Specifically, it takes place on the 10th anniversary of the incident. So sometime in September/October 2008.

Unless they have retconned RE5's place in the timeline back to 2008 (After retconning it before release to 2009), then it's definitely a prequel. I'm sure if we find out when Marhawa Desire is set, it will make more sense.

Not really a prequel, it was a day before the events of RE2 and barely impacted the story of Claire and Leon at all. It just happened at the same time.

How would Leon's and alex's stories affect RE5

Well the world is essentially going to hell it seems from this trailer, Chris already seems to be going up against forces much bigger in scale compared to Kijuju. But he wouldn't have even mentioned it once while with Sheva? He made a deal about mentioning the Kennedy report.

Surely Wesker would have mentioned something regarding his sibling also.

Leon's story is the prequel, it seems to be the big reveal anyway.

Leon's scenario takes place the same time as Chris's.

I would be ok with a prequel. Explains Chris's attitude, an excuse to not use, and probably wont try to top the Wesker end fight. Can easily be explained away that Wesker was being low key till his reveal, which I dont think 6 will top(WeskerJill fight,Jill,ship,satellite missiles,stealth plane, Complete Global Saturation!, volcano fight)










Also I can maybe relax my Chris dying fear(not likely still worried about Revelations)
