I had 4.2 as well and had no problems moving up. 4.2 is actually weird in that even the official Nintendo update can brick Wii systems.

Soft modded my Wii a long time ago. The benefits are totally worth the 10 minutes it took. Especially if you're a fan of Brawl. Hell, even if you aren't a fan of Brawl, you'll love some of the stuff that's been done to it. We're getting closer and closer to custom characters, with moveset editors and animation editors already out. There's still a lot of kinks to work around, though.

I fooled around with the modding stuff on the Wii awhile back but I kept running into the Wii's equivalent of a Blue Screen of Death. Oh and Dead Space came out so I jumped ship. There's really not much of a reason for me to go back since I don't use it much and there's so very few games on the Wii I want to play. The ones I do want to play are worth the money. To each his own I guess.

Nobody likes these regional restrictions. But I don't think there's a whole lot you can do about it. I remember a time when your TV had to have the right connections for NTSC before they started putting up the block. Such a pain.
