He didn't write the October 6 entry. An Umbrella B.O.W. Development Staff wrote it.

You know, in the abscence of means to previously know this, I was taking the file as true. And it did me no harm to do so, as to very many people that played Survivor and read it.

Besides, Archives states that Nicholai gets out the city via helicopter, leaving Jill and Carlos to be killed by the sterilization operation. A dead can't handle a helicopter.

No harm except being wrong. :P The Archives story sections also say at the very end that the events are different depending on the player's actions, so again, his death is still ambiguous.

Besides, I already gave the reason why he survived. He was the last Monitor, and only person able to get the data back to Umbrella that allowed them to develop some of the B.O.W.s seen in CODE:Veronica such as the Gulp Worm and Black Widow. Outside of this, there is no definitive on his survival.

I'm pretty aware of your focus on original - japanese - source, but this isn't avaliable for most of the players. Still, I can see no harm in the Survivor file. The particularities of the file's content doesn't fit to me like was written by an "Umbrella B.O.W. Development Staff". Unless this person was in Raccoon.

Your point about the data can pretty well make the survival of Nicholai obvious through another Survivor file; that file with instructions of how to deal with B.O.W.s seen in Raccoon City, don't you agree?

The American versions of the games are mostly wrong about a lot of things. By extension, using them as the basis for the story makes the person wrong, and is the reason why the series has such a bad reputation on its plot. It's not that the story was written badly, just that a lot of things are messed up by careless translators.

And yes, the first two entries are written by Nicholai, the last one is not.

I don't know if I blame the japanese writers for not making Nicholai write the three entries, or the english translators, for changing the third author to Nicholai as well (maybe they just thought "what the hell??" by seeing the japanese file, and "tried to correct that". ).

I will never forgive them for pointlessly adding in that Wesker injected himself with the t-virus in his file in BHDC, even though there is no mention of it in general in the original Japanese text.
