In my opinion the trailer was just clever misdirection. The crew of the ship were all dead, had been for a long time, hence the ghost ship.
If there were survivors, having been back stabbed by Morgan I'm sure they would have tried to escape and expose him rather than just stay on board. The controls and navigation of the ship were still working up until the incident after all.

All the trailer implies is that Veltro have seized the ship and infected everyone, which is what we were all supposed to think going into the game. The same with Raymond talking to 'Chris' at the very end. He would also have no real reason to speak the 'Abandon all hope' line.

Its the same in another trailer as it shows masked Raymond infecting the fish and making the threat whereas in the final game it is changed to Norman.

As for Jessica's report, it really is just a harmless interview, nothing sinister. Jessica asks for time off which is granted if she gets her report in on time and the GPC interviewer talks about how grateful they all are to Chris for all his work in various incidents etc.

That said, can we please ban the word "canon"? It turns everyone into patronizing...people.

"Related/Unrelated to the main series" doesn't quite roll off the tongue. Like it or not, there is a "canon", although I don't think the Japanese developers have ever actually used that term.

Jessica is not an agent of the Global Pharmaceutical Consortium. In the report, she's speaking from her perspective as a BSAA agent. The GPC are interviewing her because they happen to be the organization which founded and funded the BSAA. I had my doubts that they would spoil the entire game in a DVD that came with it, very glad to see they didn't. She's working for someone else overall since she lies about her involvement with Raymond Vester (who the GPC thinks is just an FBC agent, which may or may not be true).

The GPC was genuinely interested in researching viruses beneficially... somehow. If Ada is indeed a member, this would fit with their whole "we need the dominant species Plaga to research" thing.

Yeah but you can see one of the researchers moving and going like 'ug...' helplessly as he's infected. If they were already dead, they wouldn't be doing that.

As far as talking to chris goes, there's nothing implausible about it. Yes, it's misdirection to the audience, but, still believable outside of that purpose. Plenty of people talk to themselves in prep for things to come. It happens all the time. He's alone on the ship and just finished prepping he dummy and puts his hand on it's shoulder and talks to himself, acknowledging the 'trap' to himself.

As far as veltro infecting fish and it being changed to norman later, that wasn't in this trailer so it's of no consequence. I'm only talking about the rachel trailer which clearly shows Raymond infecting the researchers.

You miss my point. I was implying that none of that stuff happened. Raymond never infected anyone and there was no one left alive to infect. It was just to throw the audience off guard. In reality, the crew of the Zenobia were long gone. Most died in 2004 and the survivors were killed in 2005 when the vaccine data was sent back to Morgan. The Ooze had been prowling the ship for weeks.

That scene was done to make people believe Veltro had hijacked the ship and infected all the crew, which is an attempt to make the game's big plot twist all the more surprising.

Supplemental material (which would have to be on par with INSIDE OF BIOHAZARD THE DARKSIDE CHRONICLES at this rate) might provide some exposition and explanation but really, that would require a shitload of hope.

Here's another shocking twist: what if Jessica shot Raymond, and he fell on his head and killed himself?!

I'm more curious as to why no one in the history of this series ever checks for a pulse?
