For me, without a doubt the most overrated horror movie is...

I found The Amityville Horror to be very boring and also I really didn't care much of the ending either, but when I talk to people about horror movies they always bring this movie up.

What movie, in your opinion, is the most overrated horror movie?

The SAW movies are overrated, IMO. I don't know how many movies in that series exist anymore, as Hollywood wouldn't stop making sequels.

Blair Witch Project I just did not and could not get it.I found it drawn out and tedious with hardly any plot and what plot it had I lost the rest of it.

Nightmare on Elm Street series. Good the first couple times, but gods be damned, he really has to keep coming back after he apparently died?

Currently, Paranormal Activity and Insidious.

Despite near everyone claiming how omeg scary they were, I saw both and pretty much was bored to death through PA while I wanted to crack up laughing through Insidious. The people actually getting scared in the theatre during Insidious just made me laugh even more.

Well, I would like to formally apologize for everyone in the world that was scared by either of those films. We are all sorry that you are so steely nerved that nothing can shake you and the rest of us do have moments where films can scare us. We bow down to your iron fisted resolve in not being scared...protect us?

Sure those movies aren't over the top, shit your pants scary through and through. But, there are a few moments in both of them that I did jump and wonder WTF!!!

One that would come to mind for me is 'The Descent'. It was okay, but I don't see how it's in any way, shape or form 'revolutionary' for the horror genre. It isn't the first time that a horror film has had an all specific gender cast, and it won't be the last.

Agreed, it's one of the rare cases where I prefer the remake.

To be fair Jason came back from the dead more than Freddy, and even had two 'final' sequels.

To it bluntly the Resident Evil series they're taking to much of the game and using it like everybody knows whats going on in the movie. I find it annoying!!! Its getting old.

I think The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is overrated. The original has hardly any gore and it's actually tame compared to other films around in the 70s, yet they banned it anyway. Its sequels are way more gory.
