I've always been a fan of western illustration and story telling, though feel it's at an all time high as of late. Some great unique stuff out there, I'd love to share some of what I'm reading and hear about other series of potential interest.

Some of my favorites and current reads:

The Walking Dead

Image

Goes without saying, all time favorite right here. Up to issue 108 and pure quality through out. For those who somehow are still in the dark, it's a much more personal story than the typical zombie related material out there. By far my favorite horror themed story of any medium, period.

Y: The Last Man

Image

The series is about the only man to survive the apparent simultaneous death of every male mammal (barring the same man's pet monkey) on Earth. Wildly unique take on a post apocalyptic story.

Revival

Image

Ripped description: For one day in rural central Wisconsin, the dead came back to life. Now it's up to Officer Dana Cypress to deal with the media scrutiny, religious zealots, and government quarantine that has come with them. In a town where the living have to learn to deal with those who are supposed to be dead, Officer Cypress must solve a brutal murder, and everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect. A beautiful "farm noir" that puts a new twist on the zombie genre, created by NYT Bestselling author TIM SEELEY and acclaimed artist MIKE NORTON.

I'm very pleased with this one. Great storytelling with a very involved plot.

Saga

Image

Ripped description: Saga depicts two lovers from long-warring extraterrestrial races, Alana and Marko, fleeing authorities from both sides of a galactic war as they struggle to care for their newborn daughter, Hazel, who occasionally narrates the series.

Like nothing you've ever seen or read before, seriously. Must read if not for the already well written and off the wall story, for the amazing art direction alone.

A few favourites. I don't really buy that many any more but I liked to pick up the trade paperbacks rather than buy comics one issue at a time.

I am probably going to re-read the BPRD stuff again next though

Not many people still read graphic novels I suppose, wasn't expecting too much to begin with. It'll get the eventual necro bump though as always, you'll see.

I do read graphic novels but mostly X-men/Marvel stuff or like Buffy Season 8/Angel Season 6 stuff. Haven't ventured too far beyond those and even those I haven't steadily kept up with.

Comics being an on-going endeavor for numerous years becomes quite a costly hobby to partake in. And it's not one I can truly dedicate more funds to, so.

Am back in the mood for comic books recently - well, on the iOS apps at least.

Finally got round to reading Civil War last week which was a lot of fun - Marvel Universe v The Punisher was ok but nothing like as good as I expected. But I seem to have high expectations of comic books which is maybe putting me off a little. Civil War for instance - "Oh wow there's a spy on the other side? This'll be a great storyli...oh, it's over". Would've loved to have seen something like that explorer a bit more thoroughly.

Got World War Hulk next to read.

After the car payment I'm going to get back into some stuff. Catch up on my Justice League and Batman issues and going to try and grab Frank Millers Dark Knight Returns and Batman Long Halloween. I forget what the name of the comic is but Kirkman had done another title aside from Walking Dead that is supposed to be pretty good. I've been listening to a great podcast lately called Major Spoilers, if you guys like comics, pop culture or whatever you should check it out. The reviews are awesome and in depth and the show is hilarious.

Do yourselves a favor and read Y: The Last Man, I promise you won't be disappointed. Especially you Stu, you're all caught up with TWD for the most part and it's similar in ways, so...

I have the Invincible Iron Man series. Writen after the Civil War and during the Dark Reign saga. I have to say, Iron Man vs Stane(Son, not daddy), is great, but the second part is really great. Norman is just a dick and asshole to Stark. Plus I read the Infection crossover event by IDW. It had Star Trek, G.I. Joe, Ghostbuster and a whole bunch of others. They all had to deal with a zombie virus that attacks each of the comics differently. Star Trek and Ghostbusters were the best comics.

My very first comic :) and most cherished

Supergirl  Michael Turner

Hush

One of the greatest comic story line IMO.

Civil War

Team Captain America

Old Man Logan

A really sad but amazing comic. Interesting to see what happens to everyone in this comic pertaining to why Logan is no longer fighting, pretty morbid, lol.

Lastly...

Death Of The Family

Kept me on my toes...
