Gameplay demanded her to go. The game can't continue unless they're joined at the hip. There was no tension, I knew she wasn't going anywhere.

Does it really matter? She still went didn't she? When Jill jumped off a cliff to help Chris, was that a plot anchor? Because without it, RE5 wouldn't have been possible.

You keep using that term over and over, yet do you know what it means or are you just repeating what I said? It's something that grounds the plot and keeps it from straying too far into anything uncertain. Basically the plot was anchored to co-op, and without a doubt would continue that way for the entire game, eliminating any tension of main characters being eliminated or anything like that. Sheva was that anchor.

In a sense, Jill held the plot down by 'dying' and making Chris set out to find her, so I guess if you stretch it you can call her that as well. The thing is, I didn't like her 'dying' either, that's what got Sheva into this mess in the first place! :lol: Everything about RE5 story-wise was pretty shitty to me.

Well, considering the game was meant to be co-op a few months after information was released on it, the story probably made the necessary changes in order to fit properly. Whether or not Sheva was a plot anchor is a bit irrelevant at least to me. Because had it been someone else (like Barry or Jill), you and a lot of other people wouldn't be up in arms about it. Even if they were plot anchors, I'm assuming most wouldn't have minded nearly as much so long as it was one of the original characters. Because it is a new character, and because the game didn't turn out the way people expect, everyone is getting bent out of shape. People are being incredibly biased against Sheva. That's the main point here.

And considering RE has never really strayed into uncertain territory nor has it had amazing story driven games, RE5 is more or less just following the trend.

Again you're holding something EVERY char is guilty of, not just sheva. Did you ever see Chris, Jill, Leon or Claire die (Well ok REALLY die? Jill's death was advertised before the game even came out. So NO ONE actually expected her to be truly dead since they wouldn't reveal such a spoiler like that and put an 'off-screen' death like that if they intended to keep her dead)? Did you ever once actually believe they would die?

So why exactly do you hold it against sheva for being 'written' for the plot the SAME WAY all the other chars were 'written for the plot'?

I don't understand how you can't see how overtly biased you're being. As obzen pointed out, you moaned about Sheva's characterization being in a file and not in game, but, then go on to defend Chris by stating just that about him, that the file shows him off as a very developed char even if it's not shown in game (which is not true btw).

You seem to just have a personal grudge against Sheva and are telling yourself excuses to fuel it to ensure you don't even attempt to give her a chance. Because again, half the stuff you've complained about Sheva for, other chars in the series which you seem to have no problem with at all, are just as guilty of.

@Obzen

I find it funny you rant on Jill being a generic female who's strong and able to take care of herself as a bad thing, while praising Claire and noting that her 'not' having any formal training makes her more interesting and 'above' that cliche. When in fact, it actually makes her MORE of the cliche than Jill.

Jill at least has a 'reason' to be able to do the things she can do. Claire being naturally proficient with a Gun, agility, fighting, and survival with zero formal training makes her far more of a cliche than Jill ever could be.

Don't get me wrong, i love Claire, and like her more than Jill in many respects, but, that statement is completely out of whack.

Well, I never really said she was above any kind of cliche. I did say there was no such thing as a good character in RE. Claire is the best we have, but that isn't saying much. I just said she is the most interesting. That's mainly because she seems the most human to me. Her actions in RE2 and RECVX felt somewhat realistic (minus the CVX intro). I mean, I've had actual formal military training. So me being able to handle myself under dire situations holds less weight than if an average civilian is able to survive the same thing. That's how I see it.

And by the way, in Darkside Chronicles, Claire says something along the "I never thought any of this stuff my brother taught me would come in handy." So she has some knowledge I'd say.

^That's besides the point though. I was referring solely to your comment about Jill being a cliche for being a strong woman able to take care of herself, while praising Claire for being 'better' than that for lacking formal training. When in fact that makes her more of a cliche than Jill. Jill is believable to be able to do the things she can do 'because' of her formal training. Claire doing them is 'more' cliche because the game just tells you she's 'naturally' that good at everything on her first tries.

Claire's personality etc. have no place as a counter since they weren't the subject of discussion. Not to mention it goes without saying the majority of what you posted was nothing more than subjective opinion, not actual fact.
