The developers of the Dino Crisis port for Dreamcast were extremely lazy. Ports like Resident Evil 3 Nemesis benefit from VGA and VMU support. While Dino Crisis' VMU support is welcome (finally a health bar + ammo) VGA was not included, perhaps the most easy thing to impliment. The game actually runs beautifully in VGA too, you just need to force the signal through a boot disc. So why wasn't it included? Because the cut scenes weren't recoded to support the signal, perhaps the easiest job possible. Less than a days work in the studio, it could have been done before lunch.

The work around:

If you have a decent VGA box, hook up composite cables as well as a VGA cable. Dual input from the box is supported, so switch to the composite inpute during cut scenes.

If you have a VGA box that doesn't support this there is no way to watch the FMV scenes, but the rest of the game runs just fine in VGA mode. Is it worth the trouble? You decide, but I say yes. Better input timing and visuals that eclipse composite. Take a peek for yourself:

Very nice. I`ve always apprciated the games with VGA support on Dreamcast. It`s a shame its not standard with DC. I`d do this work around, but dont have the box and wanna play it on PSP next time around.
Would have been nice if this game was also ported to the Cube.

We picked up an old CRT TV this week for £25 ($40) and Dino Crisis is looking pretty good on that...but i'm really wanting to try it through VGA having seen these differences!

Also hooking up the Saturn so i can FINALLY play Deep Fear too!!
