If they are, it wont be ORC 2. But something else. It's still under Capcom's expectations.

Worldwide sales are around 1.3 million, so it's still just around 60ish% of what Capcom set as a targets for it of 2 million, already downgraded from 2.5 million. It's not going to get much better (I expect just like Europe and the US a steep drop off in Japan) and I figure may peak out at around 1.5 million max. Given those sorts of overall sales given the expectation I can't see Capcom following this up with anything.

To top it off as far as a modern action title goes on both 360 and PS3, thats still a piss poor effort overall. The franchises Capcom want to compete against with this sort of thing will make these sorts of sales in their first few hours :p

Relevaltions total sales may have been surpassed, but the point was the context of the platform and Capcom's expectations which it met. Thats why another 3DS title is very likely. Another ORC experiment is not.

Another experiment in something else entirely however for the franchise... well... anything's possible.

I would like to see a spin off that isn't action oriented, like outbreak, with static camera angles and zombies, maybe outbreak 3 in Tall oaks? They did say only 90 or so % of the population was infected

Biohazard is a big hit in Japan and there are people who would buy anything with the name attached to it. The Japanese already have an understanding in Chris's partner, Piers while English-speaking players won't know who he is until RE6. Can't really tell if they're going to be sorely disappointed.

If there is an Operation Rockfort Island, I can imagine the players playing as HCF and engaging in a gunfight with Alfred's soldiers and with Wesker barking out orders. No doubt Claire, Steve and Chris would be shoehorned in for stupid reasons.

Well, I've already tweeted at cvxfreak about this, but it surprises me that this game has been so successful in Japan, considering it's got just about one outlet in that country, was developed in the west, is not a very good game (whatever the reasons may be, I'm willing to accept that with a major rethink of damage, online connectivity, etc that it could be passable) and it had poor reviews in America to begin with.
Yeah, who knows, but I hope Capcom doesn't take this as a sign that it's a good idea to outsource more games in situations like this. It seems like that could easily dilute the series.

This once again confirms people will buy anything with the Resident Evil brand slapped on it. ORC and the Anderson movies are clear examples. *sigh*

According to the recent Capcom IR reports, ORC has already reached 1.7 million units (these numbers do not include the 270K Japanese copies): FY2012 Press Release, Platinum Titles

There are people who think that Revelations completely voids the idea that the brand sells. Despite the fact that the 3DS userbase has a very small percentage of Biohazard fans.

@ Mr Rod. Yeah I saw that. I'm generally okay with Capcom's numbers normally but given the four week drop off on both the UK and US charts for both console versions, I'd love to know where exactly 500,000+ sales managed to magically appear from.

I don't think the rest of Europe and Australia/NZ would have magically managed those sales, no other game seems to benefit from that sort of numbers (unless it's a worldwide multimillion franchise like a Call of Duty or something).

To top it off Capcom says this is FY2011 ending March 31st... so is this number on the Platinum chart fromt hat? Then they're saying somehow it magically sold 1.7 million copies in 10 days in the US (and 7-8 in the UK). I'm calling "bullllshit!" on that one if thats the case. Doesn't follow even the first week numbers in the US and UK either.

Edit - I've been informed that the Capcom total of 1.7 million is what they sold in units to retailers at their cost price. Well thats nice isn't it, once we add on the Japanese sales it'll pass the (pointless figure of) 2 million then. Even though the drop off in the US and UK tells me a clearer picture that the game _actually_ hasn't sold anywhere that well.

I don't think I'll ever trust Capcom's numbers again.

Oh Mr. Rod, I hear you. I am almost one of those people.

I will buy almost anything with Resident Evil on it... just not those movies... and just not light gun games...

It's interesting as a fan though, because I heard ORC was bad, I had my own doubts, but you can believe I pre-ordered it, picked it up day one and played it. I came to the same conclusion as a lot of other people, it wasn't very good, and I still kept it, because I feel like I might suffer through it in the future for the sake of DLC and possibly seeing my favorite characters portrayed (poorly) again.
The whole time though, I was thinking to myself, am I sending the wrong message with my purchase? I am only buying this because it is Resident Evil, but I really don't want to encourage them to make more games like this...

I guess I lied with my money

Well, you should, actually. The game will eventually sell all copies shipped after however many months/years through discounts, other promotions and natural sales lifespan. But the numbers alone don't provide all the context necessary -- we don't know if the game only finally sold out after being marked down to $5 from the original $60 and so forth. Not to mention Capcom not including stuff like Gold Edition in the original RE5 total, so RE5 should be higher than it actually is right now, etc.

It's one barometer to measuring a game's success -- we need the NPD/Famitsu/Chart Track/Retailer Reports to contextualize the rest.
