So the Spanish Website Marcaplayer.com (this links to the article which is in Spanish, so you may need something to translate it with) had the opportunity to have an interview with Masashita Kawata, the producer of Resident Evil about the upcoming game Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, which is being developed by Slant Six. MarkaPlayer also asked about the expected development of Resident Evil 6, which Masashita Kawata replied "the series will undergo a complete renovation to the next installment, at all levels. But we must not forget that thanks to the latest titles in the same we have seen a gigantic universe of possibilities for Resident Evil. I can not say if it will work on a survival horror game or a shooter, but it will be something completely new".

So what do you think guys?

As long as it isn't a FPS, I will still play it. I'm looking foreward to finding out new information about it.

^ This, anything but an FPS. God forbid such a transition. I don't know how much different they can make it. There are only so many genres and styles they can imitate as I doubt it will be anything innovative.

Biohazard was always different, that's what made it so great. It was a unique game like no other. If it was the 90's, this statement would excite me. However now when someone refers to the next Biohazard as being different, it usually means a different step for the series, aka making it more generic and copying what is already out there; more or less NOT different. We'll see where they go with it, but I still say they should look at Rebirth for inspiration.

What annoys me is the idea the Capcom might think the RE4/RE5 formula is stale after Takeuchi's lacklustre offering. The engine is a fucking dream, and given the right team behind would be perfectly suitable for another game in the series (aside from Revelations).

Is the smart money on Resident Evil 6 coming out on the next generation of consoles?

By the sounds of this.. it might turn out into a top-down yet somehow at the same time FPS with robots and nanomachines.

Anyway.. I just hope some new kind of BOW's show up together with a new kind of zombifying/mutating virus. I'm happy as long RE4/5 like enemies are removed from the series. Have characters with charisma, enemies who are a worthy foe, make them be fearsome! grotesk monsters who somehow make you feel like 'It could be real' mutated fleshy unforgettable creatures is what is needed to return in order to make it a true RE title.

As mentioned, 'New' and 'Different' for RE simply means just that, for RE, not for gaming in general. To them, making an RE super mario bros type game would be 'new' and 'different'.

And I agree that the RE4/5 engine has a lot of life left in it. They changed and upgraded the engine a lot from RE4 to RE5. There's still a lot left they could do with it. They just need to focus on what makes the series itself work and not try to simply clone a previous best seller like RE5 did. RE5 was a beautiful and wonderful game but lost so much simply because it tried to be a clone of RE4's success rather than it's own unique kind of game.

If they can learn from that and make RE6 it's own, unique game while understanding and keeping the core elements of the series, it could be wonderful.

Well I'm quite sure RE will remain as Action Horror which may disappoint some people, but that's just the way RE is to remain...

Im hoping for a complete reboot for RE6. Im Ok with the over-the-shoulder perspective,, it can give you a scare more than a 3rd person can,, if capcom just gave more effort to scare the gamers in RE5 and to live up to its specialty,"survival horror",, then the RE games to come would be awesome,, simply awesome
