time, and it’s exciting to have created the definitive SH2 experience.  We would like to thank all of the original voice cast as well as Jeremy Blaustein, who were all instrumental in making this happen.  Unfortunately, due to factors both technical and logistical, Silent Hill 3 will be presented with new voices only. Konami and Hijinx are working hard to make Silent Hill HD Collection a valued piece of Silent Hill history, and hope fans new and old look forward to its release in January.

Sincerely,

Tomm Hulett

Yeah currently enjoying the GoW Vol 2 set although I have found Ghost Of Sparta to have some frame issues and screen tearing in places. Nothing game breaking but not great either. Have yet to try the Ico set or MGS though.

Lol, no, I just meant that the capture quality was suspect at best unless they've literally redone textures. The difference there is beyond mere texture filtering.

As far as GoS goes, change the resolution to 720p at the dash. There isn't any slowdown in either mode, it's just judder at 1080p. Either way, it's a huge upgrade to the 30fps of the PSP games. They're still not the best games in the series.. something was lacking.

Looks like it's not Kotaku's capture issues... which I didn't think it was anyway. Thats why I thought it was odd you were still questioning them. Anyway the GameSpot review has a comparison video - comparing the PS2 titles to the HD ones in a basic cross cut form. Numerous ground textures in both SH2 and SH3 are "clean" - it's weird that it's those one specifically though. Background walls, objects, enemies and other ones seem fine, it's just some of the ground ones.

Edit - achievements list for it and downpour are up. Possible spoilers in the downpour list.

I didn't think about popping Ghost down to 720p, but it was mostly an issue with the middle part of the game. I finished both titles 100% now anyway, but if I replay them I'll set that back down. Should I be doing simular with the MGS set which I haven't yet started?

No, the MGS collection is only 720p and has slowdown more than the PS2 originals in some areas. Likewise for Peace Walker. A shame but when you got MGS3 running at 60fps most of the time, you won't mind at all. The revised filters make the game easier on my eyes, literally. My eyes got sore quite a bit with the PS2 version.

My suspicion of the Kotaku footage was because of the blurry subtitle text and something didn't seem right. The gamespot vid is clear cut as you said, though SH2 looks relatively good but it's SH3 that seems to have gone major revisions. It's possible that the gamma settings of the capture is affecting colour saturation but the severely toned down fog is evident.

Despite this, I'm still interested in this collection. It doesn't look bad but it's still disappointing. Glad I got the originals myself but the HD collection's 5.1 mix should be a treat *fingers crossed*. The Xbox version of SH2 was 4.0 and remains the worst version.

Tempted with Downpour though.. been a great while since I played a horror game afterall but I'll check the reviews first.

I'm looking forward to MGS.... probably start on it today.

I don't get the point of making the fog less just because it's on a HD console. The SH2 fog in particular had an artsistic purpose more so than in SH1 which was more technical. I can understand why Ito would complain. The pupose of an HD edition is to be as true to it's original source as possible with the visual fidelity of HD, not to rework the original intended look into a new style. But when they're replacing voice work anyway, well then I guess that point is moot.

I forgot to mention aside from the comparison video there are a few others from select scenes in both SH2 and SH3 in the above review page posted the same day (check "videos" on the left side). So if people want to hear the "change" to Heather and Douglas in SH3, thats where you can. Heather sounds not too different from her original version but Douglas just doesn't sound right - its not gruff enough.

I almost think they should have swapped the new James' voice for Douglas and vice versa and maybe they'd fit both roles better.

Ditto on Downpour though. Waiting for the reviews and so forth.

The few reviews I've head of note the same old survival horror complaints. Clunky combat and so forth so I can't take them seriously to be perfectly honest. I'm going to buy it on blind faith since the more recent gameplay vids don't look bad at all, and the music is definitely good albeit different.

UE3 game I hear, so I think the safest bet would be the 360 game.

We'll see. I figure it depends on dev, but you're right for the norm. 360 version fares better.

April 5th is the confirmed date for here. Both it and Downpour on the same day (and the DMC HD set as well if the current listings are also correct for it).

Getting Downpour Tue. Hearing interesting things, and I'm being generous here, about the HD Collection. Apparently the new music mix is essentially there with the 5.1 option and without it, you got Yamaoka's old mix. Such a peculiar thing.

I wanna get Downpour but I can't afford it right now. So my money I have is going for ORC unfortunately. Would like to get the SH HD collection at some point, though in all honesty, and you guys might think I'm crazy for saying it, but, I would be more interested in it if 4 was included. I really liked 4 even though it was very different than traditional SH. I just loved the storyline, loved the main theme song and really liked Henry.

I would have defintely willing to buy the game if an HD version of 4 had been included.
