Having completed a second playthrough last night I still can't work out the whole Valkoinnen Mokki scenario. O'Brian says the whole thing was staged, Quint says the whole thing was staged and Veltro were not involved and yet there they are. Were they mercs employed by Vester to play the part of Veltro?

Also, the flight plan says the plane was heading for Valkoinnen Mokki and yet the security footage shows the plane taking off from Valkoinnen Mokki. And again, if the Veltro men stationed there were fake, then who put the wolves on the plane?

I'm assuming Lansdale got hold of the Abyss Virus through his contacts at the National Animal Protection Committee?

Two planes, one is already at the airport when Chris and Jessica see the Veltro crest and contact O'Brian. That's the one that gets attacked by the Farfarellos.

No, because Quint says the time stamp of the crash on the cameras coincides with the one that Chris reported.

I don't get why it winds you up so much, its a perfectly plausible theory. Games such as Second Sight on the gamecube have used this technique effectively in the past.

No, you're misunderstanding, I'm not questioning whether it happened or not. I'm saying it's just absolutely friggin' stupid.

Saying something happened just to trick the audience only to make it NOT actually have happened and was purely a marketing tool to convince you of a plotline the 'wanted' you to believe without actually bothering to make it justified and valid in game is lazy writing.

It's as bad again as advertising Neve Campbell flat out as the ghostface killer in the next Scream Movie, showing a trailer with her revealing herself as the ghostface killer and stabbing Gale Weathers to death. Then the movie comes out and that never actually happens and the explanation is "well we just wanted to throw the audience off".

It's just pathetic and stupid and lazy. All it does it tell me you're too inept at writing to actually be able to write red herrings properly, so you just flat out lie instead because it's simpler and easier.

That's why it bothers me so much because it's just lazy.

Yeah, but take a look at the geography. The airport is nowhere close to where the other plane crashes, and the other plane comes from a completely different direction and altitude (and from a different airport). The plane attacked by the Farfarellos also begins to explode before even taking off, while the one attacked by escaped Fenrirs has clearly been flying for quite a while. The time stamp is similar because Chris and Jessica's chapter only takes about 10 minutes and I'm pretty sure the time on the video is different from the chapter time displayed at the beginning anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if it was a made up line anyway given that the translators made up quite a few as it is. The second plane is seen when they look at the airport through binoculars.

But its not the same at all is it? That scenario you mention with Scream would be pointless and stupid. The difference here is that it ties in with the biggest sub-plot of the game which is that Veltro never returned. It was an elaborate hoax set up by O'Brian and Raymond to fool the other characters in the game. They want Chris, Jill, Morgan etc to believe that Veltro are back alive and well and have been running round doing all these things when in fact they never did anything at all. Capcom have done the same here with this trailer to fool the audience by implying Veltro have hijacked the ship and injected all the crew with the virus, which again never happened. Its all done to maximise the big plot twist at the heart of the game. They are not lying just for the sake of it like you seem to think they are. Its not lazy either because it has been very purposefully done.

How would you write a red herring for a trailer for a game to try and make the main plot twist more effective without giving the actual real details away ? You show me how you could do better without it being 'absolutely frigging stupid'.

Hmm, I still don't think so. After all we have a file at Valkoinnen Mokki which details the cargo of the plane and implies it took off from there. We also have the data key for the terminal on that particular plane which Quint finds at Valkoinnen Mokki and when the FBC firebomb the base you can still see the second plane on the runway.

Which file at Valkoinnen? And odd about the second plane still being there, didn't catch that.

Genuine series plot hole?

Would have been nice to know how Spencer's location was figured out. Would have definitely been a better bridge to Lost in Nightmares than just jumping straight to the front of Spencer's European estate. Seems the events of 2005 have really no connection with the major events. Just biohazard incidents that so happened to occur on that year that involved the core four.

It is quite astonishing that Revelations had perhaps the lowest body count in the entire series. I can't help but feel that Parker, Keith, Quint and even Raymond should have died.

I actually prefer Capcom making some games that are really stand-alone set pieces. The RE main storyline is so twisted and convoluted in places, I almost feel like each new successive game has to bend over backwards to fit in, or because it needs to provide the diehard fans some sort of extra layer of depth to a story that's been jalopied together since Wesker was retconned back into existence in Code Veronica.

Besides, the same could be said for RE4.
